If you Google TNG Genealogy the first answer is:

some great tutorials that will take you through it. And you can choose from
about 15 templates to get the look you want. Should you ever wish to customize
the template, there are many ways to do so, or you can easily find someone on

Hi Ian

Restricting the webpages will have to be done either through a piece of code on
your website (not very safe or efficient) or by using .htaccess, which will
depend on what web hosting site you are using. I usually create a CD with the
webpages on it and use autorun code so that my non-computer literate relatives
can just stick the CD in and it will run.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Web page creation

Is there a step by step instruction set to create a web presence with Legacy?

I have a TNG site up but have no clue how to manage it and am far too slow to
remember the basics. I want to be able to just upload my data to a restricted
web page, set permissions and then sleep until the next update is created.

2017-07-25 Thread Ian Macaulay
Sorry, I may have misled, I want to use legacy and not TNG, I already
have a TNG site and I can never remember how to use it.
I was hoping that Legacy had a method to upload directly to a web site.

Joanne and Ian,

That's what TNG is all about! Basically, you simply upload your gedcom and
you're in business. Yes, you need to make a couple decisions then, but TNG
has some great tutorials that will take you through it. And you can choose
from about 15 templates to get the look you want. Should you ever wish to
customize the template, there are many ways to do so, or you can easily
find someone on the TNG Users group or TNG Forum who will do it for you for
a modest cost.

Can someone please mail me the email of this group?

Also I would still like to meet up with willing participants that want to from
a user group in Cleveland, Ohio.

in this group though. There is one user who has a lot of great information

Maybe he will reply. It's been so long if have to go to my personal

[LegacyUG] Web Page Creation

2012-11-25 Thread Richard Falzini
Hello,
I currently am having an issue with my web page creation...
When I go to the web creation, and I click the link tab I have the option to
make custom headers and custom footers.

To make these you have to apply some basic html which I know how to do.

But, when I have the html codes in place and I generate my new page and then
preview it in my browser my new headers and footers do not appear?

Can some one tell me am I missing a step in doing this?

I would greatly appreciate any help regarding this subject

Thanks

Yes I have checked the boxes, and in the header I tried to place HTML for a

I then tried to create a new version of my site. When I previewed it, the newly
added HTML was not there.

Gonna try to work more on it tomorrow.

I appreciate any advice you can give.

[LegacyUG] Web page creation performance

2012-02-14 Thread Tony Rolfe
I've just done a little experiment creating web pages from Legacy. The
results might be of interest.

First I created the web pages onto D:\genealogy\Web (a regular
mechanical hard disk) and copied them to C:\Legacy\Web (a solid state
disk). Then I recreated exactly the same web pages and timed from
clicking the There are already web pages here do you want to delete
them? to the Web pages successfully created requester.

So. To the HDD, when I said Yes to the deleting, it took 1 minute and
20 seconds to actually delete the old files and 2 minutes 15 seconds to
create the new. 3 minutes 35 secs total

To the SSD, it also took 1 minute 20 to actually delete the files (which
surprised me) but only 2 minutes and 5 seconds to create the pages. 3
minutes 25 total. Basically, having a SSD doesn't make much difference.

Most of the delete time is Windows 7 sitting on the Preparing to
delete phase. Actual deletion takes a few seconds.

When I said No, it took 2 mins exactly to create the files while
deleting the old ones on the fly, regardless of whether I used the SSD
or the HDD. Less than when I said Yes to the delete.

The conclusion is that you should only delete all the old files first if
you are worried that there may be some pages for folk who are no longer
in the DB. Otherwise it is just a waste of time.

Cheers

Tony

Re: [LegacyUG] Web page creation

2010-04-19 Thread Wendy Howard
Hi Brian,

I am looking for basic info on the web page creation feature. When I create a
web page using Legacy and save it,do I then download to an online server or
creation site.Don't know if I am explaining this right, does the Legacy web
page creation feature automatically place your data on a web page or do I
need something else to put it on the web?

Legacy will create the web pages and save them on your computer. What
you choose to do after that is up to you. :-)

If you want to put them on the web for others to find, you need to
upload the pages to a server that does that. Choices to make there, too
- are you going to pay an ISP to host your site, or use a free one?

As you can see from my signature below, I use Rootsweb's Freepages for
my web site. I don't have Legacy-produced pages there, but I could if I
wanted.

Not only is Freepages free, but there's good peer-to-peer support to be
had, too, so you're not alone when you have a question.

http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index.cgi?op=showpage=freagree.htm

You may also want to make use of the WUL group (Webs Using Legacy, if
I recall correctly) if you find your questions going beyond the creating
of the pages with Legacy. http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/

Although I don't have Legacy-produced web pages on my site, I have made
use of them today. I've generated a set of pages for one half of my
family, and burned them to a DVD to share with two aunts. I find this
the easiest method for sharing my data with close family, who want to
know everything I've found out about the family we have in common. In
the past I've tried sending them a Legacy file for them to use in the
free edition of the program, but they didn't want to be that involved
and didn't use it. The web pages are excellent for that. They know how
to browse a web page, so I don't have to teach them anything.

Hope this helps. :-)

Kind Regards,
Wendy Howard

[LegacyUG] Web page creation issues

Starting from scratch:

   1. Can access to web pages be controlled, or are they open to everyone?
   2. Where do the web pages appear online?
   3. Are they simple to create and maintain/update?

Thanks

Re: [LegacyUG] Web page creation issues

2010-03-02 Thread Ron Ferguson
Dennis,

Everyone of your questions can have any answer you wish. You posted this
email in html, which is the language of web pages, so you found this easy
enough to do grin (btw. plain text is requested on this list). Depending
on what you want it can also be extremely complex.

Web pages appear in a user's browser, they are stored on a site arranged by
the web developer, which may be free or paid for.

You can have them open to all, or closed, depends on how you do it and what
is available from your web host.

It is easy enough to create a web site on your PC. In Legacy use
InternetCreate Webpages. I recommend that you do this using a small number
of individuals and have a good play to see how they work. You will find a
whole load of stuff about doing this on my website at
http://fergys.co.uk/Blogs/WebPge.php et al.

When you have had a play, or if you hit problems, I suggest that you join
WUL, a self-help group aimed at helping Legacy Users create web pages. It is
a Yahoo Group and can be found at http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/

Hope this helps a little!

Ron
