Compile problem

2001-09-26 Thread Cyril Y. Nickonorov

Hello!

I've got a problem compiling LyX. I have a Sparc system running Solaris
8,
binutils 2.11.2, gcc 2.95.3. Everything goes ok but this error message
during compilation:

--- cut ---

g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I./../ -I../.. -I../..
-I../../boost -I../../src/cheaders -isystem /usr/openwin/include -g -O2
-fno-exceptions -c figinset.C -o figinset.o
In file included from ../../src/cheaders/cmath:8,

I've checked
/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.3/include/math.h
and it contains:

--- cut ---

#ifndef _MATH_H_WRAPPER
#ifdef __cplusplus
# define exception __math_exception
#endif
#include_next math.h
#ifdef __cplusplus
# undef exception
#endif
#define _MATH_H_WRAPPER
#endif /* _MATH_H_WRAPPER */

--- cut ---

I've tried gcc 3.0.1 (math.h seems to be different there) but
compilation hangs on this:

--- cut ---

g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I../../images -I./../ -I../..
-I../.. -I../../boost -I../../src/cheaders -isystem /usr/openwin/include
-g -O2 -c formulamacro.C -o formulamacro.o

--- cut ---

Please point me on what goes wrong.
Thanks beforehand,
Cyril Nickonorov.

So what prevents you from using pslatex (or ae) for both ps and pdf output?
The there should be no difference in size.

If i use ae the fonts looks very bad in pdf. With pslatex the font is different in
horizontal size (i don`t know the correct

May be you just try if you are happy with your version. If there are things
that you think are missing, upgrading is no problem (there is, however a
problem with downgrading: documents written with LyX 1.1.5 have a new
internal table representation and cannot be processed by earlier versions.
Thus, for maximal stability use 1.1.5, for maximal comfort use 1.1.6fix3.

Try the source rpm-s, then you will have an updated rpm-database as well as
rpm telling you about the missing libraries. (Whether there are libs missing
depends on your SuSE version, you will also need some development versions that
are not needed for the binary version but are part of the SuSE distro.)

Yes, 1.1.5fix2 is quite a bit better. 1.1.6fix3... well, I just can't
decide whether it is actually an improvement.

Beware however that both are not backward compatible. Most documents
will work, but there are subtle problems with minor data loss. Tables
from 1.1.6 are not backward compatible at all.

 I have a ppc, so I might have to download the source and compile the

It should be enough to get the source rpm.

 However, I am more concerned at having to possible download

xforms and xpm are required in binary and headers (development), other
than that there should be no problem.

Re: BibTeX and URL's SOLUTION

Thanks for the URL:
http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=setURL+citeURL

Trying it fast, with hiperref I had the same problem '%'. The solution was put spaces
in the bibtex file in the places that I recommend to cut (after the '/' mysteryously
Latex has cut after the '_' but it's good too ;-) )

Ok the solution for all the people who is interested:

1.- Write the Url with misc in the How published field or (if you don't want to
use misc), use another style and put it in the Note field . You have to write
something like this:
Slashdot:
\url{http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/interesting_article.shtml}

1.a.- If you use Pybliographer/ic, write it in native mode (The red light will appear
indicating that something is wrong, but don't matter)
1.b.- You can write it with a text editor (it's better with Vim, as you know :) )

2.- Put some spaces in the url (after the '/' or '_' or '.' or where you want) (if you
don't do this, there will appear a '%')

3.- Put \usepackage{url} in the Latex preamble

4.- Include the cite normally in Lyx

Sorry for my english.

Creating an URL

2001-09-26 Thread stephan . schlierf

Hi there,

what I want to do is to create a link from one file to another one.
I use document class book(koma-script) and included package url by putting
\usepackage{url} into the preamble.
I already tried the following:
- Insert - URL
- wrote \url[linkname{file.html} in plain LaTeX.
Then I tried to export the file by running Export - HTML.
Both failed that means what I see in the HTML-file is not a link but the
plain text linkname file.html
For conversion I use latex2html with the switches - no_subdir -split 0
-show_section_numbers

Can anybody tell me what to do to create an URL when using document class
book (I really would like to avoid document class LinuxDoc) ?

TIA

If I remember right, you had the chapters in individual files but all the
files to link belong to the same book.

Furthermore, if I remember right, latex2html does (can do) a splitting of
several chapters to several html-files. (Look at the latex2html
documentation/customization.)

So you can try to have all the stuff in one file (or master file) and link
as usual (mark and reference).

Hi Guenter,

hm, you are right and not: my plans were modified so that I create one
HTML-file for each window (concerning the online-help).
Therefore I need to have references from one file to another (like see
also: ...)
The problem I have is that I don´t know how to create a valid HTML-link
(something like url[linkname]{filename.html}
The reported ways I tried (using Insert - URL or putting plain TaTeX code
\url[linkname]{filename.html} in the text) didn´t show the effect I want
to have.
If I use document class book(koma-script) the only thing I see is linkname
filename.html written in plain text and not as a hyperlink in the
resulting html-file.
Any more hints?

spell checker problems

2001-09-26 Thread Philipp Lehman

After switching from Lyx 1.1.5fix2 to 1.1.6fix3 I can't get the ispell
to work any more. Lyx displays the error message I'm sorry I can't
find any suitable word lists for the language-tag german. The same
happens when setting the ispell language to deutsch or using the
document language (that latter results in a message about the
language-tag de). Of course, ispell works when I run it from the
command line.

Any ideas? This is Lyx 1.1.6fix3 compiled with pspell support.

The other thing to consider is whether your version of Ghostscript is
too old -- version 5.5 and earlier always makes the fonts in the PDF

MS Word, Lyx, and my resume

2001-09-26 Thread Sean LeBlanc

I'm a complete newbie to lyx. I've heard good things about
it, and I'm growing increasingly frustrated with MS Word,
esp. when trying to manipulate my resume.

I have a few things I'd like to try, but I'm wondering if
they are possible, or are the best way to go about this.
Basically, I want to put my resume into the most flexible
format possible, with little to no teeth-gnashing to
manipulate it when I need to.

I was thinking of doing this:

1. Converting from MS Word to Lyx. It looks like there is
at least one project (wv toolkit) that will let me do this.

2. Make the changes I want in Lyx, save, and then...

3. Well, I'm not sure what to do here. Most HR staff don't
understand what I do as a living, much less understand
anything beyond the realm of M$ Office. I've even heard of
HR people having trouble opening an HTML resume a friend of
mine sent them. I still would like to try exporting to XML/HTML,
if possible, but it would still really be great to be able
to kick out the ol' Word format for the people who cling to
it. Is this at all possible? What about filters for other
formats like PDF?

Maybe I'm not on track at all here. What do most of you
people do to maintain your resume? Are you using Lyx? Or
is it not a good fit at all?

LyX in politics

2001-09-26 Thread Steve Litt

Today I had to write 4 letters to politicians. I used the LyX Letter template
to do it, and it worked out very well.

Then I had to write a set of instructor notes for my Troubleshooting course.
So I used VimOutliner to design the outline, used my otl2lyx script to
translate the outline into a LyX doc structure, pasted it into a doc using
Article document class, and punched out about 4000 words, and then used dvihp
to make it into an HP PCL file.

LyX is pretty cool.

Compile problem

2001-09-26 Thread Cyril Y. Nickonorov

Hello!

I've got a problem compiling LyX. I have a Sparc system running Solaris
8,
binutils 2.11.2, gcc 2.95.3. Everything goes ok but this error message
during compilation:

--- cut ---

g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I./../ -I../.. -I../..
-I../../boost -I../../src/cheaders -isystem /usr/openwin/include -g -O2

I've checked
/usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/2.95.3/include/math.h
and it contains:

--- cut ---

#ifndef _MATH_H_WRAPPER
#ifdef __cplusplus
# define exception __math_exception
#endif
#include_next math.h
#ifdef __cplusplus
# undef exception
#endif
#define _MATH_H_WRAPPER
#endif /* _MATH_H_WRAPPER */

--- cut ---

I've tried gcc 3.0.1 (math.h seems to be different there) but
compilation hangs on this:

--- cut ---

g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I../../images -I./../ -I../..
-I../.. -I../../boost -I../../src/cheaders -isystem /usr/openwin/include

Please point me on what goes wrong.

If i use ae the fonts looks very bad in pdf. With pslatex the font is different in

2001-09-26 Thread xdeblas

Thanks for the URL:
http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=setURL+citeURL

Trying it fast, with hiperref I had the same problem '%'. The solution was put spaces
in the bibtex file in the places that I recommend to cut (after the '/' mysteryously
Latex has cut after the '_' but it's good too ;-) )

Ok the solution for all the people who is interested:

1.- Write the Url with misc in the How published field or (if you don't want to
use misc), use another style and put it in the Note field . You have to write
something like this:
Slashdot:
\url{http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/interesting_article.shtml}

Re: Creating an URL

2001-09-26 Thread stephan . schlierf

Hi Guenter,

hm, you are right and not: my plans were modified so that I create one
HTML-file for each window (concerning the online-help).
Therefore I need to have references from one file to another (like see
also: ...)
The problem I have is that I don´t know how to create a valid HTML-link
(something like url[linkname]{filename.html}

How to put xfig generated .pstex files into LyX documents?

2001-09-26 Thread Clodoaldo Carvalho

Dear all,

I have some eqn's to put into a figure generated by xfig. So, I set up
the appropriate text flags and followed the instructions at the xfig's
help to export figure as Combined PS/LaTeX. After all that, I tried to
insert the generated .pstex_t file into a LyX document with no
success. Could anybody help me!?

Thanks.

Clodoaldo.

Thanks

Yes, you should probably go to at least version 1.1.5fix2. If you are

Compile problem

Hello!

during compilation:

--- cut ---

g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I. -I../../src -I./../ -I../.. -I../..

#define _MATH_H_WRAPPER

I've tried gcc 3.0.1 (math.h seems to be different there) but
compilation hangs on this:

If i use ae the fonts looks very bad in pdf. With pslatex the font is different in
horizontal size (i don`t know the correct
name). For example i have one section with 3 sides and 4 lines with default and with
pslatex i get only 3 sides.
I tried also dvipdfm but the fonts are bad.

May be you just try if you are happy with your version. If there are things
that you think are missing, upgrading is no problem (there is, however a
problem with "downgrading": documents written with LyX > 1.1.5 have a new
internal table representation and cannot be processed by earlier versions.

It should be enough to get the source rpm.

xforms and xpm are required in binary and headers (development), other
than that there should be no problem.

I had samilar problem. I have tried to do as Dekel's suggestion (in

Re: BibTeX and URL's SOLUTION

2001-09-26 Thread xdeblas

Thanks for the URL:
http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=setURL+citeURL

Trying it fast, with hiperref I had the same problem '%'. The solution was put spaces
in the bibtex file in the places that I recommend to cut (after the '/' mysteryously
Latex has cut after the '_' but it's good too ;-) )

Ok the solution for all the people who is interested:

1.- Write the Url with "misc" in the "How published" field or (if you don't want to
use misc), use another style and put it in the Note field . You have to write
something like this:
Slashdot:
\url{http://www.slashdot.org/long_url/where_we_found_the_following_article/interesting_article.shtml}

If I remember right, you had the chapters in individual files but all the
"files to link" belong to the same book.

Furthermore, if I remember right, latex2html does (can do) a splitting of
several chapters to several html-files. (Look at the latex2html
documentation/customization.)

So you can try to have all the stuff in one file (or master file) and link
as usual (mark and reference).

Re: Creating an URL

Hi Guenter,

hm, you are right and not: my plans were modified so that I create one
HTML-file for each window (concerning the online-help).
Therefore I need to have references from one file to another (like "see
also: ...")
The problem I have is that I don´t know how to create a valid HTML-link
(something like url[linkname]{filename.html}
The reported ways I tried (using Insert -> URL or putting plain TaTeX code
"\url[linkname]{filename.html}" in the text) didn´t show the effect I want
to have.
If I use document class book(koma-script) the only thing I see is "linkname
filename.html" written in plain text and not as a hyperlink in the
resulting html-file.
Any more hints?

TIA

spell checker problems

2001-09-26 Thread Philipp Lehman

After switching from Lyx 1.1.5fix2 to 1.1.6fix3 I can't get the ispell
to work any more. Lyx displays the error message "I'm sorry I can't
find any suitable word lists for the language-tag "german". The same
happens when setting the ispell language to "deutsch" or using the
document language (that latter results in a message about the
language-tag "de"). Of course, ispell works when I run it from the
command line.

Any ideas? This is Lyx 1.1.6fix3 compiled with pspell support.

The other thing to consider is whether your version of Ghostscript is
too old -- version 5.5 and earlier always makes the fonts in the PDF
file bitmapped instead of outline -- which means they look ugly.

the following lines in the thesis.cls are the problem. if you could comment
them out,
all should work. hyperref can't handle such command structure. with these
changes
it worked for me and the changes are only for the toc, lof and lot and not
important.

\usepackage{html}

and in text in tex(red)

\htmladdnormallink{the text for the link}{the url for the link}

for example:
\htmladdnormallink{LaTeX Description}{file:///home/voss/brief.html}

Have you tested it? I did and this changes nothing ;-) Latex still
complains that he cannot find out the image files.

Well, after cross-examinations of diferent placements of the main-master
document, including your workaround, I came to the point: master must be
placed in one of the Part-directory where lyx files included in the
master are stored. It is irrevelant in which one -- p1, p2 or p3. The
names of directories (prefix etc.) are not important. The storege of the
image files also seems to be out of interest.

This way and for the time, I'm close to finish up my book. Some specific
questions remain, when in trouble will address for help.

Hmm..., yes, I know. But neveretheless, thank you very much, Guenter.
What I do not know in this point, is how to merge in one file the whole
stuff of .msgs in my lyx-users subfolder in Kmail folder ~/Mail. But this
is out of interest in this list.

How to put xfig generated .pstex files into LyX documents?

2001-09-26 Thread Clodoaldo Carvalho

Dear all,

I have some eqn's to put into a figure generated by xfig. So, I set up
the appropriate text flags and followed the instructions at the xfig's
help to export figure as "Combined PS/LaTeX". After all that, I tried to
insert the generated ".pstex_t" file into a LyX document with no
success. Could anybody help me!?

Thanks.

Clodoaldo.

Thanks

Yes, you should probably go to at least version 1.1.5fix2. If you are
not a heavy table user, you could try 1.1.6fix3.

My comment was not about the lyx doc, but about the .layout
file that you use for your modified book class.

Hmmm, what version of lyx is that? I remember fixing a problem about
that (changelog says on 31/10/2000).

Can you reproduce the problem with the normal book class?
