[leaf-user] question

2003-07-01 Thread JKonrad
Hi there,

I have a question: I have written an extensive firewall script using sh and iptables.
I am now looking for a linux diskette distribution which enables me to boot a machine
from diskette (with iptables
and pppoe enabled), then insert my diskette with my firewall.sh and run it. I wondered
if you would have any recommendations concerning this procedure?

Many thanks for listening,

Jay

Jay,

 concerning this procedure?

You can use LEAF Bering, remove shorewall.lrp and use your script instead.
The fwbuild.lrp package could help you there, even if you don't use
fwbuilder at all.

- Install and configure Bering, remove shorewall.lrp
- Get the fwbuild.lrp package from the tarball at
http://leaf-project.org/mod.php?mod=userpagemenu=1402page_id=49
and install it on your floppy

- Copy your iptables script to your running system, e.g to /tmp/your-script
- run /etc/init.d/fwbuilder install /tmp/your-script

Regards
Alex

RE: [leaf-user] Problems detecting NIC's

2003-07-01 Thread Stefaan Van Dooren
Problem solved.
I downloaded drivers from
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/pub/adapters/dfe-530tx/linux_dlkfet-4.24.tar.gz
Compiled them on a test machine I found (different kernel, but also 2.2),
put them on the DOC, changed nessecary configs et voilla !!!
Module is called rhinefet.o by DLINK instead of via-rhine.o

So if anyone is having problems to get those nic's working, use the drivers
provided by DLINK.

Not unless you have updated source code to do this with. Knoppix is running
a 2.4.x kernel like Bering does, while Dachstein is running a 2.2.x kernel
which is no longer being updated. I can't say that I've heard of problems
with these cards before, might it be a problem with the particular box
you are using instead of the NIC's?

That's nothing to worry about. PIIX4 is the IDE chipset on your
motherboard. With Linux, support for things like this can either be
incorporated when the kernel is compiled, or added later by loading
 additional kernel modules.

Support for IDE isn't compiled into Bering's stock kernel, because it's
 not always needed.

Ok... That I understand, but I'm running from compact flash.. Put that
compact flash in another system with an ALI chipset, and did not get the
warning.. It loaded just fine... Why the difference?

A quick google would have led you to
http://www.homepna.org/support/faqs.asp#FAQ6, which provides directions
for compiling the il.o modules used by the Broadcom chip.

I haven't tried it myself, but according to a discussion on debian
planet (http://debianplanet.org/node.php?id=704) the file on the linksys
site (ftp://ftp.linksys.com/beta/linux_hpna2_0_v2_34_0_2.exe) provides
precompiled object files rather than complete sources. I suspect it
won't work with a current Bering kernel.

If you pursue this, please report your results to the list.

 Thanks!

[leaf-user] package remote install

2003-07-01 Thread Erich Titl
Hi everybody

I uploaded the package remote install scripts to my CVS repository under

http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/leaf/devel/etitl/bering

In order to use it you need rload.lrp from the packages directory.
Additionally you will need to patch /etc/lrp.conf and /etc/init.d/modutils.
The patches can be found in the respective directories in my CVS path above
(or will be found as soon as CVS gets updated). After installing rload.lrp
and applying the patches to /etc/lrp.conf and /etc/init.d/modutils
respectively you can configure rload using the parameters in /etc/lrp.conf.
The patch to lrp.conf shows an example using wget to fetch the packages
from a host on the internal network.

You will have to install your network drivers in /boot/lib/modules and
declare them in /boot/etc/modules as illustrated in
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo/biaddrm.html#AEN772

This allows you to run a LEAF box on a single floppy and still have many
packages loadable. Probably even a 1.44 MB floppy should be sufficient.

Let me know if anything is unclear and have fun

Erich

sorry, no (and I just set up a vanilla 1.2 box to make sure the binary
is ok).

I used the package linked on this site
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpagemenu=91004page_id=40
and after creating the keys, everything works flawlessly.
Where did you get libssl2 from? I'm not aware that one exists for uClibc
and maybe sshd gets confused by that (even though sshd is statically
linked against ssl, but who knows).

So, in short, no, I don't know what's happening, but since I'm the one
who made the sshd.lrp (that is, if you're referring to the openssh
versions) I thought I should try to find out what's wrong.

[leaf-user] ssh and link error

2003-07-01 Thread chrispatch
I just downloaded the lrps for ssh and sshd listed under the Uclibc
Packages tree. However whenever /usr/sbin/sshd attempts to start I am
getting the following error.
./sbin: linked against GNU libc!!

Anyone have any insight into what I need to do to fix this?

Currently I have the following lrps on this system.
root
etc
local
modules
keyboard
libc225
libz
libpopt
libcrpto
libssl2
djbutils
maradns
netsnmpd
sshd
ssh

Try the libz,ssh,sshd from
http://leaf.sourceforge.net/devel/jnilo

To do this you DO have to uce the libc225.

I had the same problem and this worked for me.
