My view is that the other columns do not make sense to have such values as last success, last failure, last duration as - in the general case - you cannot guarantee that they reflect the same job. My view is thus that the correct thing to do for those columns is report as N/A. While it is certainly possible to change the plugin to render a value for these columns, you should be aware that such a change can significantly affect performance, as with nested folders you would effectively end up querying the entire tree for every page rendering (or else you would be caching the result and displaying potentially out of date values or causing high CPU/disk load)... once again the venerable Señor Beck and his folders of folders of folders full of 7000+ jobs will find the performance problem for you... so if you are suggesting a patch in this regard, I strongly recommend testing said patch for performance regressions with a master that has multiple folders with 1,000's of jobs each with at least 10 builds and a random mix of success/failure... oh and don't cheat by using an SSD... use spinning metal as it helps find the performance issues better This message is automatically generated by JIRA. If you know of a process that can guarantee the same level of effective clean with the same cost/benefit ratio (i.e. 100% guaranteed bug free cleaning and zero work in maintaining it) then I would be interested to know what that is. We do use a branch parameter in the client build spec. But unless you also use a different workspace root then any unused branches in the client spec are removed by Perforce. Have you found a way around that? That would be really useful to know. The branches we want to build change frequently. If we had to set up new jobs all the time it would be a constant maintenance headache. Using a build parameter means fewer jobs and lower maintenance / fewer mistakes. The jobs are run in parallel, as I said in my original post - and because they are effectively the same job we can use the "throttle concurrent builds" plug-in to control the resource usage. We can see which branches are running as we have overridden the default naming convention (as Jenkins allows) so you can see what the important parameters are for each job that is executing. I don't mean to be argumentative for the sake of it, but the bottom line is we now have a solution that works perfectly for our needs. If these are your requirements, then yes, you are stuck using a full clean, but I still maintain that it's bad practice to rely on that. Your scripts/project files should all be cleaning up things properly, volatile or not. If you don't want the old branches removed, then just put them all in your client spec and only build the branch you want. If you are worried about the additional sync time, then put the branch parameter in the View Mask, and select Use View Mask for Syncing. "If we had to set up new jobs all the time it would be a constant maintenance headache." - I'd recommend using templates. I've currently got a system which reads a list of branches from source control, and automatically creates/updates the necessary jobs from a template. It's a heck of a lot more organized than cramming multiple branches into a single job. The only issue I see with your solution is if you are using the same client for all branches. This is extremely bad practice, and frequently causes issues. So if you aren't already, I'd recommend adding your branch parameter to your client workspace name to avoid these issues. They are fine for devs to rely on locally, but I wouldn't be happy to solely rely on them for important client builds and not for an overnight clean where we want to ensure everything is reset. The branch name variable is already part of the client name which Jenkins creates so client workspaces are unique per branch. I agree, it would be bad practice to do otherwise. We are happy with the solution we have at the moment. It is very flexible with branches, reliable and very little work to maintain.
