[lace] Hansa Days in Tartu
Tartu is celebrating Hansa Days this weekend, but yesterday I was busy cleaning our attic guest room. We are providing bed breakfast for a German student who is attending a 2 week-long course at the Tartu University Language School learning Estonian before he returns in September. After dinner last night I went for a wander in the town to have a look see - lots of people selling jewellery! A couple of old friends saw me first, then I met another new Chinese friend, then I spotted a young Aussie guy from Albury, NSW whom I met 3 weeks ago. This time his Estonian girlfriend was with him. After that I bought a lemon gelato from our favourite pizza place half a kilo of beans from a vegetable vendor that hadn't packed up wandered home a different way than usual. This hasn't much to do with lace - but today is Clay Blackwell's birthday, so send her an e-mail. Now I'm off with hubby to meet 2 more Australian friends for Sunday brunch. Clay Blackwell writes indicates that there has never been any archival indication of the existence of lacemaking in Williamsburg during that time, and therefore there is never any demonstration of the art of lacemaking in the historical village...When I visited Williamsburg in February 1995, a bobbin lacemaker was demonstrating lacemaking in front of a big display of lace in one of the historic buildings . I wish I had kept the name of the lacemaker, but I did not. Hello Aurelia A quick search found that A.M.S. was Miss Mary Sharp. The preface in the book gives A.M.S. as living at Ufton Court, a beautiful Elizabethan house in Berkshire, in 1899.
