We are getting off topic here and it's my fault, but there are some pictures in
old messages that show what he got. A small vile with a tiny amount of dust in
it is pretty average for him. He always says he can't quit his day job!

Now, let's see if Curt "practices what he preaches" after the trip.

He is always asking for pictures. Let's see if he posts pictures for us to
see, of all the gold he panned.

For his sake (and Mike's), I hope they find the Mother Lode!

RE: three legacy's for sale and accessories and parts

2019-08-10 Thread bulkeley
Great idea tim I have thought about that with lots of legacy spares but the
same old problem shipping to and from your country and mine costs a small
fortune no one would buy from me when the shipping costs more than the item

I'd probably get in trouble with my wife if I spent more on my LOM and WC
project.

I'd love to have them but I lots of other expense to cover right now.

Just filled my LP tank for my makeup air unit. Was down to 10% and I have a
1000 gal tank. That one hurt.

That's something you can build then would you make more for resale then Bill?

Seems several have mentioned wanting controls? just a thought

Hey Mac,

On my Wood Chuck I have (or had) two motors. The one is the main drive unit
the second one on mine is mounted on the front and runs the Head stock but
is a very small and light motor. Not very dependable but none the less its
there.

2019-08-07 Thread Tim Krause
We are getting off topic here and it's my fault, but there are some pictures in
old messages that show what he got.  A small vile with a tiny amount of dust in
it is pretty average for him.  He always says he can't quit his day job!

RE: three legacy's for sale and accessories and parts

2019-08-07 Thread MWF
That stands for Upper Peninsula. If you look at a map of Michigan - it is split into two good size pieces of land - both being peninsulas.  They refer to the northern piece, that wraps around much of the northern edge of Wisconsin, the UP / Upper Peninsula. It is kind of Michigan's "Outback" - but it isn't barren like your's.  It is full of vegetation and considered remote living - very sparsely populated. As far as I know there are no cities of any size in the UP.  Most of Michigan's population lives in the lower 25% of the "Lower Peninsula" (Weather is a tad bit better there.).  Most of the population centers in Michigan owe their existence to the founders of our automobile industry.  Many (most?) of them surrounding Detroit.Sorry for the long answer to your very short question.Mac-Original Message-

In photo #19:

There are two "drive motors". They do not look alike. Why?

One (the one outside of the box) is smaller than the other.

The one in the box appears to maybe have been a motor that was ordered "after
the fact" for the Mill.

Inquire as to whether there is a shipping label on it; what does it say; and
what is written on the papers in the shrink wrap around the motor in the box?

Thanks.

you are correct Mac!... what I am doing is assisting the seller in making
sure each machine is complete, in regards to gear sets, motors and controls
for the lead screw drive, perhaps some accessories(it seems each machine
has the template follower accessory already installed) and any other item
that would logically go with a "complete" Legacy machine... then helping
him organize the left over parts and/or accessories that he can offer for
sale... he is already set up with Ebay, so that might be the better way to
go for him to maximize his return... the woodchuck stuff I might think
would be a tough sell, but that remains to be seen... in the mean time,
things need to be identified and grouped together properly, especially the
woodchuck items... so any assistance from the group members is needed and
appreciated... posting more photos now... Joe B.

Re: three legacy's for sale and accessories and parts

2019-08-07 Thread MWF
Joe,Thank you! - You have done a GREAT job of working with the current owner - and getting/sending out the photos.I am sure I speak for everyone in The Group when I say "Thank you - much appreciated!".For the most part, he seems to have 3 each of most of the Model 900/1200 items pictured.  Naturally, he'll want to keep a "Basic set" of components for each of the 3 Mills.  He may want to consider "parting out" all of the "Up sell items" - like the drive motor kits, .25 Reduction Gear Sets, 2X Multiplier Gear Sets, etc.  Doing so may do two things:  1.  Keep the selling price of the Mills down to where a "somewhat reluctant buyer" will be willing to shell out the lesser amount "to get their feet wet/intro to ornamental milling". (vs having to buy a Mill "full up" with accessories the buyer may feel they will never need).2.  Selling the "Up sell" kits separate will likely yield the seller a higher return.  Selling these should be easier - as they can be easily boxed up and mailed.  The Mills may end up being "Local pickup only"; or a PITA for the seller to prep for and arrange shipping.Just some of my thoughts. Also, can you get him to better identify what the paper labels on some of gears/sets say. The writing in several photos are blurry/unreadable.  Thanks. Thanks again.Mac-Original Message-

received additional photos from the buyer(now seller) of those three Legacy mills... these photos show the seller organizing and grouping the parts as best he knows(he knows almost nothing about the workings of a legacy mill, generally speaking)… there are 14 additional photos here, and I am going to try posting three photos per post... as I mentioned before, I am not scaling the photos down, so let's see how this might work as far as individual members downloading time... I will also ask members of this group to refer to the photo number when commenting, so we all can reference back to the photo... what is being asked here is an identification of what is there, for the purpose of what goes with the three legacy's that he is selling and what will then be sold separately as parts... there seems to be a decent amount of woodchuck parts, but ii would wait to hear from the woodchuck guys as to what they can identify

Joe,

This box has at least one set of "Limit Switches with brackets" in it.

Also appears to have "Y-Axis Hand Wheel sets (with hardware) and at least one
Y-Axis gantry.

I'm puzzled by that good-size piece in the upper left with the two shafts w/ a
gear on each one is. Looks like something about it is designed to change
orientation by 90 degrees.

If you get him to take more pics, suggest he:

1. Wipe the dust off so we can see what's in the bags. Do not open bags - if
possible.

2. If there is a label or tag, take the pic such that we can see AND read
(mean have writing in focus) label/tag.

3. As best he can, arrange "like items" together. If several are identical,
have one "face up" and the other "face down" in the photo - so we can see what
both sides look like. For instance arrange the "Lettered Gears" so that we see
all seven - and if he has 4 sets, have all 4 sets laid out on the photo. I
realize that may be a "pain" - BUT, it will make a difference when he lists
them for sale.

Thanks again!

Joe,I can "help" you on this one.  Those nylon "Gear Packages" are for a Legacy Model 500/600.  Appears
that when they are installed, they produce a 3" pitch. The topmost
larger gear is the Indexing Gear/Plate for the set.  I'm not sure where
the two smaller ones mount.  Most likely one is used where we normally
mount one of the "lettered" gears on the Models 1000/1500.I also see several Manual Crank Handles (not assembled) and a fair number of accessory mounting brackets in the box.Thank you VERY much for tackling this task. You get awarded Tim's K's "Golden Gear Award" this week! (When you visit theLegacy factory in UT, you can show it and get a free cup of coffee in their break room.Mac-Original Message-
