If you've got a really good EE brain, it's a matter of dropping in a
brighter bulb, wiring in the power converter and electronics to handle it,
modifying the case to hold it all (maybe not if you can squeeze it in),
and
off you go.

I'm sure this is what the company I contacted said they did. If THEY did
it, we should... or NEIL should be able to figure out how to do it!

Oh $DEITY, now I've become an icon. Hey, the impossible I do at once,
miracles take till at least thursday.

The only way you can make a transmissive system brighter is to get more
light through it. If the outside light is massively brighter than the
screen, you won't see anything - the extra light reflects off the front of
the screen with enough energy to swamp the transmitted light. I'd guess than
any front filter would work to reduce reflection.

I have difficulties seeing how a reflective filter *behind* the image layer
would work - if it's supposed to be reflecting sunlight back then the only
way for that light to get there in the first place is through the front of
the screen, where it has all sorts of chances to reflect and flare.

Maybe we should try cutting a hole in the lid and positioning a small
reflector to shine neat sunshine in through the back?

The RS inverter with enough power for a piece big enough for the screen
is about an inch cube. I'd *really really really* want it to go inside...

According to RS, the smallest one (5v 175Hz, seems small enough to fit in
the case or perhaps in a little bulge out the side) can drive 30cm^2 ...
isn't that plenty?

The lib screen is around 100cm^2 - more for the 100+. But an earlier note
(from David Chien?) pointed out the present output light is about 100cd -
about twice what the film produces.

 Hi there, Christian.

Will your patch work under RH v7.1 Linux?

RH, Mdk or other distribution.
Only select the patch that match your kernel version:
 2.02
This version of driver applies to kernel 2.4.10 and above.
Version 2.01 was for kernel 2.4.0 to 2.4.6
Version 2.00 was for the pre-releases of kernel 2.4.0
  For kernels 2.0.x, 2.1.x, 2.2.x, please use version 1.03
I have compiled it on 2.2.18 for Smoothwall,
I have a source tree of 2.2.19 (for Smoothwall), and I can make it, if somebody asks me

For older versions, see:
http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/kernel/pcmcia/contrib/
floppy_cs-1.02.tar.gz 03-Feb-1999 00:0020k GZIP compressed document
floppy_cs-1.03.tar.gz 07-Nov-2000 18:2721k GZIP compressed document
floppy_cs-2.00.tar.gz 07-Nov-2000 18:2720k GZIP compressed document
floppy_cs-2.01.tar.gz 16-Jan-2001 03:3420k GZIP compressed document
For the new versions, see:
http://libxg.free.fr/floppy/
floppy_cs-201.tgz 22-Jan-2001 11:4120k
floppy_cs-202.tgz 25-Sep-2001 21:2820k

And if so, is there a kind of manual that describes how I can put the
 patches into my RH7.1, I'm a techie but not a real C-junkie.

See the README file in the tgz archive.

I can't say I know if the Libretto can or can't handle the extra RAM but I wonder if
its possible to add RAM through the PCMCIA port (like you could the older 386/486
laptops). Alternatively, perhaps a fast ATA RAM card can be put in the PCMCIA slot
(which would look like a hard drive to Windows) and the swapfile moved over to it (but
then again I've got no idea how fast those ATA cards are compared to the internal hard
drive ...)

 Windows-M will minimize all

Subject: Re: Caps.Lock+Num.Lock indicator utility (was: RE: Key

Well, I think I have a solution to the Taskbar menu keyboard shortcut thing.
Hope it works for everyone who is interested.
Check it out and let me know.

Reading through all the thoughts and comments (thanks everyone for your
efforts and suggestions!) and playing around a whole lot more, it seemed to
me there was something going on which was difficult to predict.

The following both worked for me *sometimes* (Windows'98 with Autohide
enabled on the Start Menu):-

 - WindowsKey + Tab
 - Tab
 - ContextMenuKey
 - E (to tile vErtically) or H (to tile Horizontally)

OR

 - WindowsKey (or Ctrl+Esc)
 - Escape
 - Tab
 - ContextMenuKey
 - E (to tile vErtically) or H (to tile Horizontally)

...but sometimes they only worked at the second CONSECUTIVE attempt.
I found that if the first attempt failed, then I returned the focus to an
application, the next attemp would also fail.
However, if I tried, didn't succeed, then tried again IMMEDIATELY - it then
seemed to work without fail.
The 'failure' was always the same - the Taskbar would loose the focus at the
Tab step.

SO!!! Lateral thinking cap on, and...
Here It Is - works every time for me!!!

 - WindowsKey + Tab
 - WindowsKey
 - Escape
 - Tab
 - ContextMenuKey
 - E (to tile vErtically) or H (to tile Horizontally)

Yeehaa! ...well, every time so far... ;-)
Not exactly super-elegant, I know.
But it's impressing the hell out of the girl sitting next to me in the
Internet cafe! (She was already looking pretty incredulous after watching me
hook up the Libretto...)
I ended up having to explain what it was all about, and one of the messages
from Pres was open in Outlook Express while I was demonstrating with the
keyboard. Maybe she'll be back tomorrow in a miniskirt, eh?

Sincerely... Steve

Hello

The list is currently running on SVLIst mailing list software. This
has worked out well so far but it seems this whole unsubscribe thing
  if a problem.

If anyone has some suggestions I am always open to try things out. I
can remove the need for the cmd: part which means if you put
unsubscribe in the subject you will get unsubscribed. This is a
little more dangerous for people who want to post about that but it
will certainly make it easier for many who have been having
  problems.

As always any suggestions are welcome...

Power has always been an issue on the Libs. One of the ways to save power
under windows is by changing the config in the Power Saver utility.

Start-Settings-Control Panel-Power Saver

If you bring that up, you will see some rather bad graphics of lightbulbs
with rays shooting out of them. If you select Show power mode on the
taskbar you will see a much smaller version of the same graphic on your
taskbar. It is so small there that it looks like a lightbulb that has hair
growing out of it.

And, just to stem the tide of requests for the others:

 - Unscribble
This list is easy to unsubscribe from - if you follow the directions
EXACTLY. If you don't follow the directions, you send an email to the
group which demonstrates your mistake to everyone. Unscribble is the
funniest example of someone screwing it up.

 - Miniskirts
This is the final subject of a thread that had so many tangents that it
was continued simply for the fun of it. If I remember correctly, some
list member's wardrobe was questioned... I leave discovering the
identity as an exercise to the reader (although raybot can probably
   help!)

Man! I love this list!

ObLib: My 110 is 3 years old this month. Still use her ('Ophelia' as a
prior thread would tell you) everyday. Four linux installs, two
windows installs and currently running Win98 and RedHat6.2. I'm
about to try a NetBSD install - anyone with experience? I would
like to find a way to boot and install without a floppy or CD - as
I have for all the others...

Can it do an autoreply (doubling as an unsubscribe autoresponse) to anyone
who is unsubscribed telling them something like, We have received your
e-mail containing 'unsubscribe' in the subject line. You have been
unsubscribed from the Libretto list...?

That way people wouldn't accidentally unsubscribe themselves and not be
notified (especially new users in the future that will never read this
thread). (Note: I haven't unsubscribed in a long time, so I don't remember
if there already is an autoresponse for this.)

And/or you could put a line in the standard footer clearly indicating that
unsubscribe anywhere in the subject will result in an unsubscribe. You
would probably do that anyway (duh), but it would be cool to do both--the
unsubscribe autoresponse and the notice in the footer.

that unsubscribble problem (because its more tolerant of misformed commands although
you still DO have to spell it right ;-) but since this one is already well established
its probably too hard or impractical to switch it ...

OT: I finally found a Windows text editor (mmonths and months ago) with
RegExp support--that made me s happy.

Whats the editor called? (I'm guessing if it made you so happy you must still be using
it ...)

My server is down at the moment (getting a new kernel) but I'd be happy to
host it.
I have majordomo.
