Thelma,

You can use Legacy Check/Repair in Safe Mode and see if that helps.
Or sometimes just using the Legacy Compact File before the Check/Repair is
enough.

If you have Microsoft Access (it's part of Office 365) you can open your fdb
file in Access and use Database Tools > Compact and Repair Database

Then open the file in Legacy and Check/Repair the file. It likely will no
longer have the error.

Your Legacy database is an Access database.
The Legacy Check/Repair does more specific things than the Access Compact and
Repair.

Re: [LegacyUG] Error 3035 - Exceeding resources

2020-03-05 Thread Bob Austen
Hi Loren,

I have not tried doing File Maintenance in Safe Mode. Hopefully that will work.

After more research I found info on-line… the ‘Exceeding System Resources’ is a
knowna Microsoft Access issue. The following is a possible fix for the brave.
It would be best for most to look up this info and follow the online procedures
IF you have computer knowledge.

The fix may be…

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/how-do-i-prevent-run-time-error-3035-system/49b66089-4486-4a83-94e2-13eced66d686

Problem solved! Here’s what happened: In addition to error 3035, I was
sometimes getting error 3052 – File sharing lock count exceeded. The Help
utility recommended that I fix this problem by increasing the MaxLocksPerFile
registry entry which could be accomplished in VBA. To do this I inserted the
following line of code in the “form load” procedure of the form that was
getting the error messages:

DAO.DBEngine.SetOption dbMaxLocksPerFile, 100

This sets the register’s value to one million. I then loaded the form to
execute the statement, exited Access and restarted my computer. Since then I
haven’t had any 3035 or 3052 errors! In my case it seems that both error 3035
and error 3052 were fixed by increasing the MaxLocksPerFile registry entry.

Regards,

Bob

Technical support suggested that I reboot in safe mode every month or two in

Just out of curiosity (And a bit of panic) How large is your file? If you
do not redo your preferences does it still give you the error?
There is a method of copying the preferences for a quick reload.

[LegacyUG] Error 3035 - Exceeding resources

2020-03-05 Thread Thelma Martin

Can anyone help me?

I have started getting Error 3035 - exceeding resources when I do a file
maintenance. I am using Windows 10 and have the latest build for Legacy.

In looking up this error I get instructions to uninstall Legacy and then
reinstall.
I have now done this twice. Each time I did this I had to redo all my
preferences. Then I was able to do file maintenance one time. The next
time I tried and the same error comes up.

Re: [LegacyUG] Error 3035 during Check-Repair Build 9.0.0.318

2019-10-07 Thread Ian Thomas
Perhaps it is a “bad sector” on your computer’s hard disk? I would scan the
disk using Windows – File Explorer, select the C: Drive (that is where most
Legacy things are hosted), right click, select Properties (bottom item in the
menu), Tools (tab), and click the Check button.
It is unlikely that the .fdb file would be larger than 2GB – but after in
Legacy - backup, check/repair – I sometimes also select Compact file.

Hi

Legacy support site says We are uncertain as to the causes of "3035: System
resource exceeded", which is not that useful.

However, there are known issues with Access, which Legacy uses for its
database, relating to 'System resource exceeded'. One limitation is the size,
physical, of the .fdb files, which must not exceed 2GB, but would probably
error if somewhat smaller. I have also seen a fix which involved limiting the
number of CPUs that Access is using, but I am not aware if that relates to the
Legacy app or an imbedded part of the system. Part of the problem is that the
causes are variable which makes it difficult to resolve.

Has anyone else had problems with the Check-Repair routine using the latest
release Legacy 9.0 Build 318.

I repeatedly get a “ Run Time Error ‘3035 System resource exceeded “message at
Step 65 of 219 of Check-Repair and was wondering if anyone else was
experiencing similar.

I tried uninstalling Legacy and re-installing (as recommended for this error
message) and running check-repair on the same Family file but again received
the same error message.

I also tried exporting my family file to a new Legacy database and running
Check-Repair on that, again without success.

However, on a different computer (with less resources, ie CPU and Memory, but
with the same version of Windows 10 with latest updates), I ran check-repair
using Legacy Version 9.0.0.301 (ie the previous release) on the same family
files (as above) and check-repair completed successfully in both cases.

Also restored a back-up of my family file taken immediately prior to updating
to Build 9.0.0.318. Running check repair on this file using Version 9.0.0.318
again failed at the same point, but successfully completed using 9.0.0.301.

2019-10-07 Thread Brian Kelly
I have not had any problems with my file in Build 318 but mine is much
smaller than yours.
Sorry, original message has a mix of your details and mine. Here are
correct numbers from my file:

My Family File details:
Number of Individuals: 6960
Number of Families: 2321

One thing you might try, if you have not already done so, is to run
check repair on the file using 318 after it was run successfully using 301.

[LegacyUG] Error 3035 during Check-Repair Build 9.0.0.318

2019-10-07 Thread Alan Thompson
Has anyone else had problems with the Check-Repair routine using the latest
release Legacy 9.0 Build 318.

I repeatedly get a " Run Time Error '3035 System resource exceeded "message
at Step 65 of 219 of Check-Repair and was wondering if anyone else was
experiencing similar.

I tried uninstalling Legacy and re-installing (as recommended for this error
message) and running check-repair on the same Family file but again received
the same error message.

I also tried exporting my family file to a new Legacy database and running
Check-Repair on that, again without success.

However, on a different computer (with less resources, ie CPU and Memory,
but with the same version of Windows 10 with latest updates), I ran
check-repair using Legacy Version 9.0.0.301 (ie the previous release) on the
same family files (as above) and check-repair completed successfully in both
cases.

Also restored a back-up of my family file taken immediately prior to
updating to Build 9.0.0.318. Running check repair on this file using Version
9.0.0.318 again failed at the same point, but successfully completed using
9.0.0.301.

My Family File details:

Number of Individuals: 143931

Number of Families: 44941

Master locations: 20761

Master Sources: 1245

Citations: 759965

Master events: 197212

used by individuals: 196591

used by marriages: 621

Master media items: 73894

times linked: 303918

I have reported this problem to support.

Ok, now I am worried. I restored from the last 5 backups and they all
still get error 3035 when I run check repair so it was not the crash
that caused the problem. I can't say when the last time I ran
check/repair but obviously should have been running it more frequently.
I don't want to export to a gedcom and lose my sourcewriter sources. I
have worked very hard to have the sources look the way I want. Any other
 ideas?

drastic as I have a backup and have just done piddly little things since
the backup but I wondered if there was anything easy I haven't tried.
