displaying polytonic greek

2008-11-27 Thread Dante Cassius
Hi,

I'm having issues displaying polytonic greek in lyx. Whenever I type a
character with multiple diacritics, I only get a box instead of the
character. I set the language to Greek and the encoding to utf8x. It doesn't
matter how I input them, either. I've tried the Microsoft keyboard, multiple
programs, copy/pasting from different sources, etc. No matter what I do, I
can't get the characters to display. Any advice?

Use LyX 1.6 which explicitely supports Greek (polytonic).

Use encodings language default or ASCII to let lyx do the
Unicode-LaTeX macro conversion

(For workarounds under LyX 1.5 search wiki.lyx.org for Greek.
Main point: use ERT for the ~.)

Disable Alt-f and similar?

2008-11-27 Thread Guenter Milde
Hi LyX users,

every now and then, I happen to press Key-combinations like
Alt-f r (for FileRecent) in my German LyX.

If there is an open document, LyX inserts fr at the cursor position, which

Is there a way to disable Alt+something for the cases where there is no

My problem is when I select Turkish at Language for non-Unicode programs

Revtex4 blocks bibliographystyle?

2008-11-27 Thread Christian Richter
Dear all,

I have a problem with using the Revtex4 (article) documentclass in
combination with the bibliographystyle:

Whatever Bibliographystyle (apsrmplong, unsrt, .. ) I choose, the
reference titles do not appear in the reference. It looks like as if
Revtex4 blocks the bibliographystyle choosen. If I choose another
documentclass (like Koma-skript article) the references appear like I
want it (with titles!).

As this problem is not yet stated in the Revtex4 documentation, I
thought this may come from an interaction between lyx and Revtex...

Can anybody help me?

Re: All Authors in citation

2008-11-27 Thread Pierfranco Minsenti
Hi,

1st problem: the use of et al. this IS DUE TO APA! So how could it be
different? In any case, as for I know, there is no style which manages a
different behaviour, that is the use of et al. only for the second reference
on. Anyway, try using the custom-bib package and create a personal style
that suits you. This is not difficult: all instructions appear on the screen
and you have just to select your preference among some optional choices.
You could also use 3 other styles similar to APA: apacite, apalike, newapa
The advantage is that in these three cases you don't need to use the APA
article class, so you can use any class and then numbered sections, or what
you prefer.

2nd problem: there must be some problem with the original bibliographic file
because this problem is not a standard behaviour with APA. Open the .bib
file containing your references using a simple text editor and check if
there is somethibg which is not correct.

Hope to be of help.

Apparently, yes. This seems like a bug. In fact, from what I can
tell, font-ital never does anything in the current code.

I'm using font-emph for now, as you suggested.

But I'm not sure whether font-ital and font-emph have the same
meaning. It doesn't matter to me since both font styles result in the
text being set in the same italic font when using pdflatex output, but
maybe for other output formats different fonts are used.

font-emph produces emphasis, whatever the existing font. Exactly what it
does is determined by LaTeX. So emphasizing something emphasized makes
sense. font-ital just turns on italics. You can italicize what's already
italicized.

Right, my point just was that for abbreviations like e.g. or i.e.,
an italic font would make more sense than to emphasize these
abbreviations since they don't have to be emphasized imho. Anyway, maybe
font-ital will be implemented (realized) in a future LyX release,
font-emph works for now...

This is a supposedly 'helpful' functionality that should be removed IMO.
This happens when there is no function bound to the binding that you

I assume you want to do this in a letter? If so, then mostly you just have
to use some fairly simple LaTeX. You can't really do this in LyX itself. The

autocomplete question

2008-11-27 Thread Ivan Werning
I love having an autocomplete in LyX 1.6. However, it doesn't seem to
remember at all what the completions I want are. It seems to change
what the first suggestion is too in ways that I cannot understand.
Both things makes it hard to use. (your mind expects it to
autocomplete to the previous one and you hit tab quickly and get the
wrong completion etc...)

Is this a fair description of the current implementation? Is there any
way to get it to know what the completions that you typically want are
or to learn them? Or at least have a consistent ordering of completions?

information:

I can get the letter sample to compile if I change the language from French to
English in the Document settings. I suppose that's because LyX changes some

Hi Jean-Marie,

thanks for your extremely prompt reply. I am using Lyx 1.6.0 with the version
of KomaScript that came with the installation of Kubuntu 8.10. I am not sure
which version it is. The class file:

-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 87668 2008-07-04 03:24 scrlttr2.cls

seems recent, but there are no version information within the file itself.

The problem I am encountering is rather peculiar: with the document language
set to French (in the LyX settings), LaTeX does not compile the letter. If I
change the setting to English, French, or German (the other languages I am
interested in), everything seems to work fine. My rather limited knowledge of
LaTex and almost complete ignorance of the scrlttr2 class is preventing me
from identifying the source of the error.

I can live with this, as my main languages are English and Italian, but I
would like to understand what's going on.

Cheers,

Stefano

But though leaflet-manual.pdf is a 2 page similar to what I want,
there is no source for it that I could copy start changing.
I dont know an email to ask for that.
The only source is leaflet.dtx which produces the large ref
doc leaflet.pdf, nice but I'd like the source to the 2 page too !

Well a dummy is not so essential as I have another here:
http://www.berklix.org/bim/leaflet/newest/leaflet_e.tex
That produces a .ps with 3 columns on 2 pages. ... Though not when using lyx

When I import into lyx, I lose the 3 column effect ! Any Ideas ?

I looked at
http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg52621.html
Where in Dec 2006 Ingar wrote someone:
As it works with latex you probably do not have a layout file that tell
LyX how to use the leaflet class.
These are not that difficult to produce, and as leaflet seem to be quit
close to the standard article-class you only need to make a copy of the
   article.layoutfile to fit your need.

All you (probably) have to do is to find where LyX has a file called
article.layout and make a copy, calling it leaflet.layout in the same
   directory as article.layout.

Open leaflet.layout in your favorite texteditor and change second line
   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{article}
   to
   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{leaflet}

run reconfigure in lyx and restart lyx and leaflet should appear. You
might use some ert and the preamble to tune the class, but most basic
   functionalities should be there.

for more details check chapter 5. in the Customization.lyx that are
   shipped with LyX.

Which I did, but I'm totaly new to lyx, could really use a bit of help,
like a dummy file in 3 cols what to click to import !
(an Import type of No Web is far from intuitive!)

I have little idea, despite excessive clicking scrolling of lyx
embedded help http://lyx.org wiki, whether this is possible,
if so if I need to add extra software, where its documented. If
lyx is capable of this ? Maybe for now I should just fall back to
vi of the raw .tex until hopefuly one of you lyx folks can throw
me a lifebelt ? :-)

Re: Koma Script Letter (v.2) Lyx Example does not compile

[...]

Cheers,

Hi Stefano,

I don't quite understand what's going on either: it obviously does
compile for me in French. If I change the document language to American,
it still compiles. In this case, I get Invoice no. instead of Numéro

On the second line i am changing the environment again to Left Header from

When i view the dvi format i see that only the last line is visible.

Any Idea?

Use LyX 1.6 which explicitely supports Greek (polytonic).

Use encodings language default or ASCII to let lyx do the
Unicode-LaTeX macro conversion

(For workarounds under LyX 1.5 search wiki.lyx.org for Greek.

Revtex4 blocks bibliographystyle?

Well, it's bad form to reply to one's own messages, but here are further
information:

I can get the letter sample to compile if I change the language from French to
English in the Document settings. I suppose that's because LyX changes some
parameter in the LaTeX preamble it produces that would otherwise conflict with
other KomaScript settings. Is my interpretation correct? If so, what should I
do if I want to produce letter-templates for other languages in addition to
English?

Hi Jean-Marie,

thanks for your extremely prompt reply. I am using Lyx 1.6.0 with the version
of KomaScript that came with the installation of Kubuntu 8.10. I am not sure
which version it is. The class file:

seems recent, but there are no version information within the file itself.

The problem I am encountering is rather peculiar: with the document language

change the setting to English, French, or German (the other languages I am

I can live with this, as my main languages are English and Italian, but I
would like to understand what's going on.

Cheers,

Stefano

3 column 2 page leaflet in lyx - How to achieve it ?

2008-11-27 Thread Julian Stacey
Hi lyx-users@lists.lyx.org
I'm trying to create a 3 column 2 page folded leaflet (what the
German call a faltblat that a keyword for some google searces)
(papersize=a4)

I have been looking lots of places before I asked here, but now stuck,
any ideas or RTFM URLs or dummy leaflet sources please ?

I'm using lyx-1.4.5.1_1 on FreeBSD 7.1-BETA2

I previously lookied here:
  http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet/
  ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet.zip
which contains:
  102148 Dec 22 2004 leaflet-manual.pdf
   44696 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.dtx
 767 Aug 6 2004 leaflet.ins
  152621 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.pdf
   http://www.uni-muenster.de/TeXdoc/texlive.unix/texmf/tex/latex/leaflet/
  has just
leaflet.cls09-Apr-2002 14:52 3.3K LaTeX-Klassendatei

   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{article}
   to
   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{leaflet}

run reconfigure in lyx and restart lyx and leaflet should appear. You
might use some ert and the preamble to tune the class, but most basic
   functionalities should be there.

for more details check chapter 5. in the Customization.lyx that are
   shipped with LyX.

Cheers,
Julian

Hello forum,

I believe that some of you have the simple cv class

I am trying to use that as well. And as a beginner i am stumbling a bit.

In the Left Header from the Environment menu i am providing my mailing
address.

On the first line i am changing the environment to Left Header from Standard
and entering the first line of the address

On the second line i am changing the environment again to Left Header from
Standard and entering the second line of the address

When i view the dvi format i see that only the last line is visible.

Any Idea?

Right, I like it for the math, precisely. What about my original
question, anyone?:

I love having an autocomplete in LyX 1.6. However, it doesn't seem to
remember at all what the completions I want are. It seems to change
what the first suggestion is too in ways that I cannot understand.
Both things makes it hard to use. (your mind expects it to
autocomplete to the previous one and you hit tab quickly and get the
wrong completion etc...)

Is this a fair description of the current implementation? Is there any
way to get it to know what the completions that you typically want are
or to learn them? Or at least have a consistent ordering of completions?

displaying polytonic greek

matter how I input them, either. I've tried the Microsoft keyboard, multiple

Use LyX 1.6 which explicitely supports Greek (polytonic).

Use encodings "language default" or "ASCII" to let lyx do the
Unicode->LaTeX macro conversion

(For workarounds under LyX 1.5 search wiki.lyx.org for Greek.
Main point: use ERT for the ~.)

Disable Alt-f and similar?

Hi LyX users,

every now and then, I happen to press Key-combinations like
Alt-f r (for File>Recent) in my German LyX.

If there is an open document, LyX inserts "fr" at the cursor position, which

You can italicize what's already
italicized.

Right, my point just was that for abbreviations like "e.g." or "i.e.",
an italic font would make more sense than to emphasize these
abbreviations since they don't have to be emphasized imho. Anyway, maybe
font-ital will be implemented (realized) in a future LyX release,
font-emph works for now...

This is a supposedly 'helpful' functionality that should be removed IMO.
This happens when there is no function bound to the binding that you
try.

All Authors in citation

2008-11-27 Thread nimmerichter

Hy NG,
I'm a new LYX (1.6, Mac) user but accommodate well over the last weeks.
Writing my PhD now and have two problems with citations:
Documentclass: article
Style: Natbib Author-Year
Bibtex Library imported from Endnote
Must use APA for citations

So far so good.
1st: I need to include all authors in the Text at the first citation (e.g.
Tim, Tom, Peter, 1998), but my citations are always (Tim, et.al, 1998). I've
ticked also the "all authors" box in the dialog box, without result?
The citations are correct when I change the documentclass into APA, but in
this case the sections and subsections are not numbered. How can I use APA
with numbered sections?
2nd: The list of references include after the correct citation, the same
citation again in brackets (e.g. Tim, Tom, Peter, 1998. This is the Title,
Journal, p 1-10(The same again))??
Maybe there is some problem with Endnote import into Bibtex?

thanks for any help
Alfred

googling with the exact error message I found a gentoo bugzilla page,

This seems not to be true.

But I think there may be a hint how a can work around this problem

In LyX preamble used:

\usepackage{fancyhdr}

\lhead{\includegraphics[width=3.5cm,
height=0.7cm]{ImmaginiManualeCredito/logo.jpg}}
\renewcommand{\headrulewidth}{0.4pt}

Lyx1.6 Document class: Unavailable

2008-11-27 Thread Bigler Stéphane
Dear all,
After installing mytek and lyx_1.6.0 on a windows XP, all the documents classes
are unavailable.

I googled and none of the following helped me:

step_1) Make sure that the MiKTeX bin directory is on my system command path:
-> yes it is, I can launch latex from anywhere through a console.

step_2) Check if for example the class "report" is available.
At a DOS prompt, run 'kpsewhich report.cls'

and kpsewhich returns:
C:\Program Files\MiKTeX 2.7\tex\latex\base\report.cls
-> ok the class is available

Step_3) I checked in my home directory, which is:
C:\Documents and Settings\me\Application Data\lyx16\

and print an extract of the file "textclass.lst":

# This file declares layouts and their associated definition files
# (include dir. relative to the place where this file is).
# It contains only default values, since chkconfig.ltx could not be run
# for some reason. Run ./configure.py if you need to update it after a

Koma Script Letter (v.2) Lyx Example does not compile

Has anyone tried to use the French examples of KomaScript letters listed in
the wiki. recently? I am referring, in particular, to

ksl2nf.lyx
ksl2pro.lyx

listed at: http://wiki.lyx.org/Examples/KomaLetter2

when I try to view the pdf file, I get a couple of fatal LaTeX errors:

Class scrlttr2 Info: Letter-Class-Option `NF' loaded on input line 34.
(/home/stefano/temp//NF.lco

! Undefined control sequence.

I do not understand this error---most likely because I know next to nothing
about this class. But that's exactly why I am trying to use the example

Help greatly appreciated.

autocomplete question

2008-11-27 Thread Ivan Werning
I love having an autocomplete in LyX 1.6. However, it doesn't seem to
remember at all what the completions I want are. It seems to change
what the first suggestion is too in ways that I cannot understand.
Both things makes it hard to use. (your mind expects it to
autocomplete to the previous one and you hit tab quickly and get the
wrong completion etc...)

Is this a fair description of the current implementation? Is there any
way to get it to know what the completions that you typically want are
or to learn them? Or at least have a consistent ordering of completions?

Well, it's bad form to reply to one's own messages, but here are further
information:

I can get the letter sample to compile if I change the language from French to
English in the Document settings. I suppose that's because LyX changes some
parameter in the LaTeX preamble it produces that would otherwise conflict with
other KomaScript settings. Is my interpretation correct? If so, what should I
do if I want to produce letter-templates for other languages in addition to
English?

Thanks,

I updated the Lyx KomaScript Letter2 files recently (2008-10-27) to make
them compatible with other languages and newer versions of KomaScript.
But, of course, you need to set your language in the preamble.

Which Lyx version and which KomaScript version are you using?

Cheers,

Stefano

3 column 2 page leaflet in lyx - How to achieve it ?

2008-11-27 Thread Julian Stacey
Hi lyx-users@lists.lyx.org
I'm trying to create a 3 column 2 page folded leaflet (what the
German call a faltblat & that a keyword for some google searces)
(papersize=a4)

I have been looking lots of places before I asked here, but now stuck,
any ideas or RTFM URLs or dummy leaflet sources please ?

I'm using lyx-1.4.5.1_1 on FreeBSD 7.1-BETA2

I previously lookied here:
  http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet/
  ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet.zip
which contains:
  102148 Dec 22 2004 leaflet-manual.pdf
   44696 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.dtx
 767 Aug 6 2004 leaflet.ins
  152621 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.pdf
  & http://www.uni-muenster.de/TeXdoc/texlive.unix/texmf/tex/latex/leaflet/
  has just
leaflet.cls09-Apr-2002 14:52 3.3K LaTeX-Klassendatei
But though leaflet-manual.pdf is a 2 page similar to what I want,
there is no source for it that I could copy & start changing.
& I dont know an email to ask for that.

   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{article}
   to
   #  \DeclareLaTeXClass{leaflet}

run reconfigure in lyx and restart lyx and leaflet should appear. You
might use some ert and the preamble to tune the class, but most basic
   functionalities should be there.

for more details check chapter 5. in the Customization.lyx that are
   shipped with LyX.

Which I did, but I'm totaly new to lyx, & could really use a bit of help,
like a dummy file in 3 cols & what to click to import !
(an Import type of "No Web" is far from intuitive!)

I have little idea, despite excessive clicking & scrolling of lyx
embedded help & http://lyx.org & wiki, whether this is possible, &
if so if I need to add extra software, & where its documented. If
lyx is capable of this ? Maybe for now I should just fall back to
vi of the raw .tex until hopefuly one of you lyx folks can throw
me a lifebelt ? :-)

Cheers,
Julian

Hi Stefano,

I don't quite understand what's going on either: it obviously does
compile for me in French. If I change the document language to American,
it still compiles. In this case, I get "Invoice no." instead of "Numéro

to German, I get "Rechnungsnummer" which is OK.
I looked at the Latex code produced in my french version around the line

I am trying to use that as well. And as a beginner i am stumbling a bit.

In the Left Header from the Environment menu i am providing my mailing

On the first line i am changing the environment to Left Header from Standard
and entering the first line of the address

On the second line i am changing the environment again to Left Header from
Standard and entering the second line of the address

When i view the dvi format i see that only the last line is visible.

Any Idea?
