[Linux-PowerEdge] Smartd and JBoss controller

2020-12-11 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT

[EXTERNAL EMAIL]

Hi,

The new PowerEdge includes a JBoss RAID controller for 2 small PCI SSDs
in RAID 1.

I would like to run smartd on these SSDs, but I haven't found out how to
configure smartctl on them.

Is it possible?

Thank you in advance.

Yours sincerely.

Re: [Linux-PowerEdge] BIOS legacy boot with BOSS controller card

2020-05-29 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT

[EXTERNAL EMAIL]

Hi,

We use Proxmox here (Debian based) in UEFI boot mode : works perfectly.

I'm quite sure you must configure your BIOS for UEFI, if you have iDRAC
with SD card, you can upload the Debian ISO on this card and boot on it
via the iDRAC console. Few stuff to configure before booting on this ISO.

Regards.

[Linux-PowerEdge] DSU catalog and DSU for Debian.

2018-05-01 Thread Jean-Daniel Tissot

Hi Sashi, hi Dell team, hi list,

It's certainly a stupid question, but why update the DSU catalog only once a
month?
Most Linux distributions update their repositories whenever necessary,
especially when they find patches for security vulnerabilities.
Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities need fixes quickly but of course correctly
tested.
Making patches available only once a month like Microsoft, Adobe or Oracle for
example, is it a good idea?
Would not it be wise to have a higher frequency (once a week)?

On the other hand, most of our servers are under Debian, I have not managed to
use DSU successfully on these servers. I have browsed part of the documentation
concerning DSU without finding how to install and use it  (I have of course
downloaded the catalog for Ubuntu). Is it compatible with Debian?
The only solution we have is to restart our servers under Lifecycle to see if
new firmwares are available and thus making our services unavailable for a
significant time. On our server under CentOS, I can test if firmware updates
are available and scheduled at a time more conducive to these updates.

Any help would be welcome.

Kind regards.

[Linux-PowerEdge] Debian Stretch DSU and OMSA was ubuntu vs dsu

2018-02-28 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi Sashi,

Trying to install Dell System Update on a PE R420 running Debian
Stretch. installation was successful.
But launching dsu failed with missing libraries libssl.so.1.0.0 and
libcrypto.so.1.0.0.
I try to make symbolic links :
libssl.so.1.0.0 -> libssl.so.1.0.2 (I have the choice between 1.0.2 and 1.1)
libcrypto.so.1.0.0 -> libcrypto.so.1.0.2 (I have the choice between
1.0.2 and 1.1)
But it failed again with mismatch version of OPENSSL :

dsu: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0: version `OPENSSL_1.0.1' not
found (required by /usr/lib/dsulib/libcurl.so.4)
dsu: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0: version `OPENSSL_1.0.0' not
found (required by /usr/lib/dsulib/libcurl.so.4)
dsu: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0: version `OPENSSL_1.0.0' not
found (required by /usr/lib/dsulib/libcurl.so.4)

Could you provides needed libraries in your packages in /usr/lib/dsulib ?

It will be nice to have dsu running on Debian too.

Trying on Debian Jessie, installation was successful too, but running
dsu failed with error :

root@chrono-xen:~ # dsu

Copyright (C) 2014 DELL EMC Proprietary.
Verifying catalog installation ...
Installing catalog from repository ...
Fetching dsucatalog ...
Could not download the catalog. Please check the configuration
Exiting DSU!

How to configure dsu on Debian Jessie ?

But more important, Stretch has been available from June 2017 and we are
waiting for a DSU and OMSA running on the current version of this
operating system. On this mailing list I'm not alone to wait for theses
packages.
How can we help ?

Thanks in advance.

Regards Jean-Daniel.

It's not very good for us to stop ours servers and test with Lifecycle to know
if ours firmwares are up to date

DSU will help us to check if we need to update something in ours servers.

Please help us to have a good experience of Dell servers on others OS.
Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Good news for Red Hat or CentOS  admin (I have only one server with CentOS).

Do you plan to develop DSU for Debian / Ubuntu (I have many servers on Debian
or Proxmox and I'm surely not the only one) ?

Re: [Linux-PowerEdge] Perc H700 firmware upgrade Debian

2016-05-24 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
There is another way, we use box to download ISO.

For example https://dell.app.box.com/v/bootabler410 for a R410 and maybe T410
Just change the number to correspond to your server. I use it for R410, R420,
R710 and R720.

Later Dell will certainly provide DSU for maintaining Firmware up-to-date, I
remember later in 2016. So.

For us to, Debian is more important, but we have no choice in our
administration to choose the vendors.

Hi,

If you have a iDRAC Enterprise, you can boot on Life Cycle to upgrade your
firmware.
I am on Debian too and as DLR is no more supported by Dell, there is no simple

Re: [Linux-PowerEdge] Debian DLR packages was OMSA 8.3 for Ubuntu lacks racadm tools

2016-05-11 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi Soorej,

Unfortunately DSU is not yet available for Debian or Ubuntu.
As long as I know, even the docker file is not able to upgrade firmware, but
maybe new version of the DSU container permit that ?
So I need to verify my firmware one a week without stopping my VMs to enter
Life Cycle process.

[Linux-PowerEdge] Missing description in package dell-ie-idrac7

2016-05-11 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi Dell packagers,

On Debian, I have a not very important issue but which can be certainly
corrected by packagers :
warning: parsing file '/var/lib/dpkg/status' near line 16730 package
'dell-ie-idrac7': missing description
It's make noise on my output of batch files. Yes, I known that I can use grep
-v but it will be nice that this small problem is corrected.

Regards,
Jean-Daniel

Hi Chandra,

Thanks, I had found all I need for OMSA 8.3 and it works for me.
But where can I find DLR package to have update_firmware command available ?

I explore repository without found any packages related to DLR.
Are they in
http://linux.dell.com/repo/community/debian/pool/jessie/openmanage/830/OMSA/suppl/
 ?

Regards,

[Linux-PowerEdge] Yet another question for Debian

2016-05-10 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi,

I use the procedure that Claudio Cesar Sanchez Tejeda posted (Mon, 12 Nov 2012
13:40:06 -0300) in this list for having firmwares up-to-date.
I need some packages to have update_firmware functioning. To get it I need to do
apt-get install libsmbios python-smbios smbios-utils
apt-get install dell-ft-ie-interface firmware-addon-dell firmware-extract
firmware-tools libsmal0
apt-get install dell-ie-bios dell-ie-nic-intel dell-ie-idrac7
dell-ie-nic-qlogic dell-ie-nitrogen dell-ie-maser dell-ie-oxygen \
dell-ie-maser-diags dell-ie-pcissd dell-ie-maser-dp dell-ie-ps
dell-ie-maser-inv-lcl dell-ie-rac-5 dell-ie-maser-usc \
dell-ie-sas dell-ie-nic-broadcom dell-ie-tape-ibm dell-ie-nic-emulex
dell-ie-tape-quantum

for firmware in $(bootstrap_firmware -a); do apt-get install $firmware; done

But on a freshly reinstalled R410 with Debian / Jessie, I can't any-more find
these packages.
I have successfully installed OMSA 8.3, but as long as DSU is not ported to
Debian / Ubuntu, I have to use the old DLR.

Is there anyone which solve this problem ?

Thanks in advance.

Kind Regards,
Jean-Daniel.

Re: [Linux-PowerEdge] OMSA for Debian / Ubuntu

2016-05-04 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Another stuff very strange, you add some users in
/opt/dell/srvadmin/etc/omarolemap as administrators it's doesn't work as long
as you don't change the file mode to at least 640.
If others as right to read the file, additional users as considered as User not
Admin.
It's must be corrected by Dell.

Re: [Linux-PowerEdge] latest link changed - now pointing to DSU

2016-04-26 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi Soorej,

What about Debian-like OS ?
Is there a plan to port DSU to these (I know ; unsupported) OS ?
I'm certainly not the only one to use Debian or Ubuntu server on Dell servers.

[Linux-PowerEdge] Update Failure: Secure Copy Failure

2016-03-29 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi,

Updating firmware by the old way : update_firmware (it's a R420 with Debian /
Xen so i can't use DSU)

I have a problem :

# update_firmware -y
..
Checking 32 Bit Diagnostics, 5158A3, 5158.2 - 5158a3
Available: dell_dup_componentid_00196 - 5162a0
Found Update: dell_dup_componentid_00196 - 5162a0

Found firmware which needs to be updated.

Running updates...
| Installing dell_dup_componentid_00196 - 5162a0Installation failed for
package: dell_dup_componentid_00196 - 5162a0
aborting update...

The error message from the low-level command was:

Update Failure: Secure Copy Failure - The Secure copy function has failed

How can I install Dell Diagnostics ?

On the console, I have these messages about sdab (the virtual device)

2016-03-21 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT

Hi,

This server is running CentOS release 6.7

dsu --apply-upgrades-only show me a new version (2.30.30.30) for iDRAC with
Lifecycle Controller (2.21.21.21 installed).
Booting on Lyfecycle and searching for new firmwares don't find anything to
upgrade.
Searching on Dell Support web site for my Service Tag found only 2.21.21.21
version of iDrac.

Runining dsu -u give me :

Why the virtual device disconnect several time ? How to correct this problem ?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers.

During install with add the bnx2 firmware, include non-free softwares to get
non-free firmware like new bnx version

2016-01-21 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
We have installed Jessie on R410, 420 or R710 but we have to furnish the good
driver on USB Key to get network.
You can find on
https://github.com/cernekee/linux-firmware/blob/master/bnx2/bnx2-mips-06-6.2.3.fw
 or https://packages.debian.org/jessie/all/firmware-bnx2x/download and extract
the *.fw file

2015-12-14 Thread Jean-Daniel TISSOT
Hi,

Many Thanks.

Does srvadmin-all must be uninstalled before running Docker file ?
I'm a newbie in Docker.
