I assume you're using linux.
Simply set the LANG environment variable to de_DE
(or possibly de_DE.UTF-8).

LyX will notice, and use your preferred language. So will
lots of other software you use. This assumes that
locales is installed with support for the de_DE / de_DE.UTF-8
locale. This shouldn't be hard to do.

If you want just LyX in german and not everything else, then
make a script that sets LANG for only that session, and then
launches LyX.
Anything else I should know (such as support for umlaughts or default page
sizes or default units)?

If you want ü, ö, ä and such, just type them after setting the keyboard
up for it.

LyX does not need a setup of its own to support that.

You can set the page size to A4 in document settings, and save that
as default for all documents. You can also modify such settings in
your template documents.

I don't think there is any default unit - when you need a length you
will usually have to specify the unit each time.

Wrapping a float between columns

2008-01-07 Thread Shawn Willden
Hi,

I have a two-column document with some images in wrap floats. By using the
microtype package and making the images small enough, I can get nicely-spaced
text to the left or right of an image, but I'd prefer to make the images a
little larger and place them in the center, so that they take space from both
columns.

Is there a way to do this? Ideally, it would be nice to be able to shift the
image a little to one side or another so it's not dead center (a little
asymmetry is often visually-appealing), but that's less important.

Thanks,

Shawn.

Reconfiguring does not work (windows)

Hello everyone,

Installed Lyx today in Windows XP Pro. I already installed MikTex and
just followed the Lyx installer. When i try to open a template I get
the following error:

The layout requested by this document, aa.layout, is not usable
because a LaTeX class or style is not available. See the Custumization
documentation for more information. LyX will not be able to produce
output.

Then the window of LyX displays the template, but ends after the line
1 Introduction.

When I try to output that to pdf I get the following error:

Lyx: Couldn't export file
No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex)

I also get that error when I open a new document and try to export that.

When I run reconfifgure, it asks me to install IEEEtran.cls: The
required file tex\latex\IEEEtran\IEEEtran.cls is missing etc., etc.
The lists of mirrors loads fine, but whichever I choose, I get the
following error:

The system reconfiguration has failed. Default textclass is used but
LyX may not be able to work properly. Please reconfigure again if
needed.

No matter how many times I restart and reconfigure LyX, nothing seems to work.

First, as Richard said, try reconfiguring. Assuming that fails to solve
the problem, verify that the layouts folder (/usr/share/lyx/layouts ?)
contains layout files for the missing classes. If not, it's a defect in
your LyX installation. If the layouts are there, run 'kpsewhich
simplecv.cls' (and the same for the other missing classes) in a terminal
and verify that the class files are installed in your LaTeX distro. If
they are not found, you need to install them.

Simply set the LANG environment variable to de_DE
(or possibly de_DE.UTF-8).

LyX will notice, and use your preferred language. So will
lots of other software you use. This assumes that

If you want ü, ö, ä and such, just type them after setting the keyboard

Is there a way to do this? Ideally, it would be nice to be able to shift the
image a little to one side or another so it's not dead center (a little
asymmetry is often visually-appealing), but that's less important.

Thanks,

Reconfiguring does not work (windows)

2008-01-07 Thread foxley

Sincerely,

First, as Richard said, try reconfiguring. Assuming that fails to solve
the problem, verify that the layouts folder (/usr/share/lyx/layouts ?)
contains layout files for the missing classes. If not, it's a defect in
your LyX installation. If the layouts are there, run 'kpsewhich
simplecv.cls' (and the same for the other missing classes) in a terminal
and verify that the class files are installed in your LaTeX distro. If
they are not found, you need to install them.

On a system set up for German, it comes in German automatically (e.g. here
at my box), so I have defined the alias:

  alias lyx-en="LANG=en_GB; lyx"

in my .bashrc file for an English speaking lyx.

To force a German interface (in UNIX), set the LANG variable to "de_DE", say,
before starting lyx:

  LANG=de_DE; lyx

This very much depends on the context:

* Is there a German keyboard
* What paper is used in the printer?
...

Also, have a look at Help>Customization

How can I get the LyX interface to be in German?

I assume you're using linux.
Simply set the LANG environment variable to de_DE
(or possibly de_DE.UTF-8).

LyX will notice, and use your preferred language. So will
lots of other software you use. This assumes that
"locales" is installed with support for the de_DE / de_DE.UTF-8

You need to build the template from basic Styles in
OOo. Hit F11 and start modifying your styles. :)

I have get this error message,
"Some characters of your document are not representable in the chosen encoding.
Changing the encoding to utf.8 could help"
But, for me, the problem is the path of the included figures. I have
fixed the problem re-inserting the figures again. So, the absolute
path changes to relative path and the pdf output works now.
Includes figures your document? If so, try insert the figures again.

Reconfiguring does not work (windows)

2008-01-07 Thread foxley
Hello everyone,

Installed Lyx today in Windows XP Pro. I already installed MikTex and
just followed the Lyx installer. When i try to open a template I get
the following error:

"The layout requested by this document, aa.layout, is not usable
because a LaTeX class or style is not available. See the Custumization
documentation for more information. LyX will not be able to produce
output."

Then the window of LyX displays the template, but ends after the line
"1 Introduction".

When I try to output that to pdf I get the following error:

"Lyx: Couldn't export file
No information for exporting the format PDF (pdflatex)"

I also get that error when I open a new document and try to export that.

When I run reconfifgure, it asks me to install IEEEtran.cls: The
required file "tex\latex\IEEEtran\IEEEtran.cls is missing" etc., etc.
The lists of mirrors loads fine, but whichever I choose, I get the
following error:

"The system reconfiguration has failed. Default textclass is used but
LyX may not be able to work properly. Please reconfigure again if
needed."

No matter how many times I restart and reconfigure LyX, nothing seems to work.

Sincerely,

Icke

Your problem is basically a miktex problem. What happens if you
install these packages from Miktex' package manager?

document classes unavailable

2008-01-07 Thread Filippo Zangheri
Hi everybody,

I'm a LyX 1.5.3 user, I compiled the source and run it on a Debian Etch system.

My problem is that since I switched to the new version from 1.5.2, some
document classes [1]
have become unavailable, which I could perfectly use before. Some of them have
always be unavailable and still remain.

Can anybody help me please?

Thanks in advance,
great job!

I have found a different solution on the Lyx wiki
(http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinTips#toc10): I disabled on-the-fly
package installing in MikTeX. Now LyX works fine. Thanks for the quick
reply anyway!

Icke

Try removing (or renaming) your .lyx directory. If that works, there's
something about your old configuration that's messing things up.

Upgrading to LyX 1.5.3 with LyXWinInstaller - worked great

2008-01-07 Thread David Hewitt

Just in case anyone else is behind on upgrading like me...

I just used the LyXWinInstaller to upgrade from LyX 1.5.2 to LyX 1.5.3 on
WinXP and it worked great. It even preserved a Converter that I had set up
in 1.5.2 and had expected to need to re-do.

Thanks again Uwe!

Sorry, I forgot to mention the classes that I noticed to become not available
after the switch. Thay are:

simplecv, moderncv and hollywood.

These are the only ones I have noticed, but there may be others...

Errors using vref and hyperref package on Ubuntu

2008-01-07 Thread Shawn Willden
I have two machines, one running Debian unstable, the other running Ubuntu
7.10. Both have the texlive-full package installed from their respective
repository. On the Debian box, pdflatex handles my document just fine, but
on the Ubuntu box, I get errors on every /vref, unless I comment out
the /usepackage{hyperref} in the preamble. The error says that an
unexpected '}' was found.

Can anyone help me narrow down where in the massive pile of stuff that is
LyX+texlive full the problem comes from? Or give me any suggestions on how
to debug this?

The Debian box has LyX 1.5.3, while Ubuntu is 1.5.1. Texlive versions are
2007-3 and 2007-10, respectively.

Thanks,

Shawn

Re: Lyx and Trees

2008-01-07 Thread Afief Halumi
I have contacted the developer of QTree and it turns out that the Tex
code has to be like this:
\Tree [.$\sqrt2x$ [.$\sqrt2$ 2 ] [.{$\sqrt x$} ] ]

Now I really don't have the slightest idea how to do that from the Lyx
interface, so I insert the code through insert->Tex Code(yes
technically i'm still in the Lyx interface, but you know what I mean)

I am refraining from making the edit to the wiki hoping that someone
here knows a better way to do it.

Missing layout files on MAC with uptodate installation

2008-01-07 Thread axel.weber
Hi,

I installed the latest version of Lyx and MacTex.
I have already searched the list for these kind of issues but could not find an
apporpriate solution.

I am missing only certain layouts, eg.: simplecv, some article and book layout.
The layout files files themselves are available.
What am I missing here. I did all the reconfigure and texhash with no success
so far.
