[LegacyUG] Number of People you can have in your file?

Hi all, 
Can anyone tell me if there is a limit on the number of people you can have in 
your file? I currently have over 27,000 and I am afraid I may be running out of 
space. I tend to go pretty far out on the relationship scale. Thanks for any 
help in advance !!

[LegacyUG] Legacy Cloud

Hi, I'm having trouble backing up my program to the Legacy Cloud. It keeps 
telling me my password is rejected. I then checked to make sure I registered 
correctly but it says I'm registered. I have been backing up to the cloud 
before now with no problems, this just started about a week ago. Any clues as 
to what I might have done wrong? I tried just changing the password but that 
didn't work, either even though it said OK, log in from Family Tree.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages
without conversion to attachments should use a different email address
for their subscription.

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require
this conversion include gmail.com and hotmail.com.  Many other email
providers will also work but you will have to give them a try.---Ā BeginĀ MessageĀ ---
Just tried to update to latest version of 9 and when it finished the screen 
just went blank. I tried to reopen and it wouldn't open. Then I rebooted the 
machine and this didn't work either, to open the program. Do I now, need to 
download the whole program again and reinstall? I have the deluxe version of 9.

Nothing seems to be working as far as the media goes. My data is fine,thank
goodness but I had over 12,000 media items
attached.Pictures,census,military and all kinds of vital records. That is
why I needed to move them to an external hard drive as my C drive is only
120 Gigs. But it seems like I didn't do it properly. I thought I could just
move them to the external hard drive and change where Legacy looked for
them but that hasn't worked. It seems like I have all the right locations
listed for it to look in but something is still off. I hadn't done as Cathy
suggested - choose Properties, then the Location tab - but it was too late
for that. I should have asked before I moved things. Thanks all for the
suggestions but does anybody have any more ideas?

Since the last update I am having trouble when setting relationships, the
settings keep reverting back to  "show the closest direct-line relationship
(if any)" it will not say on " show the closest relationship" , is anyone

[LegacyUG] Automatic reset of default settings

Today when I opened my file it gave me a small box that said it was
resetting to default my settings. Why I don't know. I did just do file
maintenance on it yesterday. Today after opening my Family view only
has individuals names listed,no other info such as birth,death,etc but
still does have my pictures. However when you open the individuals
screen all my info is there so I didn't loose it but it doesn't show
up on the Family View. My Index of individuals is also gone
completely. Help, just what did I do wrong and please how can I fix
it??  My backups don't seem to help because as soon as I open it, it
also changes to the current form. Any ideas??
I am using current version 7.5.0.208 the latest I think.

As yet the only problem I have found since this update is at least half my 
photos have disappeared from Legacy, now in the middle of having to reattach 
them, all takes time. Would check all yours didnā€™t realise at first.

I downloaded the latest version .200 and now need to ask. Does anyone else have 
this trouble? When I go to from the family to a particular child, and then 
return to the family the child I looked, is then at the top of the list of the 
children. So out of order of birth. I then tried to sort the order of children. 
It does not work. Only the child I looked at comes on the child list. I then 
close Legacy, and reopen Legacy which seems to solve the problem?

It is not while loading Legacy data, it is while searching for someone's 
completed temple records, I was waiting for the search results and it was 
taking so long (about 10 mins) I tried to cancel the search and move on to

I tried that and it still wouldnā€™t work, so I went into set default programs 
and Adobe had taken over a number of Legacy files so I changed them all back to 
Legacy, now all is back to normal.

I would like to thank everyone for their help without which I wouldn't have had 
the courage to do this.

It's hardly possible to get it wrong!

Right click on the .ged file, click "Open with" and select Legacy.exe. If it's 
not on the list then click Choose default program > Browse - you should find it 
in C:Legacy, if not on the expanded list. Make sure to check the "always use " 
box.

I hope you're not using a gedcom as a backup.  You should use File > Backup 
Family File.

The gedcom doesn't include associated files, changes dates modified and added 
and loses the History list when you import it back into Legacy and changes all 
your SourceWriter sources to the Standard format (since there is no SW format 
for gedcoms)

Gedcoms should only be used when transferring data between different genealogy 
programs, i.e., Legacy to PAF, TMG to Legacy, etc, but *not* from Legacy to 
Legacy.

it has the .ged extension but when you try to open it Adobe takes over?

Hi
My backup location as always been C:\Legacy\Data\ but it has started backing up 
to an external HD I have changed it back to C:\ but it keeps changing back to 
the HD.

Do not worry about the change to an Adobe file. All that means is that Windows 
"thinks" that files with extension .ged should be opened by Adobe. Telling you 
how to change file associations to change this is not really a topic for this 
Legacy Users list. but right click on the backup file and select Open with. If 
you do not see the correct program in the list you can browse for the correct 
program. Note: a GEDCOM file is really a text file so you should associate it 
with a text editor like Notepad.

How are you "changing" the backup location? What is the original location and 
where do you change it to?

[LegacyUG] Backing Up and Exporting Gedcom

Hi

Is anyone else having trouble exporting a gedcom file from Legacy everytime
I try to do this it converts to an adobe file, also since the latest update
I am have trouble backing up my family file, the backup location keeps
changing, I keep resetting it but it just reverts back. Is anyone else have
this trouble.

[LegacyUG] Find A Grave for Legacy

I hope this isn't considered off topic as this is to use with Legacy.
Anyone using Find a Grave for Legacy?? I am trying but it seems as if your
names must follow strict guidelines. In my database I have added a comment
in the suffix field for some. Such as "wife of" if I don't have a last
name. However this seems to throw off the extracting of names for the
purpose of matching them with Find A Grave memorials.
I have too many this way to correct them plus I really find it helpful.

I just looked at my C:\Legacy\Data\ file and I see multiple files.
Some back to a time when I had named the files differently. Can I now
delete these old files as they are redundant,there are quite a few. Or
should I just leave them alone as they really aren't hurting anything

Thanks again,but I finally gave up and set it back to default which worked
but I also lost my other customization settings. Now if I can just remember
how I had my other settings. That's why I didn't want to go back to default.

[LegacyUG] Customizing colors

Hi all, please help! I was attempting to customize the colors and made
several changes and checked them out. Then back and forth several times
changing things. Now the connection to change the colors won't open. Program
just locks up and I have to close it. This seems to be the only thing
affected otherwise the program is still working if I reopen it. Now I have a
very ugly screen as I was experimenting.

[LegacyUG] Legacy update

Hi,

Thanks everyone, tried everything, now got the BEPSC in the index, also the 
reports, BUT still not got them in the NAME LIST and am finding it very 
annoying. Maybe it is a change made in the update, I am sure things will be 
better once all the teething troubles are ironed out, but at the moment I am 
very disappointed with the way it is working, I have spent all week just 
sorting things out, when I first download the update it lost ALL my family 
records, luckily I had back ups, so please be careful people.

All I want to do is family history and I seem to be turning into a computer 
geek.

I have just done the latest update, and now I cant get BEPSC  records on the 
NAME LIST,  has this been done away with in the update??? Can anyone help.
