What I really want to know out there, KR gurus, is how many of your happy marriages ended up in divorce when you had your wife assist you with sticking the wings on these cursed airplanes? KR> Oshkosh- 747 down grade
The Aussie's were flying into Oshkosh on 26th in a 747, well we have been down graded to a 737 due to lack of numbers, but we will still be landing at Whitman Field around 1200-1300 26th July. ( At least they did not cancel the entire trip) Due to the change, we will be spending a night in LA and departing on a US chartered 737 for Oshkosh. I think we have a 180 aeroplane made passengers. Hope to meet up with as many of you as possible in my 3 week stay. I wish to thank Glenda McElwee for all her help in arranging my camping and travel around your great country. Glenda has been fantastic. I still hope to do a bit of flying around some of the states, but will know more as we get closer. Hope to see you then. Hi Joe, I wes told that using 2 old office chairs with the backs removed works well. They are padded and height adjustable. Joe Walburnwrote: = If someone has and EASY way to do it, you can save me a boatload of cash at the lawyer's office.

Jim Hill built two little mini sawhorses to hold up the wing while he installed it. They had a little foam padding around the top cross member, and you could even cut it into an airfoil shape if you were a stickler. One of them needs to be exactly the right height to match the stub wing, the other a few inches taller, corresponding to somewhere near the tip or inboard of there. To get started you just balance a wing on the short one, which will allow you lots of wiggle room to get the bottom bolts in, then put the taller one in place and slide it in until the upper holes line up. I've only put my wings on twice, but I've used this method twice and found it to be pretty easy. I'm sure there are other ways though. I also use a #3 Phillips screwdriver to help line things up first, then wiggle it around until I get a long carriage bolt through the hole, then replace that with the "real" AN bolts. It's not a picnic, but not worthy of a divorce either... Mark Langford n5...@hiwaay.net website www.n56ml.com

Find a friend that you really don't care much about. Actually, what you have read already, is basically the way I have done it, and I have done it a lot of times. The friend can just jiggle the end of the wing a little, and that helps get it in place a little easier. Now, if you want a divorce, hand her the sand paper. Some women are probably better at jiggling than others, but I must say Dan is absolutely right, as my wife's helped me do exactly that several times. That brings up my broken exhaust system (I'm not even sure I've told that story yet)...but she told me yesterday that if I didn't go to the airport and do something about that, I was "cut off". She said it with a smile, but I still dutifully sneaked away from my 13 hour Saturday at work (running VPN and Remote Desktop from home) and removed the exhaust to bring home to weld. She asked me tonight if the airplane was fixed yet, and I said "no, but I went to the airport, removed it, and hope to weld it up tomorrow night". She looked a little skeptical, and I said "the deal was I had to go to the airport and do something about it, and I did". She just smiled. Mark Langford n5...@hiwaay.net website www.n56ml.com

Netters, Sometimes you need to put the wings on and there isn't anyone around to help. I found that it can be done by yourself if you have a shop stool that is spring loaded so when you press the lever it will adjust the height. I took a couple of AM bolts and turned them into bullet shapes. Lay the wing on the ground (on a foam pad) Then lift up the wing and insert the two bullet shaped bolts into the lower wing attach fittings. Lift the wing tip up and place the shop stool under it. Bush the lever that allows the stool to get taller. Go slow and when the upper wing fittings line up Place the other bullet shaped bolts in to align the fittings. Then you can put in the regular bolts in while the bullet bolts keep it in alignment. To remove the wing, just support the wing tip on the stool, loosen the lower bolts and remove the upper bolts. Lower the wing tip onto a foam pad and remove lower bolts and lower that end onto a foam pad. The hard part is picking up the wing and placing it on your wing rack. And by the way, be sure to disconnect the aileron linkage.
