Re: [LegacyUG] Text size on pedigree reports
Use the reset button on the report screen in the lower right to reset the report to its defaults. Try the report to see if that fixes the problem. Because of space limitations on the page the user has no control over font size other than changing the number of generations/page. To maximize the font size use the 4 Generations/page setting to get the largest boxes and font sizes. Re: [LegacyUG] build 412
Yes, yes, YES! Thank you very much for bringing this back! I do wish, however, that there was a title over each box. (7.5 only had a title over the siblings box - but there should be a title over both). For those of us that are not in the program daily, and when we get down to the branches containing distant relatives (that is, names we don't immediately recognize), it can be confusing to remember which box is showing whom. [LegacyUG] Fixed Fonts, Destroyed Columns?
While people are discussing fonts, which fonts in Legacy are fixed, that is will show up on the screen and in printed reports, before and after saving notes and events, with the same spacing? I do my best to put census data, including names and age, in columns and the columns are destroyed after saving and re-opening events and notes. Jay Ingalls On 2/28/2014 1:11 AM, MikeFry wrote: On 28 Feb 2014 00:31, Don Hanson wrote: Sherry was right that not all fonts are created equal. Simply put, some fonts have descenders that are longer than 'normal' so that they touch or nearly touch letters in the next line. It is easiest to accept that not all fonts will work for a particular purpose. Those of us who design for a living have some 'tricks' that can sometimes beat a font into submission, but rarely is a particular font the only one that can be used, so spending time trying different methods is just not worth the time and effort. I've noticed that the alignment of text within its' control has an effect on some fonts. Text that is aligned towards the bottom of, say, a text box, can exhibit this behaviour. RE: [LegacyUG] L8 charts seem bloated
Jacob, I created two identical charts using Legacy 7.5 and Legacy 8.0 using the sample file. The Legacy 8.0 chart file is larger (272 KB vs. 140 KB). Your file seems to have grown more than mine so I would check and make sure you are using the exact same options in both files before you compare them (the addition of two extra people shouldn’t have added that much). I used the default options in both. If you notice, the two files have different extensions. Legacy 7.5 is .lwc and the Legacy 8.0 file is .lwcx. The different formats end up being different sizes. What you can do to make the file smaller so that you can email it is to right click on the chart file, select Send to then Compressed (zipped) Folder. Email the zip file and then the recipient can unzip it on their end. [LegacyUG] Sharing Events - should it be automatically go to person highlighted
Hi Not sure if this is a bug but thought to check before reporting it as such. When I share an event from the person's events, after I click on Select from the Name List, is it supposed to open the Name List with the person highlighted? The problem you reported below is now fixed and is included in the latest update to Legacy 8.0. No. There is a limited ability to translate chart style reports only. If the report has translations available there will be a Report Language button on the report screen. Narrative reports will only be translated if you use Legacy in the appropriate language you need (see the international versions section of our web page) Please Visit our Home page www.LegacyFamilyTree.com and scroll down to see the list of available languages. You will need to download and install Legacy for that language. WARNING: It may replace your existing English language version. NOTE: Legacy will not translate any user input. That will remain in the language it was entered. The other language versions will however use non-English sentence wording and names for standard events etc. in reports. Custom events you created in English will remain in English. Re: [LegacyUG] un-set direct line
Hi Ron, You can't unset a direct line - what it is doing is changing who the preferred child is in the particular families and each family has to have a preferred child whether or not you choose to show who it is. If you haven't set the preferred child either individually or by setting a direct line that runs through that family, the preferred child will be the first entered. You can change a direct line by setting the direct line to someone else. Each one set overrides the other when they intersect. I set a number of direct lines and then return and reset my own unless for a particular project I really want to go to a collateral line when using the quick navigation. Re: [LegacyUG] un-set direct line
Thanks Cathy and Bob. I am very familiar with the Set Direct Line. Bob's idea to set it based on someone with no ancestors will satisfy my need. Good idea Bob. I am tracking a particular combination of things that happen when the direct line has not been explicitly set. Once it has been set, those errors no longer show. In a database where no direct line has been set, the errors manifest in a few places. That's why I wanted to un-set the direct line. Re: [LegacyUG] Text size on pedigree reports
The Pedigree Charts in Build 412 are still a problem area. In the six generation if you don't put boxes around names names, some of the lines don't connect between generation, many are displaced from their central position on the previous generation. Font sizes change between generation. Gens 5 and 6 are in a large font with no bdm data, and when I delete the pedigree.usr file and try again I get large fonts and limited data in generations 2, 3, 4 and 6. The landscape versions are even worse - lines don't line up, gen 5 is on large font, and gens 5 and 6 have no bdm data. I have sent samples of these reports as generated by Builds 385 and 396 with a Problem report. So far we are seeing no improvement. Boyd On 4/03/2014 4:43 a.m., Brian/Support wrote: Use the reset button on the report screen in the lower right to reset the report to its defaults. Try the report to see if that fixes the problem. Because of space limitations on the page the user has no control over font size other than changing the number of generations/page. To maximize the font size use the 4 Generations/page setting to get the largest boxes and font sizes. [LegacyUG] Adding a new Source
In build 387 when I added a new source (using Basic Source Writer) I could select/save that source as I exited. In build 412 I can add the source, then I have to do a search to find it before I can continue. The source has been entered, but this is going backwards in the programming. Another glitch? [LegacyUG] Erratic Picture Center?
I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing erratic picture center renames? I haven't been able to recreate or tell what I'm doing different between the times it works and the times it doesn't so I just thought I'd see if anyone else is experiencing this. Sometimes (most times) it works flawlessly. But other times it doesn't. In picture center I select the Picture List, Browse... to a specific folder and then Rename it. It shows the new name in Picture Center. But when I Test All Media Folders... via Customize 6.2 it finds missing files just as if I hadn't renamed them. Anyone else seen this? Re: [LegacyUG] un-set direct line
Hi Ron, I don't think that will do it. The line will still be set as the new one doesn't override it anywhere. You can have more than one line set if they don't overlap. I think you'll have to deliberately change the preferred child where you are seeing the errors. Good testing. Cathy At 01:13 PM 4/03/2014, you wrote: Thanks Cathy and Bob.
