[LU] Warnock talking a good game

2012-02-20 Thread DAVID NATTAN
3 great things here
1. Snoddy going to be our main ma
2. Keeping 2 men up when we defend corners - love this
3. Players going to go through brick walls for us.

Like most (everyone?) I disliked him prior to Saturday but as I said to my wife
(who is calling me a hypocrite and turn coat for now saying good things about
him) this is probably the first time I have actually listened or read what he
says , rather than the odd complaint about refs etc, and he is really winning
me over. I do hope he can walk the walk

Dave

Speaking exclusively to the Yorkshire Post yesterday in his new office
at Thorp Arch, Warnock said: “When you play against good teams, they put two
men on Robert Snodgrass.

“I would certainly do that if in charge of an opposing team against Leeds. You
can mark him out of the game on the wing.

“The difference with the role I asked him to play in the second half is you
can’t mark him.

“The
second goal, when he crossed from wide on the left (for Adam Clayton to
score), proved that. Doncaster couldn’t pick him up in time.

“Snodgrass
is a player who can do anything. He creates goals, he scores goals and
he gives defenders a hard time. I want him on the ball as much as
anyone.

“I remember his performance against QPR (last Christmas
when Leeds beat Warnock’s side 2-0) was outstanding. That is how I see
him.

“What I also want to see is a situation where three out of
the front four know they can interchange. That is what I love to see. I
will be looking for a lot more of that in the coming weeks.”

Warnock
visited the United dressing room ahead of kick-off against Rovers but
then planned to leave team matters to caretaker manager Neil Redfearn.

That
plan had to be shelved, however, as a poor Leeds display in the opening
45 minutes left Warnock knowing changes had to be made.

He said:
“It was really frustrating being in the stands. After 10 minutes, I was
really wishing I had put my name down on the sheet to be able to be in
the dugout as there was a space on it.

“The little things were what I was desperate to change, maybe the ones the
punters don’t notice.

“For
example, in the first half we defended a corner and (winger Andros)
Townsend was inside our six-yard box. This meant we had one lad, (Ross)
McCormack, up front with everyone else back.

“I got hold of
Townsend at half-time and said, ‘Who told you to go there on corners? I
want you on the halfway line on one side and McCormack on the other’.
That way the opposition have to bring three back, which is what
happened.

“When we did change things, I thought it worked a lot
better. And that’s without the chance to show the lads a few things on
the training ground. I expect us to be better at Portsmouth (next
Saturday) and a lot better the week after against Southampton. We are
going to be working hard over the next couple of weeks.”

Along
with handing Snodgrass a role similar to the one Adel Taarabt proved so
devastating in as QPR romped to the Championship title last term,
Warnock also envisages ditching the 4-4-2 formation United have employed
in all but a handful of games this season.

The new Leeds chief
said: “The fans will have to trust me with formations as I am not
convinced we can play 4-4-2 with the players we have got and expect to
win games.

“The main thing I can tell the fans is they can come
to games knowing the players wearing the Leeds shirt will be willing to
run through brick walls for 90 minutes.

“There won’t be anyone
putting a Leeds shirt on giving less than 100 per cent for 90 minutes
under me, I can promise everyone that.”

Mine too! After months of being thoroughly fed and not enjoying going
to games - I've finally got some optimism! Let's hope Colin delivers.
Looking forward to the Portsmouth game now.

I'm quite interested to see how much he is talking about tactics
(albiet at a relatively simple level) - the media portrayal of him is
of someone who is a motivator not a tactician.

Club, fantastic support, need a leader on the pitch, defence needs sorting
out, get it up to the big man etc etc etc.

Nothing he has said is any great surprise and words are easy, actions a bit
more difficult.

I'm holding back any judgement until he's actually done something - sorting
out the defence for example. I'll be at the beginning of the Golden Age of
Warnock at Pompey on Saturday, so lets see what happens.

Any plans for a List meet?

Although 7 promotions would indicate that there's more to him than just

O'Neill - he publicly shows his appreciation for a good job done, and players
seem to respond positively, wanting to play for him.

[LU] Hypocrisy litmus test

2012-02-20 Thread Robert Heath
In my view (FWIW), the key test of whether we are hypocrites or not is
whether we still call him Colin.

For those who are concerned about the style we may be about to adopt, I
happened to watch what was I think Colin's penultimate game in charge of
QPR, away at Arsenal. They played some good stylish football, and with a
bit of luck (specifically, if the otherwise superb Wright-Pillock had not
weirdly passed the ball straight to Arshavin on the edge of their box),
they could have come away with a draw or a win.

who paid Warnock's expenses to whizz over to Monaco for an

Apparently, there is a jolly photo somewhere of Bates, Harvey Warnock

I wondered the same thing - LU should have paid but I wouldn't put it past
Bates to have made Warnock stump up.

Stop me if this has been on the list before. But given that the oft-quoted
fortune of Bates is supposed to be 17M quid (plus or minus), it must cost
him an awful lot more money being a tax-exile in MC than his tax
liabilities would be in the UK(*). Does he have more money than people
think? Does he just like MC (which I can understand)? Or is it just part of
the Bates mystic that we all take at face value rather than looking
behind the smoke and mirrors?

[LU] LUST - 7min protest at Sants game

2012-02-20 Thread DAVID NATTAN
My reply (for what its worth) to LUST email asking whether the7min protest
should still take place v Southampton

Scrap the protest and get behind the team and Warnock.
Encourage fans to buy tickets and get the place rokcing BUT let Bates know that
this is a temporary 'ceasefire' and that more protests etc will happen
if he does not back the manager at the end of the season on the pitch

The mission statements main resolve was to see things progressing on the
playing side and I think that the appointment of Warnock shows that this is now
happening at least  at management level

It was noticeable on Satruday that for the first time ever the anti Bates
stuff during the game was met with some boos and dissent from others in
the crowd
