Why should we constrain ourselves to lowercase?

We've had uppercase library names for over 12 years (starting with Qt 4.0). 
And that's not including libX11, libGL, libGLES, libGLU, libICE, libSM...

I've been using the modesetting driver for over a year and a half now
- on Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge, Broadwell and now Kaby Lake hardware.
I've *never* come across a bug all this while (in fact, I was forced
to switch due to GPU lockups on Sandy Bridge with xf86-video-intel).

I haven't had a perceptible difference in performance, everything is
tear-free by default (I had to tinker with xorg.conf to enable
sync-to-vblank with SNA on the Intel DDX) - overall a much smoother
out of the box experience with the modesetting driver than the intel
one.

My 2c, experience on Arch Linux.

* The "include_guard()" command was introduced to allow guarding

* "FindMPI" received a major overhaul. It now features language specific
  components, better Fortran support, and support for statically linked
  MPI implementations.

* A "FindOpenACC" module was added to detect compiler support for
  OpenACC.  Currently only supports PGI, GNU and Cray compilers.

* The "FindOpenGL" module underwent numerous improvements. It has gained
  support for GLVND and EGL on Linux. It now has import targets that
  separate the OpenGL library and OpenGL contexts.

* The "GoogleTest" module gained a new command
  "gtest_discover_tests()" implementing dynamic (build-time) test
  discovery.

* When using "AUTOMOC" or "AUTOUIC", source files that are
  "GENERATED" will be processed as well. They were ignored by
  "AUTOMOC" and "AUTOUIC" in earlier releases. See policy "CMP0071".

* A "CTEST_LABELS_FOR_SUBPROJECTS" CTest module variable and CTest
  script variable were added to specify a list of labels that should
  be treated as subprojects by CDash. To use this value in both the
  CTest module and the ctest command line Dashboard Client mode (e.g.
  "ctest -S") set it in the "CTestConfig.cmake" config file.

* CPack gained a "FREEBSD" generator for FreeBSD "pkg(8)",
  configured by the "CPackFreeBSD" module.

* The CPack "DEB" generator, configured by the "CPackDeb" module,
  was enabled on Windows.  While not fully featured (due to the lack
  of external UNIX tools) this will allow building basic cross-
  platform Debian packages.

* The "cmake(1)" "-E" mode gained support for "sha1sum",
  "sha224sum", "sha256sum", "sha384sum", and "sha512sum".

* The "file(GENERATE)" command now interprets relative paths given
  to its "OUTPUT" and "INPUT" arguments with respect to the caller's
  current binary and source directories, respectively. See policy
  "CMP0070".

  understood and preserved in the output.

  CMake scripts from being included more than once. The command

Fair enough. I wasn't aware of the DBus restriction. I suggest to add it to the 
protocol definition. E.g. in Wayland protocols we find: "The string must be 
encoded in UTF-8. " So I suggest to do something similar, just to be sure.

I'm also fine with either, kwayland has a bit of both. This mostly copies the 
ServerSideDecoration style.

My rationale was that this isn't double-buffered against the surface commits, 
so didn't proxy it, but I don't mind either way.

REVISION SUMMARY
  This patch aims to address an issue with KUrlNavigator using relative paths. 
Upon attempting to navigate using relative paths, due to the way 
`QUrl::fromUserInput` works, a relative symbol such as 'Documents' will be 
converted to `http://Documents` or `.config` will be converted to an empty 
QUrl. This patch uses the `AssumeLocalFile` flag along with the home directory 
as the relative link (which is where the suggestions are taken from), alongside 
that it adds two test cases to account for this behaviour. The suggestions 
would perhaps be more intuitive if they were from the current directory but I 
assume that's an issue to be discussed in another patch.
  
  All tests currently pass, but someone with more knowledge of this should 
check if this patch potentially breaks something with `KUriFilter::filterUri`.

TEST PLAN
  Open an application where KUrlNavigator is used. Eg.: Dolphin, Gwenview
  
  - Select the KUrlNavigator and clear the text
  - Type something with dot or a character that would otherwise show suggestions
  - Highlight one of the suggestions and activate it via enter
  
  Expected: The selected directory should be browsed
  Actual: Dolphin will show invalid protocol error for dotfiles or otherwise 
launch browser. Gwenview fails silently.

Same here, happy to finally see someone with correlated experience. I 
never
got any useful hints in the log files, so was close to consider my 
hardware
broken. Strange enough all freezes seemed to happen while moving the 
mouse

though, which kept the hope alive it was something software-related.

Curious to see if my daily freeze will now be a thing of the past now 
that I

changed the driver. Though I am on a 2nd gen 915 device, while all the
modesettings driver talk I came across on a quick search seemed to be 
only
about gen4 and later? No issues seen for one hour so far, hope grows 
:)

Another approach seems to be to uninstall xf86-video-intel, that way 
the

seemingly hardcoded driver-auto-match logic will skip forward to the
modesetting driver:

I've also recently come across this. According to [1] the performance

supposedly much worse. Is this still true for more recent mesa/kernel

You quoted Phoronix. I hope you don't expect Phoronix to be able to get 
proper measurements. That's something Phoronix still hasn't succeeded 
after all those years. Just for fun I clicked that link and the first 
graph shows a benchmark showing a game one running at 22.15, the other 
at 22.13 fps. This difference is kernel sneezing. So much to that. But 
the real issue is that a game running at 22 fps is unplayable. It has 
nothing to do in the benchmark, the setup is broken. This has been the 
issue as long as I followed Phoronix benchmarking. From an academic 
point of view - which you understand as much as I do - it's just all 
extremely horrible.


Don't take any numbers serious. Michael doesn't understand how to do 
benchmarking. He just runs his tools. He doesn't think about what a 
benchmark should show, what he wants to show. And he doesn't interpret 
the numbers. He

To aid with use of our tarballs on Windows and case-insensitive file
systems, releaseme now makes sure [1] that the tarballs it generates
are safe to use in such contexts.

As this is a major problem for pretty much every source tarball as it
prevents people from doing Windows builds and/or unpack on exfat/fat32
this is considered a fatal flaw in the tarball. To that end if you use
releaseme you may want to run tarme now so your next release doesn't
get held up by case-insensitive file conflicts.

REVISION SUMMARY
  At the moment whenever something changed we were emitting colorGroupChanged
  and then every color would recompute. This would end up being emitted
  over 10 times at plasma startup so far.
  This patch makes sure that the property will only be emitted if the color
  group actually changes.

TEST PLAN
  Ran plasma, didn't notice issues.
  I don't see all of the changes on the property anymore
