one type of lace or another.
I'll second that, but add another "wrinkle"... :)

I've been on the list almost since its inception (joined in June od
'95; 2 months after it started), and, in that time, I have identified
the lace techniques I'm comfortable with and found one (Milanese) where
I feel I might be better than average. But there's never an end to
learning; even with Milanese, every now and then a discussion "thread"
will pop up which will have a "ply" that's unfamiliar -- and
illuminating.

Due to various factors (people subscribing/unsubscribing; old-timers
"resting" while "newbies" gain confidence, etc), the very same question
can elicit different answers at different times. I've always found
*all* the answers interesting, even in the techniques where I'd thought
I knew it all and I had no questions to ask :)

It's one of the reasons I've always been a bit leery of the idea of
FAQs; while I accept that a lot of people are to shy to "expose"
themselves and ask "stupid questions" in public, to my mind questions
are likely to stir up something new among the answers, as well as
making it quite clear tat there's always more than one answer to any
question (more than one way to skin the cat ). While FAQs tend lo
leave an impression thtat they're *The* answer, chiselled in stone...

Welcome newbies, one and all! There's no proficiency requirement for
membership, just a love of lace in any of its forms. By all means, ask
questions (how else will you learn?) and post opinions and answers when you
have them.

Looking forward to reading the list and learning from all of the very
experienced and incredibly talented folks that I've already seen on here.
I've been looking at posted links and have to admit I'm a bit intimidated!
Hopefully no one will mind a newbie lurking around and trying to learn.

[lace] another new person

2003-12-03 Thread Francesca Delluna
I'm yet another new person who just joined the list, nice to know I'm not
the only newbie!

I took a basic class on bobbin lace and fell in love. I'm working on one
small easy easy pattern right now and enjoying it immensely. I'd like to
learn more about this and keep improving my skills and knowledge but have
no idea how to go about this since we recently moved to a new area and I
know no one who does any lacemaking in this area. I'm in central Kentucky
now if anyone has any ideas or suggestions for me.

Looking forward to reading the list and learning from all of the very

But they are large. The
Vine is almost 24" wide and 30" long. It requires mostly 70/3 Pella linen, but the
leaves add 50/3 Pella
linen workers to add definition to the central motif. The working drawing is right on
the pricking itself. I

I have made three of her pictures now, two in the linen suggested and one reduced so
that I could make it in
Pipers silk. They are as Patty said clearly marked, imaginative torchon. Give it a try
- but only if you have
a pillow big enough. That makes it much more fun to work, than trying to balance the
bobbins on a pillow which
is too small

I am interesting in ordering and trying one - has anyone an idea of the level of
difficulty?

Hi Rose-Marie,

I have purchased two of those lace pictures, The Vine and The Good Shepherd. The
technique is not difficult, mostly Torchon grounds, which Eeva-Liisa uses in very
imaginative ways. But they are large. The Vine is almost 24" wide and 30" long. It
requires mostly 70/3 Pella linen, but the leaves add 50/3 Pella linen workers to add
definition to the central motif. The working drawing is right on the pricking itself.
I find everything to be clearly marked.

I made a deal with a quilter friend at church to make a backing for The Vine so we can
present it as a hanging. Now I just have to make the lace!

Hi Mindy!

I'm also in this list. I don't post a lot but I really enjoy the list. Can
you post the link to your web site? I have lost all my links becasue I have
now a new computer.

I'm diying to see what you have come up with Irish Crochet. I haven't done
nothing recently but Irish Crochet is one of my passions. Well among my other
passions like Tatting, Torchon, Stained Glass, Quilling, Crochet, Hairpin
Lace, Knitting, Needlelace, Tenerife... LOL!!! I think I'm a passionated
lacemaker afterall.

Take care!
