If OOdraw has a command line option to convert WMF to PFD or EPS, you
could even make LyX aware of the WMF format (search for SVG on
wiki.lyx.org as an template on how to configure LyX for WMF).

 These graphics will appear in documents for printing and pdf output.

If you use pdflatex, preferabely save the drawings as pdf (but LyX can
be told to convert eps to pdf as well).
If you use latex+dvips+ps2pdf, save them as eps (but LyX can be told to
convert to eps as well).

I do not know about OS X, but generally:

To install a script as executable, you have to

1. move or copy or link the file to a place the OS looks for executable files

2. tell the OS that it is executable (use the .exe or .com ending on DOS and

[announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.5.5

2008-05-13 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello LyXers,

I uploaded the new version 3.24 of the LyXWinInstaller. Like for the last versions, an update
installer is offered. With this you can easily update your LyX 1.5.4 installation to LyX 1.5.5:

Log in as adminstrator on your PC and execute the update installer.
Note: The update installer only works when LyX 1.5.4 was installed also with
the LyXWinInstaller!

The installer can be downloaded from:
https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=14622
and also from
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.5.5
(under the name AltInstaller)

(More infos about the installer can be found here:
 http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller )

Changelog:
-
Version 3.24
- LyX 1.5.5 (http://www.lyx.org/announce/1_5_5.txt)

- updated to MiKTeX 2.7 (build 3053)
- updated to ImageMagick 6.4.1-1
- updated to Ghostscript 8.62 (fixes a bug of viewing PDF images within LyX)
- new Japanese translation of the installer (thanks to Koji Yokata)
- new method to view PDF files that also works under Windows Vista
  (thanks to Joost Verburg)
-

The new PDF previewer is not shipped with the update installer for technical reasons. But when
previewing PDFs with LyX 1.5.4 worked for you, you don't need to update to the new previewer.

happy LyXing and best regards

This is not the usual way when you are using babel - as LyX does.
Use this sequence instead:

You also need:
\usepackage{fixltx2e}

in the preamble, so that the \textsubscript command gets defined.

Note that this way of using \Molek only works with single-letter atoms.
For chlorine, you need something like \Molek{Cl}{2}

You may want to have a look at the chemsym and bpchem packages,
that lets you typeset all sorts of chemical formulae.

You probably want \Molek{H}{2} in the box instead.

In any case, I find it easier (less and more convenient keystrokes) to
simply type

  H math-mode _2 space

whatever keybinding you have to enter in-line math formulas and
space is the space bar.

Embedding asymptote in LyX

2008-05-13 Thread Peleg Michaeli
Hello!

I am trying to embed Asymptote in LyX documents.

I am following this tutorial:
http://www.dse.nl/~dario/projects/asylatex/asylatex.pdf

I am doing everything as suggested:
* I have included \usepackage{asymptote} and
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx} in the LaTeX preamble
* I have done Crtl-L in the middle of the document and added this LaTeX
code:

\begin{figure}
\centering
\begin{asy}
size (3cm);
draw (unitcircle);
\end{asy}
\caption{Embedded Asymptote figures are easy!}
\label{fig:embedded}
\end{figure}

When I generate the document (using pdflatex), I get nothing special: a
figure with PDF written there, but no image (no unitcircle)...
when I do the same, but with DVI, I get EPS written instead of the
unitcircle. Either way, I don't see any picture...

I have a new version of Asymptote: 1.18 - so it should work
automatically with pdflatex.

Any ideas?
Maybe I should ask a different list?

Thanks ahead,
Peleg.

Hough!

I am not a specialist of ASYMPTOTE, but I've just looked into the
documentation. They directly tell about makefile for latex with asymptote:

document.pdf: document.tex
pdflatex -shell-escape document
asy document
pdflatex -shell-escape document

It means that ASYMPTOTE need an additional step during document generation
which launch asy command between two pdflatex invocations. This is what
LyX is *not able* to do. Generation process is compiled in, automatic... and
as some people suggests, not user configurable.

Maybe it is worth to put feature request in bugzilla, to get this to work
when \usepackage{asymptote} is used in preamble definition.

I'm assuming the problem refers to the LyX binary distribution from
the LyX web site, not to a fink or macports version. Is that correct?
What platform is this happening on? Leopard? Tiger? What language is
being used?
On the Mac the Qt libs are linked statically, so you can't change the
Qt version as was suggested by Micha.

Of course you should now have made a backup, so one could try to
experiment a little. I'm speculating wildly now, but maybe it works:

(a)
Did you include any figures? If so, move them all out of your working
directory, and try to re-open. If that allows the file to open, put
the figures back one by one, to see where it hangs.

(b)
If that doesn't work, perhaps it's some obscure problem with Unicode
characters (perhaps some weird key combination, pressed accidentally,
created a pathological character).
How can one fix something like that? Maybe the easiest is to open
the .lyx file in emacs and look through the source. Do you know how
to use the Terminal, and an editor like emacs? That would allow you
to see if the 20 pages you entered are still there in the file.

(c)
If you don't know emacs (or vi), you may at least find out if the
file filename.lyx is still whole, by opening a Terminal window,
changing to your working directory and typing cat filename.lyx -
e.g., it would be a bad sign if the file doesn't end with
\end_document

(d)
Another possibility: if you can start LyX without an open file, try
to disable instant preview of graphics and math before loading the
troublesome file. Alternatively, reconfiguring and resetting as much
as possible to the default values may be a good idea.

Maybe this helps -

wiki.lyx.org as an template on how to configure LyX for WMF).

 These graphics will appear in documents for printing and pdf output.

If you use pdflatex, preferabely save the drawings as pdf (but LyX can

[announce] LyXWinInstaller for LyX 1.5.5

2008-05-13 Thread Uwe Stöhr

Hello LyXers,

I uploaded the new version 3.24 of the LyXWinInstaller. Like for the last versions, an update
installer is offered. With this you can easily update your LyX 1.5.4 installation to LyX 1.5.5:

Log in as adminstrator on your PC and execute the update installer.
Note: The update installer only works when LyX 1.5.4 was installed also with
the LyXWinInstaller!

The installer can be downloaded from:
https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117release_id=14622
and also from
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.5.5
(under the name AltInstaller)

(More infos about the installer can be found here:
 http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller )

Changelog:
-
Version 3.24
- LyX 1.5.5 (http://www.lyx.org/announce/1_5_5.txt)

- updated to MiKTeX 2.7 (build 3053)
- updated to ImageMagick 6.4.1-1
- updated to Ghostscript 8.62 (fixes a bug of viewing PDF images within LyX)
- new Japanese translation of the installer (thanks to Koji Yokata)
- new method to view PDF files that also works under Windows Vista
  (thanks to Joost Verburg)
-

The new PDF previewer is not shipped with the update installer for technical reasons. But when
previewing PDFs with LyX 1.5.4 worked for you, you don't need to update to the new previewer.

happy LyXing and best regards

When you install LyX using this installer:

The whitespace problem you described was a bug in ImageMagick (that also appears for PDF and PS

This is not the usual way when you are using babel - as LyX does.
Use this sequence instead:

\usepackage[french]{babel}
\addto\captionsfrench {\renewcommand{\refname} {}}

I can change the name only in moderncv.sty

You also need:
\usepackage{fixltx2e}

Note that this way of using \Molek only works with single-letter atoms.
For chlorine, you need something like \Molek{Cl}{2}

You may want to have a look at the chemsym and bpchem packages,

In any case, I find it easier (less and more convenient keystrokes) to
simply type

Embedding asymptote in LyX

2008-05-13 Thread Peleg Michaeli
Hello!

I am trying to embed Asymptote in LyX documents.

I am following this tutorial:
http://www.dse.nl/~dario/projects/asylatex/asylatex.pdf

I am doing everything as suggested:
* I have included \usepackage{asymptote} and
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx} in the LaTeX preamble
* I have done Crtl-L in the middle of the document and added this LaTeX
code:

\begin{figure}
\centering
\begin{asy}
size (3cm);
draw (unitcircle);
\end{asy}
\caption{Embedded Asymptote figures are easy!}
\label{fig:embedded}
\end{figure}

The best choice (for Inkskape) should be SVG. LyX can be set to support it

Have a look which of these Inkskape supports (do not use the bitmap

I do not know about OS X, but generally:

To install a script as executable, you have to

1. move or copy or link the file to a place the OS looks for executable files
   (the PATH)

2. tell the OS that it is executable (use the .exe or .com ending on DOS and

installer is offered. With this you can easily update your LyX 1.5.4 installation to LyX 1.5.5:

Log in as adminstrator on your PC and execute the update installer.
Note: The update installer only works when LyX 1.5.4 was installed also with
the LyXWinInstaller!

The installer can be downloaded from:
https://developer.berlios.de/project/showfiles.php?group_id=5117_id=14622
and also from
ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.5.5
(under the name AltInstaller)

(More infos about the installer can be found here:
 http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller )

Changelog:
-
Version 3.24
- LyX 1.5.5 (http://www.lyx.org/announce/1_5_5.txt)

- updated to MiKTeX 2.7 (build 3053)
- updated to ImageMagick 6.4.1-1
- updated to Ghostscript 8.62 (fixes a bug of viewing PDF images within LyX)
- new Japanese translation of the installer (thanks to Koji Yokata)
- new method to view PDF files that also works under Windows Vista
  (thanks to Joost Verburg)
-

The new PDF previewer is not shipped with the update installer for technical reasons. But when
previewing PDFs with LyX 1.5.4 worked for you, you don't need to update to the new previewer.

happy LyXing and best regards

When you install LyX using this installer:
http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller

Inkscape is used to convert the SVG to PDF as you want it.
The whitespace problem you described was a bug in ImageMagick (that also appears for PDF and PS
images). To get a fixed version:

- uninstall the Existing ImageMagick (if you have it installed)
- reinstall LyX 1.5.5 using the obove mentioned installer that delivers the
latest ImageMagick

This is not the usual way when you are using babel - as LyX does.
Use this sequence instead:

\usepackage[french]{babel}
\addto\captionsfrench {\renewcommand{\refname} {}}

and replace "french" by the language you are using.

I can change the name only in moderncv.sty

Don't change style files, if you cannot change something with preamble commands, report the problem

I use koma(book) for my LyX document.

Can somebody give me some help?

Replace the mis-spelled "\texstsubscript" with "\textsubscript". (No 's'
in "text")

You also need:
\usepackage{fixltx2e}

in the preamble, so that the \textsubscript command gets defined.

Note that this way of using \Molek only works with single-letter atoms.
For chlorine, you need something like \Molek{Cl}{2}

You may want to have a look at the chemsym and bpchem packages,
that lets you typeset all sorts of chemical formulae.

You probably want \Molek{H}{2} in the box instead.

In any case, I find it easier (less and more convenient keystrokes) to
simply type

  H  _2

directly in Lyx to accomplish the same thing, where is
whatever keybinding you have to enter in-line math formulas and
 is the space bar.

YMMV.

I want to do exactly this but I am not sure how.

Is it possible to have a graph-description in the dot format embedded within a
LyX document and use a converter like dot2tex
(http://www.fauskes.net/code/dot2tex/) to get TeX?

If embedding is not possible I guess I would have to manually convert my dot
file to TeX and then include it within my LyX doc...

Is page number not on by default? It is when I use File -> New from

Embedding asymptote in LyX

2008-05-13 Thread Peleg Michaeli
Hello!

I am trying to embed Asymptote in LyX documents.

I am following this tutorial:
http://www.dse.nl/~dario/projects/asylatex/asylatex.pdf

I am doing everything as suggested:
* I have included \usepackage{asymptote} and
\usepackage[pdftex]{graphicx} in the LaTeX preamble
* I have done Crtl-L in the middle of the document and added this LaTeX
code:

\begin{figure}
\centering
\begin{asy}
size (3cm);
draw (unitcircle);
\end{asy}
\caption{Embedded Asymptote figures are easy!}
\label{fig:embedded}
\end{figure}

When I generate the document (using pdflatex), I get nothing special: a
"figure" with "PDF" written there, but no image (no "unitcircle")...
when I do the same, but with DVI, I get "EPS" written instead of the
unitcircle. Either way, I don't see any picture...

I have a new version of Asymptote: 1.18 - so it should work
automatically with pdflatex.

Any ideas?
Maybe I should ask a different list?

Thanks ahead,
Peleg.

Re: Embedding asymptote in LyX

2008-05-13 Thread Manveru
Hough!

I am not a specialist of ASYMPTOTE, but I've just looked into the
documentation. They directly tell about makefile for latex with asymptote:

document.pdf: document.tex
pdflatex -shell-escape document
asy document
pdflatex -shell-escape document

It means that ASYMPTOTE need an additional step during document generation
which launch "asy" command between two "pdflatex" invocations. This is what
LyX is *not able* to do. Generation process is compiled in, automatic... and
as some people suggests, not user configurable.

Maybe it is worth to put feature request in bugzilla, to get this to work
when \usepackage{asymptote} is used in preamble definition.

M.

Change tracker continues to have problems

I had this exact same problem with 1.5.4, which 1.55 has inherited. With

"Package soul Error:  Reconstruction failed."

I do have the "soul" package installed in MikTex.

Is it possible to fix this problem?

Masters Thesis in LyX 1.5.4 for MAC intel - Crashing, what now?!

Hi,I've encountered a problem that I can't seem to rectify

I'm trying to finish my masters thesis and upon trying to compile it today
before I left for dinner and got a strange error that I have never
encountered before.. a LaTeX formatting window popped up stating only
"Conversion error" and LyX then unexpectedly quit! Now, when I sit here
trying to open the MastersThesis.lyx file or the backup .lyx~ file, LyX
can't open it!! It starts to open and then the Mac Spinning pinwheel comes
up and boom, LyX is gone.

What do I do now!!! I haven't done a backup in a few weeks and have added a
good 20 pages since then!! I need help and quick!!

Please, any suggestions, ASAP! My deadline is quickly approaching.
Cheers,

Hi -- there was one important piece of information that I discovered: this
problem only occurs with pdflatex output. No problems with dvipdfm,
postscript, and so forth. Just pdflatex. Also, I am running lyx on WinXP.
I haven't tried to see whether this problem occurs on a linux machine.

There was an issue under linux with qt 4.4, did you happen to upgrade that by
any chance? If so see if you can downgrade qt to 4.3 (although latest 4.4 works
under debian). Afraid I don't have a mac so I don't have any other suggestions

(c)
If you don't know emacs (or vi), you may at least find out if the
file "filename.lyx" is still whole, by opening a Terminal window,
changing to your working directory and typing "cat filename.lyx" -
e.g., it would be a bad sign if the file doesn't end with
"\end_document"

(d)
Another possibility: if you can start LyX without an open file, try
to disable instant preview of graphics and math before loading the
troublesome file. Alternatively, reconfiguring and resetting as much
as possible to the default values may be a good idea.

Maybe this helps -

Jens

Hi,
in the Document Settings under Document Class, add the (amusing)
keyword "pointednumbers" to the Options. This and everything you ever
wanted to know is in the koma-script documentation, scrguien.pdf. The
even more amusing option to turn the trailing dot off for all
