To provide an example for her, I recently finished a scarf 120cm X 15cm in Toender for an exhibition. I took the trouble to add up the hours as I went and the entire work took slightly more than 2200 hours. As these exhibits are for sale, I have had the audacity to put AUS $2000 on it - that's slightly less than $1 per hour's work (or pleasure as you see fit)!! That equals US $ 2095 and GB £ 1288 and Euro $ 1469 If she's willing to pay at least double that rate, I'd be interested David in Ballarat - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. Re: [lace] Bobbin lace commission
Dear Lorelei, I wouldn't price it at less than $10/hour. Therefore $22000. What do dresses by international designers cost nowadays? I have no idea: haven't bought one in years LOL David in Ballarat - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here. One has to commend her abition. Because I'm still working I couldn't give the time to this and for me to take time out to do this I doubt she, as a student, could afford the cost. Hopefully there is someone out there who could. Is there any one out able/willing to help her? I have pointed out that BL is a time consuming process which means that any commission will be expensive. Brenda Dear Brenda, After I visited your webpage, I can feel your passion on lacemaking. I am writing to ask if you make bobbin lace with specific designs. I am a MA Fashion Design and Technology student of London College of Fashion. I am currently planning for my final MA collection. I really appreciate the delicacy and subtlety of bobbin lace. I am interested in applying bobbin lace into my designs. At the moment, I am developing graphic images which can then be integrated into lace designs. Since I cannot do the lace by myself, I am looking for any professional bobbin lacemakers with good craftsmanship could plait the laces for me. So, do you make laces? Or, do you have any of your students are interested the above matter? I am not asking for sponsorship, so I will pay for the handcrafts. I sincerely hope that you could help. I am sure the outcomes would be amazing and positive in promoting the aesthetics of bobbin lace. I am looking forwards to hearing from you. Thank you very much for your attention! The other things that bother me relates to the time constraint... she will have long since missed the deadline on her project by the time the lace is finished... AND by then, the two-year surge of lace in fashion may be over, so her project will lack originality. Clay On 4/18/2011 4:25 PM, The Lace Bee wrote: One has to commend her abition. Re: [lace] Bobbin lace commission
At the moment, I am developing graphic images which can then be integrated into lace designs is the phrase that frightens me. First of all, she seems to have images in the plural. Secondly, they are not lace designs. This is not surprising in that she doesn't make or design lace, so she does not understand design considerations and technical issues in lace. Instead they are images that can be incorporated into lace designs, which implies that the maker of the commission will also have to devote considerable time and possess considerable skill in designing the lace. I doubt that I would have the skills to design such a piece, or pieces. Then, if I did, and I made it, I would probably have to make it twice as the first attempt would reveal the mistakes I had made in designing it. It could be a very long term project.
