[lace] Lace Tablecloth w/gravy
Just to make this posting lace I'll say I agree with Beth's analysis of the gravy on lace tablecloth matter. Daphne, with all that time and love put into that, I think you should write the book. Sue T, In damp but drying Dorset, can we have some dry reasonable next week please:-) Hello One and All I have sent a picture of the original Children in Need tablecloth, for anyone who has not seen it before. On the original there is a line where the ends were plaited off which I don`t like. So one the cloth I am doing now, I am darning the ends in which I think will look better. my hair on the photo is dark,. I`m afraid its not like that now. The man in the photo is Tony Mallion who was the producer of the Children in need shows in 2001 on radio Norfolk. I am currently pondering as to wether to write a little book about the story of the tablecloth from the thought right through to the auction. It is still a very fond memory for me. RE: [lace] lace tablecloth?
Dear Arachneans, since you started bringing up the discussion about the lace tablecloth I, too, visited the site. And Noelene, I think you are quite right. Petra is a very generous and nice person. I had the privilege of being her room-mate, when both of us attended the Leistungskurs A of Deutscher Klöppelverband, this is the first of a series of courses which are mainly intended to train bobbin lacemakers who want to teach others or to improve their own techniques with emphasis on drawing your own designs. We did not know each other before, but meet on the German Spitzenliste and agreed to share a room for almost 2 weeks in July 2005. We had a very good time there and learned very much in the course. I did write an email to her, mentioning, that you would appreciate a translation of her site.*bg* Greetings in Germany Martina On 3 Feb 2007 at 7:19, Noelene Lafferty wrote: No, not a magic thread. She says at Stage 5 : My board has a Klöppelfläche of 60 x 60 cm. A translation: My pillow has a working area of 60 x 60 cm. For this tablecloth I must move the blocks more than once. I have laid a red thread through the starting loops, so that right at the end I can find them again more easily. My interpretation: It's not magic threads, it is one long red thread passed through every start loop. Enlarge the images at 17. Januar 2005 to see it more clearly. -- Money can't buy everything. She started it January 1, 2005 and finished it on April 10, 2005. From what I could figure out she used 166 pair of bobbins, and it was 118cm square. If, like me, you don't speak German you can read the Google translated version here http://www.tiny.cc/CxgtJ it's not brilliant, and some words don't translate at all, but it helps you to understand how she created her masterpiece. Re: [lace] lace tablecloth - managing a lace pillow
Absolutely unbelievable! As she says, it takes Geduld, Geduld and then some more Geduld (and to my mind, takes a lot more than just Geduld! takes imagination!) P.S. I have been making a tablecloth too, for the past year or so -- as a change of pace between projects (fans, etc.), but mine doesn't compare to hers for patience, ingenuity, scope. Thank you for pointing our noses that way! Look at the red thread along the corner line. Is this a version of the 'magic 'thread? Has anyone used this method? When you look at this wonderful site, please note how the lacemaker has managed her bobbins. This was not a pillow that traveled to meetings. IncorrectSee picture entry 16. She bundled everything up, put it in a large bag, and took it to lace meeting or somewhere. That was very brave, and determined, of her. I would probably have taken a smaller project to meeting, and left something this huge at home. Re: [lace] lace tablecloth start thread
The red thread is a support to keep the start even, and does aid joining finish to start (making it easier to locate the respective pairs). I like the bobbin-stacking device too :) On 2/2/07, Elizabeth Pass [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Look at the red thread along the corner line. Is this a version of the 'magic 'thread? Noelene in Cooma PS - I added magic threads in three different alternating colours, along the starting edge of a hexagonal Bucks mat I started recently.I then made plaits of the threads in groups of about 10, and pinned the ends to the side of the work so they would not tangle. Now I am finishing off, and am finding it so simple to undo a plait, take the magic thread I want, pull through the finishing thread, and tie off. Highly recommended way to go. Can someone explain this so that I can recognize it? I don't seem to be able to see it. Other people have already commented on the Princess part of this question. I saw nothing in the pictures that would say 'princess lace' to me. The figures are bobbin lace, and typical of Cantu inserts. The 3-D parts are very interesting and not so typical. The inserts in the linen section are needlelace. The edge is bobbin lace. The whole thing is beautiful. I would love to just have it close enough to study. I know how long it took me to do four inches square of Cantu. There must have been an army of lacemakers working on this cloth. It must be worth at least $1000. I'll have to watch what it sells for, and just dream. It's way beyond my lace budget. Happy lacing, Alice in Oregon -- very cold and sunny today.
