the report the settings are not correct.
Here are the settings I am trying to use:

 Pedigree Report

Format Tab - uncheck Put boxes around Individuals
Pictures Tab - Check Pictures of Individuals
 click Close

 Color text and boxes
click Set four line colors and then save

When I preview the report it is as I would like to see it. Now I save the
report by clicking Save in the lower right corner of the window and give
 it a file name.

I have to repeat the above steps each time I use this report even if I load

Your post is a bit confusing because you talk of Saving and Loading the

The Save and Load buttons in the lower right corner are for saving and
loading a set of Options, not for saving the Report itself. If you
create the Report as you want it, then save the resulting PDF file that
will re-appear just as you saved it every time you open it, just like
any document file will. If you want to create a similar report starting
with a different individual you can Load your saved Settings file and
your chosen settings, as for the earlier Report, will be applied to the
new Report.

Although we do allow discussion of the add-on programs on this list,
we may not have a lot of listers who use those add-on programs. I
don't think Progeny monitors this list (a couple of other add-on
developers do monitor the list for questions about their program).

Your best responses would come from a forum specific to Charting

[LegacyUG] To be fixed list?

2014-03-27 Thread lio .
Hello: I've been away for awhile, and just catching up on a billion messages.

I assume it is somewhere on the Legacy FamilyTree website, but I am unable to
find it.

Where am I able to see a list of items that :

1. have been fixed,
2. items that are still on the list to be fixed, and
3. items that will not be fixed?

I'm just back to Legacy after some travelling, and I noticed some fixes are
still outstanding (i.e. When looking at a person's sources, Legacy 7 shows:
Assigned Sources for: John Doe [200] in the top left corner, while Legacy 8
only shows Assigned Sources) Having the name of the person and their RIN
number available (as in Legacy 7) is a big time saver.

I know this feature was discussed earlier, but I have no idea if it fixed (but
still a glitch on my system), or if it is still in the lineup of being fixed,
or if it was dropped for being too difficult to fix).

So tracking down the list of fixes past, present and future would be very
helpful.

Thanks for your direction,

leo

RE: [LegacyUG] Pedigree Report Problem

2014-03-27 Thread Bobby Johnson
Jenny,
I am sorry that I confused you. I do understand what the load and save
buttons in the lower right corner are for. I was attempting to save the report
settings so that I could recall them when needed. It didn't work. The Other
save that I mentioned is in the upper right corner of the window that opens
when I click Color text and boxes. I want to use the 4 line colors.

I must go through the steps outlined in my original post each time I want to
run the report instead of simply loading the saved report options. I believe
the settings should stick and I believe the saved report options should set the
options I want. Neither is happening.

Thanks for your interest and help.

[LegacyUG] duplicate marriages

2014-03-27 Thread Kathy Meyer
I did a file merge awhile back (used intellimerge at suggestion of multiple
list members which worked wonderfull, thank you!) -- however, I ended up
with a bunch of duplicate marriages and I need to know the best way to get
rid of them.

Each spouse shows two marriages to the same person. I was removing some
one by one awhile back (as I came across them) but it would be nice to get
this cleaned up once and for all.

Any suggestions? Thanks! Kathy

if it's working in v7.5, it should be working in v8.

However, there were many design changes between the two versions.
Apparently not showing the name and RIN of the individual was one of
those. It's not considered a bug.

Since the Assigned Sources List is accessed from a person you're
working in, the name and RIN should be pretty obvious. If you can't
remember who you're working it, it's easy to slide the window down a
bit to see the name in the underlying view..

[LegacyUG] document detailing large number of individuals

2014-03-27 Thread Kathy Meyer
I have a document that is 33 pages long and details at least 20-30
individuals.

I will copy/paste the details of each page into my sourcing for the
individuals mentioned on each individual page the same way I do with a
census when it is showing multiple individuals.

I feel like I should be saving the entire document somewhere as well. The
original document gives a list of what is on each page and gives some
background about the archive and even some images of churches in the areas
of research and a map. I wouldn't want to add these individually to every
single individual that I am adding into my file. That seems excessive,
although it would be nice to be able to access these general items without
having to remember which individual that file is attached to. I hope that
makes sense.

I wish there was some 'general' area in Legacy that would allow us to add
this type of document and maybe tag the family 'line' that would be
involved.

Reasoning is that I don't want to inflate my individual files unnecessarily
but also, if I add to that tree later, I won't remember that I have a
really nice image of the church in the area that the person was born or
that I have a map of that area. And those things would only be attached to
the people I'm inputting now.

Does anyone have a work around for this? Or a suggestion about how you
would handle these type of more 'general' documents?

Thanks, Kathy

2014-03-27 Thread Brian/Support
The list of problem reports and their status are for company use only.
There is no to be fixed list available to users. Imagine what our
competitors could say about Legacy if that was opening available. You
can see what has been fixed or new features added in the releases on
this page. http://www.legacyfamilytree.com/RevisionHistory8.asp

I searched our message archives back to before Legacy 8 was released and
I could find no record of any discussion of the new header for the
assigned sources window in Legacy 8. I did see some comments from you
and I did edit an existing problem report to add you as a reporter for
an issue with the column widths on the assigned sources screen. That
issue is still outstanding.

The original document gives a list of what is on each page and gives
some background about the archive and even some images of churches in
the areas of research and a map. I wouldn't want to add these
individually to every single individual that I am adding into my file.
That seems excessive, although it would be nice to be able to access
these general items without having to remember which individual that
file is attached to. I hope that makes sense.

I wish there was some 'general' area in Legacy that would allow us to
add this type of document and maybe tag the family 'line' that would be
 involved.

Reasoning is that I don't want to inflate my individual files
unnecessarily but also, if I add to that tree later, I won't remember
that I have a really nice image of the church in the area that the
person was born or that I have a map of that area. And those things
would only be attached to the people I'm inputting now.

Does anyone have a work around for this? Or a suggestion about how you
would handle these type of more 'general' documents?

You could make the complete document a Master Source and attach the
file, then copy and paste the relevant passages to the Source Text field
in the Source Details whenever you cite this Source.

2014-03-27 Thread Ron Bernier
Kathy,

I would put the document (and photos) in Evernote. You could create a
Genealogy notebook and then create a sub notebook for each item you
want to save.

Ex: I have a Genealogy Notebook - sub Notebooks for 1880 Census, 1900
Census, etc., in each sub notebook, I have pages for each of my
locations. In those pages are transcriptions created from the
appropriate census.

Hi Brian:

I had pictured that a list would be helpful for users to keep track of fixes.
But you're right, from a business competition point of view such a list could
be used negatively.

I found the message I was mentioning. It was between you and Ron Miller
(January 9, 2014 - called To-Do Items). You told him you had input a
suggestion to the enhancements list to have the Name/Rin reinstated either in
the title bar or in the header of the screen of the To-Do Items.

Ron replied mentioning it was also missing from the title bar of the Assigned
Sources window and asked if you could request to have this reinstated also. I
see you didn't reply to him, so you might have missed that request.

That

[LegacyUG] lack of text formatting in Individual source - edit details section

2014-03-27 Thread Kathy Meyer
I've been assuming this was omitted from Version 8 for some odd reason but
maybe I am missing a toggle or other preferences choice so I'm asking the
list.

Example, I create a source with details for an individual #1 and copy it to
the clipboard. I paste that source to the next person #2. At this point,
I would have normally located the text that pertained to person #2 and
BOLDed and/or UNDERLINED that bit of text, leaving the rest of the text
intact since it gives a frame of reference for this bit of information; I
don't just add bits and pieces that apply to each individual and this was
very helpful for quickly finding the information for that 2nd person.

The bold, underline, etc options appear to be available when the source is
first created but not when it is pasted to the 2nd person. These are the
icons that appear to the left of the text itself in the details tab.

Is there a way to turn this function on? Or was it removed in V8?

Thanks for your help. Sorry for the multiple posts today that may sound
simplistic; I haven't been able to work on this for a long time and trying
to make up for lost time.

Please see below for my response, I have reported the details to Legacy, but
because you do not state your settings I cannot necessary confirm or otherwise

Even with V 7.5 the privacy settings for Legacy generated webpages left a lot

Subject: [LegacyUG] Possible bugs in webpages

Hi, all —

I’ve been doing some testing on generating web pages from Legacy version 8
(version 8.0.0.414), and I’ve been seeing all kinds of buggy output. Can
someone confirm that these are genuine bugs, and not just something funky with
the way I’ve been doing my report settings? Thanks.

Here are the issues I’m seeing:

(1) In Individual-Style Website pages —

* AKAs are all run together without commas to separate them
(and without an and before the last AKA in the list)

I agree that it would be better is the AKA’s were separated by
a comma – not using “and” doesn’t bother me (and programming that may be a bit
of a problem)

* Deceased spouses of living individuals which were set to
display as deceased still show up with full name and details

   Confirmed

* Unable to change wording options for any notes, events, etc.

  Confirmed

* For many couples, events print on one spouse, with notes
attached and event pictures, but on the other spouse the events only show up in
the event note portion, and so attached images do not display.

I cannot assess this, it may depend on the type of Event –
marriage or individual – please let me know where you attach your images.

* Alternate name for a deceased child is showing up in name
list (even though privacy says to show only “Deceased”). (This may be a problem
in other styles of web pages, too.)

Confirmed

* On the name list, when alternate names are included, it
appears that the main preferred name for a female is then omitted from the name
list. (This may be a problem in other styles of web pages, too.)

Mine includes both the AKA and Birth Name in the Name List –
perhaps a settings question?

* If the option to “include the main name from each page as the
page's title” (Project tab) is checked, then that individuals’ name displays at
the top of the page EVEN WHEN privacy options say to set that person’s name to
Living or Deceased (as the case may be).

I do not have this option under the project tab –where is it?

(2) In Family-Style Website pages —

* Unable to change wording options for any notes, events, etc.

  Confirmed

* Adds Title Suffix to the title of all family-report pages
(even though that was left blank on the project tab)

I’m afraid that I do not understand your comment. If you mean
under the Project tab: “Title for each page” leave blank, then it works for me;
the top of the page just has the name of the first couple. But see Project Tab
comment above

* On the family page for a living spouse with a deceased spouse
(when privacy options are set to replace names with “Living” or “Deceased”), it
still gives the full name of deceased spouse in the title of family group page,
and then when it gets to the deceased spouse in the body of the page it says
this spouse is Living. For children of this couple, the deceased spouse
shows up with full name.

Re the first part, this I can confirm. Since in my cases the
children are living I cannot confirm part 2.

* Deceased child shows up with all info, even though the option
was set to change that to simply Deceased.

Not for me, I’m afraid

(3) In Ancestor-Style Website pages —

* Deceased spouse shows up in report, even if privacy said to
change name to Deceased. (Shows up as “Deceased” on the living spouse’s
information, but then shows up with all information on details when it is the
deceased’s turn to be listed in the report.)

I am unable to confirm this, but a deceased child did show up when
set to deceased

(4) In Descendant-Style Website pages —

* When privacy was set to change the name of living individuals
to “Living” and to have deceased spouses and children of living individuals set
to “Deceased” — in one instance, the second living child in the list (who
happened to have two deceased spouses and a 3rd living spouse) had both
deceased spouses show up in the descendant report as if they

2014-03-27 Thread Bryan P
I also reported on this group a few weeks back that double bracketing [[ ]] a
part of some notes in an event on a webpage did in fact remove the whole event
rather than just the offending lines.

for messages on assigned sources not To Do issues.

 Thanks for your help,

 leo

Sorry, it is not obvious to me. When inputting a large number of records
its easy to forget who you are working on. I'm sure I'm not the only one.
Being able to look up at the left corner and see the person's name and RIN
number is much faster and easier than having to move windows back and forth.

Actually Brian reported this issue way back when. It sounded then more like
it had been forgotten than a design change.

RE: [LegacyUG] Possible bugs in webpages

2014-03-27 Thread Kirsty M. Haining
Hi, Ron —

Thanks for your reply and for testing the various webpage output problems. I
have submitted a bug report on these problems. See my comments below (in a
different-colored font for clarity) on the few points where you needed further
explanation or were unable to confirm the same results. All other sections have
been snipped:

(1) In Individual-Style Website pages —

* For many couples, events print on one spouse, with
notes attached and event pictures, but on the other spouse the events only show
up in the event note portion, and so attached images do not display.

I cannot assess this, it may depend on the type of Event –
marriage or individual – please let me know where you attach your images.

I was talking about individual events and noticing differences in the ways
individual events were being displayed. Some of these were census events (not
shared events, but duplicated as individual events if other individuals shared
in the same census event), residence events, occupation events, etc.

However, it appears my comments were somewhat mistaken on this topic. I have
noticed a difference in the output on events, and I thought this difference in
output was related to whether or not images were showing up in the output. By
more careful examination, I see that the difference in output had nothing to do
with the lack of images — it was simply a coincidence. The problem that I was
noticing, however, is that on some people the Events print under a heading that
is titled simply “Events” (with ruled lines above and below the word), whereas
for others the events print under a double heading that is Events (with rules
above and below) followed by “Notes” (also with rules above and below). This
second Event-header Notes appears unrelated to the real “Notes” heading which
follows the Spouse and children section, and prints out general notes, birth
notes, etc. (as I have chosen in my output options).

I was noticing the difference in the Event header almost every other person —
for a while I thought it was gender-related, but it was not as simple as that.
If one spouse had one style of heading for events, the other almost always had
the other style. When I first saw this happening, coupled with the discrepancy
in images (which turned out to be completely coincidental), I thought what I
was seeing was the output of events for one individual and event notes only for
the other individuals. In fact, as I examine it now, the only difference
appears to be in how the section is titled.

However, I have noticed that none of my sources on events are attached or
printing at all. (New problem not previously noticed.)

* On the name list, when alternate names are included, it
appears that the main preferred name for a female is then omitted from the name
list. (This may be a problem in other styles of web pages, too.)

Mine includes both the AKA and Birth Name in the Name List –
perhaps a settings question?

When I check the setting for Alternate given and surnames on the What tab,
I’m not sure what names are ending up in the name list. It’s certainly not all
the AKAs. In some instances, an AKA replaces the birth name (the preferred
name that shows on the main family page) in the index. That’s why I was
thinking that the main name for a female was being omitted. It appears that
the name list, instead of being generated from the AKAs, is simply taking one
example of a particular surname with one example of given names, pairing them
together, and moving on to the next surname for the individual. So instead of
“Harrower, Alice Elizabeth” (birth name), I get “Harrower, Alice” or “Bishop,
Alice E.” in my name list — but not also “Harrower, Alice Elizabeth” or
“Bishop, Alice” — which are also names for this individual. In several
instances for men, I found all the AKAs listed — but none of the name birth
names. For other men, the reverse was true — the main birth name ended up in
the index, but the AKAs did not appear.

On the project tab of the Individual Style web page creation, about 1/4th of
the way down is a check box that says Include the main name from each page as
the page's title, followed by two fill in boxes for “Add the title prefix of:”
and “Add the title suffix of:”. If I have this box checked, it overrides
privacy options and a page for a living individual will have their full name
listed at the top of the page.

For that matter, why are webpages for living individuals printing with sources?
