displaying polytonic greek
Hi, I'm having issues displaying polytonic greek in lyx. Whenever I type a character with multiple diacritics, I only get a box instead of the character. I set the language to Greek and the encoding to utf8x. It doesn't matter how I input them, either. I've tried the Microsoft keyboard, multiple programs, copy/pasting from different sources, etc. No matter what I do, I can't get the characters to display. Any advice?

Disable Alt-f and similar?
Hi LyX users, every now and then, I happen to press Key-combinations like Alt-f r (for FileRecent) in my German LyX. unicode turkish problem
Thank you all for such a great program. I recently updated to 1.6.0 using alternate installer. I am using English version of XP all service packs installed. My problem is when I select Turkish at Language for non-Unicode programs in Regional and Language Options from XP control panel some greek letters in math mode doesn't display at the screen correctly (for instance alpha letter). When I select English every thing works fine in LyX but turkish character doesn't display correctly at programs like MS outlook. Revtex4 blocks bibliographystyle?
Dear all, I have a problem with using the Revtex4 (article) documentclass in combination with the bibliographystyle: Whatever Bibliographystyle (apsrmplong, unsrt, .. ) I choose, the reference titles do not appear in the reference. It looks like as if Revtex4 blocks the bibliographystyle choosen. If I choose another documentclass (like Koma-skript article) the references appear like I want it (with titles!). As this problem is not yet stated in the Revtex4 documentation, I thought this may come from an interaction between lyx and Revtex... Can anybody help me? Christian Lyx 1.6.0.
Re: All Authors in citation
Hi, 1st problem: the use of et al. this IS DUE TO APA! So how could it be different? In any case, as for I know, there is no style which manages a different behaviour, that is the use of et al. only for the second reference on. Anyway, try using the custom-bib package and create a personal style that suits you. This is not difficult: all instructions appear on the screen and you have just to select your preference among some optional choices. You could also use 3 other styles similar to APA: apacite, apalike, newapa The advantage is that in these three cases you don't need to use the APA article class, so you can use any class and then numbered sections, or what you prefer. 2nd problem: there must be some problem with the original bibliographic file because this problem is not a standard behaviour with APA. Open the .bib file containing your references using a simple text editor and check if there is somethibg which is not correct. Hope to be of help. This seems like a bug. In fact, from what I can tell, font-ital never does anything in the current code. I'm using font-emph for now, as you suggested. But I'm not sure whether font-ital and font-emph have the same meaning. It doesn't matter to me since both font styles result in the text being set in the same italic font when using pdflatex output, but maybe for other output formats different fonts are used. font-emph produces emphasis, whatever the existing font. Exactly what it does is determined by LaTeX. So emphasizing something emphasized makes sense. font-ital just turns on italics. You can italicize what's already italicized. Right, my point just was that for abbreviations like e.g. or i.e., an italic font would make more sense than to emphasize these abbreviations since they don't have to be emphasized imho. Anyway, maybe font-ital will be implemented (realized) in a future LyX release, font-emph works for now... Frank

autocomplete question
I love having an autocomplete in LyX 1.6. However, it doesn't seem to remember at all what the completions I want are. It seems to change what the first suggestion is too in ways that I cannot understand. Both things makes it hard to use. (your mind expects it to autocomplete to the previous one and you hit tab quickly and get the wrong completion etc...) Is this a fair description of the current implementation? Is there any way to get it to know what the completions that you typically want are or to learn them? Or at least have a consistent ordering of completions? -Ivan

3 column 2 page leaflet in lyx - How to achieve it ?
Hi lyx-users@lists.lyx.org I'm trying to create a 3 column 2 page folded leaflet (what the German call a faltblat that a keyword for some google searces) (papersize=a4) I have been looking lots of places before I asked here, but now stuck, any ideas or RTFM URLs or dummy leaflet sources please ? I dont know an email to ask for that. The only source is leaflet.dtx which produces the large ref doc leaflet.pdf, nice but I'd like the source to the 2 page too ! Well a dummy is not so essential as I have another here: http://www.berklix.org/bim/leaflet/newest/leaflet_e.tex That produces a .ps with 3 columns on 2 pages. ... Though not when using lyx When I import into lyx, I lose the 3 column effect ! Any Ideas ? I looked at http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-users@lists.lyx.org/msg52621.html Where in Dec 2006 Ingar wrote someone: As it works with latex you probably do not have a layout file that tell LyX how to use the leaflet class. These are not that difficult to produce, and as leaflet seem to be quit close to the standard article-class you only need to make a copy of the article.layoutfile to fit your need. All you (probably) have to do is to find where LyX has a file called article.layout and make a copy, calling it leaflet.layout in the same directory as article.layout. Open leaflet.layout in your favorite texteditor and change second line # \DeclareLaTeXClass{article} to # \DeclareLaTeXClass{leaflet} run reconfigure in lyx and restart lyx and leaflet should appear. You might use some ert and the preamble to tune the class, but most basic functionalities should be there. for more details check chapter 5. in the Customization.lyx that are shipped with LyX. Which I did, but I'm totaly new to lyx, could really use a bit of help, like a dummy file in 3 cols what to click to import ! (an Import type of No Web is far from intuitive!) I have little idea, despite excessive clicking scrolling of lyx embedded help http://lyx.org wiki, whether this is possible, if so if I need to add extra software, where its documented. If lyx is capable of this ? Maybe for now I should just fall back to vi of the raw .tex until hopefuly one of you lyx folks can throw me a lifebelt ? :-) Cheers, Julian -- Julian Stacey: BSDUnixLinux C Prog Admin SysEng Consult Munich www.berklix.com Mail plain ASCII text. displaying polytonic greek
Any advice?

Frank

I'm using lyx-1.4.5.1_1 on FreeBSD 7.1-BETA2 I previously lookied here: http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet/ ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet.zip which contains: 102148 Dec 22 2004 leaflet-manual.pdf 44696 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.dtx 767 Aug 6 2004 leaflet.ins 152621 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.pdf http://www.uni-muenster.de/TeXdoc/texlive.unix/texmf/tex/latex/leaflet/ has just leaflet.cls09-Apr-2002 14:52 3.3K LaTeX-Klassendatei But though leaflet-manual.pdf is a 2 page similar to what I want, there is no source for it that I could copy start changing.
Any advice?

Right, my point just was that for abbreviations like "e.g." or "i.e.", an italic font would make more sense than to emphasize these abbreviations since they don't have to be emphasized imho. Anyway, maybe font-ital will be implemented (realized) in a future LyX release, font-emph works for now... Frank

Hi Jean-Marie, thanks for your extremely prompt reply. I am using Lyx 1.6.0 with the version of KomaScript that came with the installation of Kubuntu 8.10. I am not sure which version it is. The class file: -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 87668 2008-07-04 03:24 scrlttr2.cls seems recent, but there are no version information within the file itself. The problem I am encountering is rather peculiar: with the document language set to French (in the LyX settings), LaTeX does not compile the letter. If I change the setting to English, French, or German (the other languages I am interested in), everything seems to work fine. My rather limited knowledge of LaTex and almost complete ignorance of the scrlttr2 class is preventing me from identifying the source of the error. I can live with this, as my main languages are English and Italian, but I would like to understand what's going on. 3 column 2 page leaflet in lyx - How to achieve it ?
Hi lyx-users@lists.lyx.org I'm trying to create a 3 column 2 page folded leaflet (what the German call a faltblat & that a keyword for some google searces) (papersize=a4) I have been looking lots of places before I asked here, but now stuck, any ideas or RTFM URLs or dummy leaflet sources please ? I'm using lyx-1.4.5.1_1 on FreeBSD 7.1-BETA2 I previously lookied here: http://tug.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet/ ftp://ftp.dante.de/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/leaflet.zip which contains: 102148 Dec 22 2004 leaflet-manual.pdf 44696 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.dtx 767 Aug 6 2004 leaflet.ins 152621 Dec 22 2004 leaflet.pdf & http://www.uni-muenster.de/TeXdoc/texlive.unix/texmf/tex/latex/leaflet/ has just leaflet.cls09-Apr-2002 14:52 3.3K LaTeX-Klassendatei But though leaflet-manual.pdf is a 2 page similar to what I want, there is no source for it that I could copy & start changing. & I dont know an email to ask for that. Which I did, but I'm totaly new to lyx, & could really use a bit of help, like a dummy file in 3 cols & what to click to import ! (an Import type of "No Web" is far from intuitive!) I have little idea, despite excessive clicking & scrolling of lyx embedded help & http://lyx.org & wiki, whether this is possible, & if so if I need to add extra software, & where its documented. Re: Koma Script Letter (v.2) Lyx Example does not compile
Stefano Franchi a écrit : [...] Hi Jean-Marie, thanks for your extremely prompt reply. Cheers, Stefano Hi Stefano, I don't quite understand what's going on either: it obviously does compile for me in French. If I change the document language to American, it still compiles. In this case, I get "Invoice no." instead of "Numéro de facture" for the ksl2pro example. If I change the document language to German, I get "Rechnungsnummer" which is OK. I looked at the Latex code produced in my french version around the line that produces an error on your installation: \makeatother \usepackage{babel} \addto\extrasfrench{\providecommand{\og}{\leavevmode\flqq~}\providecommand{\fg}{ \ifdim\lastskip>[EMAIL PROTECTED] \begin{document} This compiles without problems here and my software version are: ~/Desktop$ latex ksl2pro.tex This is pdfeTeX, Version 3.141592-1.21a-2.2 (Web2C 7.5.4) entering extended mode (./ksl2pro.tex LaTeX2e <2003/12/01> Babel and hyphenation patterns for american, french, german, ngerman, b ahasa, basque, bulgarian, catalan, croatian, czech, danish, dutch, esperanto, e stonian, finnish, greek, icelandic, irish, italian, latin, magyar, norsk, polis h, portuges, romanian, russian, serbian, slovak, slovene, spanish, swedish, tur kish, ukrainian, nohyphenation, loaded. Hello forum, I believe that some of you have the simple cv class I am trying to use that as well. And as a beginner i am stumbling a bit. In the Left Header from the Environment menu i am providing my mailing address. On the first line i am changing the environment to Left Header from Standard and entering the first line of the address On the second line i am changing the environment again to Left Header from Standard and entering the second line of the address When i view the dvi format i see that only the last line is visible. Any Idea? Thanks in Advance Regards Sajjad

Is there any quick-hack to *move* chapter/section/subsection numbers off the main text-body, e.g. move it to the frame (well... left from the main text)? All of this is configurable via koma-specific commands. I don't use those classes often, so I don't remember them. But it's all in the docs. rh
