there are quite some defaults for PageDescs hardcoded in the UNO wrapper layer
(including e.g. the 2 cm borders etc.). A cleaner approach would be to have the
core objects have a functions that sets up default on initialisation or when
reset and have the UNO wrapper just trigger that instead of duplicating
hardcoded defaults.

A tiny file with a text box with the font chess merida showing a chess board.

Till version 4.4.7 the bug is absent. One needs to have the chess font chess
Mérida installed (http://www.enpassant.dk/chess/fontimg/merida.htm). Some
characters are messed up now since LO 5. Before a proper chess board was
visible. Appeared on Windows 7 and 10.

I copied columns in your test file and tested again  / sort A:AP, sort two
columns. No crash.
Please attach test file which crash in dev version. We need example to verify.
Please note that the attachment will be public, remove any sensitive
information before attaching it.

I probably could. However, apart from me having to learn how to do it, you can

This is really strange. The Metafile is broken, but what the current importer
does is dangerous from my point of view:
- The Stream is in read/write mode, it should be in read-only mode. If forcing
to read-only, the too-big seek leads to seeking back to start of file, importer
ends at least without crash. Is it really intended that seking beyond EOF in a
read-only file resets to start of file?
- When keeping read/write, the seek does not go to EOF, but tries to extend the
file to the needed size. Can this be intended? It is basically *very*
dangerous, can lead to crashes like this and can evetually be used to
infiltrate code/pages (security?).
I do not dare to change stuff in SvStream, but can at least seek to EOF when a
seek beyond the file length is intended in ~VersionCompat. Trying that...

Sorry, talking about the more common Symbola public domain font by George
Douros and the Unicode Fonts for Ancient Scripts project.

updates for Unicode 8.0, covering 7,890 codepoints

SMP codepoint coverage similar to MS Segoe UI Symbol so useful cross platform.

I preferred the old save icon too.
but there are probably some reasons that moved the developers to modify it and
bring the new one.

however I think that nothing prevents us for asking to have both, so that users
could choose the saving icon they prefer.

maybe an extension could be created to do that and simulate the old one.
let's file this as an enhancement request, so I change the summary lines.

@UX-team
the new file save icon proved to be a little controversial, since there are
many reports of user complaining about it.

my idea as I wrote in previous line is to bring back the "old save icon action
box" and keep the "new save icon dropbown button" in order to let the user
choose which one it prefers.

I suppose that it should not be too difficult to restore the code about the old
button without replacing the new one.

we could have two "save icons" with slightly different functions but that would
please everyone

The .uno:Save command is bound to multiple actions GUI and keyboard, the .uno
action for the split button on the Standard toolbar would need the adjustment
not the other way around.

That said, I see little need for providing alternative to the new stateful
split button for toolbar customization--and do not want to see the Standard
toolbar visible buttons list cluttered with additional inactive buttons.  

IMHO current UI Menu/accelerator and general/module specific keyboard shortcut
actions remain sufficient.

On pc Debian x86-64 with LO Debian package 5.1.1.3, no crash but formulaes 2,
3, 4, 5 and 6 are invisible at the opening (and visible after having applied
the workaround described by the reporter).

On pc Debian x86-64 with master sources updated today, no crash and all
formulaes visible at the opening.

This is not fixed in 5.1. It might default to being docked next to the
formatting toolbar, but the user could always just dock the bar anyhow.

The issue therefore remains: a (in my opinion useless) navigation toolbar
appears each time certain actions (like inserting a footnote) are taken. Even
once the user closes it, it simply appears again.

Yes, as you are creating a CTL document in Arabic (UAE) when you copy/paste
content you are pasting into a paragraph with CTL layout RLTB.

You should be able to select language for paragraph from the status bar, at
bottom of Writer frame. Choose English (USA) for the paragraph that will hold
the pasted content.  Does that result in LRTB and alignment left? 

Are the paragraph styles for each paragraph of pasted text all still set to
English (USA)?

If so, "Save" to ODF .odt, and then also "Save as" to OOXML .docx.

Open the OOXML .docx--are the pasted paragraphs still aligned LRTB?

If so, problem solved--you just had to correctly assign a language--other than
your default Arabic (UAE)--to each paragraph.  

If not there *is* a bug in the export/import filter for OOXML.

Hello Kyle,

Thank you for reporting the bug. I've tested the file you provided. You said it
"does not render correctly" but what do you mean by that? Could you be more
clear? maybe provide some screenshots showing the difference.

For me I had to change the font before I be able to see the characters in pre
format on Windows, it displayed OK in Linux.

I have set the bug's status to 'NEEDINFO'. Please change it back to
'UNCONFIRMED' once the requested info is provided.

Since PageBackground works, I can exclude
7d9bb549d498d6beed2c4050c402d09643febdfa.
Nonetheless, all attributes for PageBorder are not set (get lost), after
re-opening dialog all values are gone. This usually means that in-between
somewhere the SfxItems are lost at setting these values (do not make it to the
Writer Page Model data). HTH!

Oh great. This isn't a new feature wanted, just the provision of a previous
functionality made more difficulty by the introduction of the new feature of
the 'split button.' The original functionality of the old 'File Save As' button
was left in place while the easier to use 'File Save' button was removed.

Well, if they won't return the previous one click 'File Save' button, please do
not mess if with the old 'File Save as' button, because today I found it was
safer to go through the wasting of time of to use the extra step and click of
the old 'File Save as' button to put up with the problems created by using the
'File Save' split-button which is a decrease in ease of use functionality.

I could not reproduce the crash using v5.2.0.0.alpha0+ running under win10 pro.
 v5.2.0.0.alpha0+ exhibits another problem making it not usable for my on going
work.   For now, I'll stick with 4.4.7.2 x86 for that purpose.  I'll generate a
separate bug report for what I found wrong with v5.2.0.0.alpha0+, to help the
dev team if they are not already aware of the particular problem.

We have some movement on this, yea!

Oliver S. is reworking code for the bug 63211 patch, to restore support for
linked images in the HTML as user prefers, while keeping base-64 encoding for
mail merge support.

I'd like to suggest we use Ctrl + Alt as the Fn key with the combinations i
mentioned in comment 2. Old combinations (e.g. F11) would supplement these

My first comment here because this bug really is annoying, sorry folks!
Calc is not aimed to beginners anyway, so after years using it that's my list
of features for searching in Calc:


1- The "More options" button should be removed
2- Search in all sheets should be default for all searches.
3- Easy search to have a checkbox to limit search to one sheet globally saved

Maybe the best way is to put all these options in the preferences panel so the
"More options" options would be saved globally. 

Today advanced search falls back to one sheet after quit/reopen the program, so
it's really easy to forget your options. If Libreoffice was open before then
you already changed the options, but if not, you have to change it again.

The print preview shows landscape.

Print -> Options 3 checkbox unchecked for "Use only paper size from printer
preferences" as are the other two checkboxes.

Insert photo to minimize

The Impress tool "minimize presentation" don't work in this condition:

- when i insert the photo by new presentation sheet (see in the attachment).
When the tool try to remove the original image after compression they was
locked, i think (only image inserted by a button in the center of a new sheet).

else, if i paste photo from memory or use "image" button or in menù
"insert/image" the compression work correctly.

Make sure the Locale setting is indeed German, not just the UI language. Also

A while back, when I first updated to LibreOffice 4.4, I was incredibly happy
with the out-of-the-box visual experience. It was promised to be “the most
beautiful LibreOffice ever”, and it totally was. The chief distinction, as
described in the announcement: “The Sifr monochrome icon theme is extended and
now the default on OS X.”

Then I updated to LibreOffice 5, and it wasn’t beautiful anymore. Breeze has
replaced Sifr as the default, and it really, really doesn’t work.

When the decision was originally made to switch away from Sifr, there was
concern at the time about how Breeze looked on OS X:

I understand there may be something missing from the Sifr icon set, and work is
being done to fix it. This request is simply that, when ready, it be made the

In earlier version (I think 5.1.0) LO on Windows showed ligatures in OpenType
fonts… in 5.1.3 this behavior disappeared again.

Ligatures in the few Graphite fonts do work as expected.

If Image is exported to TIFF the resulting image has resolution x: 0,017
pixel/inch and y: 0,167 pixel/inch.
Resolution should be 96 pixel/inch for both, x and y.

Also, the amount of pixels of the image drops to one third, e.g. from 1000 to
350.

I know how to customise the toolbar, and have heavily customised the one in the
screenshot. I've saved a screenshot before I saved the file, a second having
saved the file. And I now go and save one with the drop-down list open and

I have checked all metafiles contained (only in replacement objects) and
removjhed 'Object 4', but when loading the document there is also a metafile
coming up with an action '53434' which also crashes. Need to check where that
file comes from...

This is what happens to me on Linux with 4.4 to 5.1 and master, but doesnt
happen on those same version on Windows, which makes me believe the curl maybe
the cause of this https issue. @Giuseppe, @Cloph: Can you check on this?

click on "Tools/Options/View/Icon size" and choose "small"

@Samuel
the new save icons takes more space than the old one since there's the dropdown
triangle next to it... it takes the space of 1 and 1/2 normal button.

so I suppose that those extra pixels may cause annoyance in netbooks with small
screen and moreover it may happen that the user clicks on the triangle instead
of the icon.

having said that, I think that the best thing would be to have both "save
button" methods in LibO. user could easily customize their toolbars with the
one they prefer to use.

When doing insert a header or footer, "Apply" applies it to a single slide,
whilst "apply to all" applies it to every slide in the presentation (only
exception is if "do not show on first slide"

Steps to Reproduce:
1. create n-slides
2. select some slides
3. insert header or footer
4. click on apply or apply to all

Actual Results:  
there is no way of adding a footer to a selection of slides. 
Workaround is to add a footer to each slide individually
