[lace] Sally Johanson' s Knyppling
I have been given 4 copies of Sally Johanson' s Knyppling in paperback. It is all in Swedish - so not much use unless you have a grasp of the language. It has a few patterns and plenty of diagrams. I would be happy to send one to anyone who would like it, but would appreciate you covering the cost of packing and postage, if possible. They are various editions - I will send the most recent to the first to reply, and so on! In effect, some of her framed pieces, reemembered me contemporary lace, today made by many lacemakers. It came to my mind the discussion recently hold on this list, about origin of laces I thought that it could be of interest of those people on Arachne interested in textil art, to see Esther Chacon's works, so I have uploaded a resume of the Exhibition. Those works that can be the most representatives related with lace. I shall remove the pictures in some days. [lace] lacemaking on bobbin
Hi everyone An opinion poll - maybe just send to me privately, and if I have a lot of replies, I'll tally and report back. If you would buy a bobbin so inscribed, which would you prefer: I (heart) lacemaking ...or... I (heart) lacing ...or... doesn't matter. I would rather be lacing ...or... I would rather be lacemaking ...or... I would rather be making lace ...or... doesn't matter. Assume that this is a nicely painted bobbin, also assume that I'm not painting it g. [lace] Miss Channer goes Chantilly
Dear David I am very curious as to why working Miss Channer's mat in black with half stitch for the 'clothwork' areas should be called 'going Chantilly'. Surely you are just making Bucks Point using black thread. Bucks Point was frequrntly made using black thread and then the 'clothwprk' areas were invariably worked in half stitch. Please will you explain which techniques you are using make it Chantilly instead of Bucks Point. Re: [lace] Crochet
The only history of crochet that I know of is Lis Paludan's Crochet: History Technique, which only covers up to the early 20th century. However, since the period is so recent, there may will be Arachnes (is Dominique still on the list?) who remember what was being crocheted at that time. Patterns were copied/shared/re-assembled all the time. This doesn't seem unusual to me. I'm curious about why you are investigating this area. Are you writing a book or short story that requires background details for the period? Best wishes, Avital On Mon, Mar 23, 2009 at 3:50 PM, Nathalie stevieni...@gmail.com wrote: I realize this list is dedicated to lace but I was hoping people could help me out with crochet history. Does anyone know about crochet in the 1950, in France? What material was used? I wondered if they used cotton or linnen. I guess probably cotton? [lace-chat] Providence?
Is the bungalow insured by the seller or by you? That would have an influence on what you do. Last time we moved, we were advised by our solicitor to not only keep the insurance running on the house we were selling until the sale was competed, but also on the one we were buying just in case the seller didn't have any and something happened to it. We also keep the insurance running on my FIL's bungalow until completion. It was empty through the winter from November, when he died, to February until the sale completed. The insurance company stipulated that the water, gas and electricity should be turned off, and the property checked fortnightly. Because we only live four properties away, and it was winter, we didn't turn off the services because we wanted the central heating running to avoid problems like freezing pipes, and we checked it daily.
