Wrapping text REALLY around a picture
Hallo list, I'd like to understand a fast thing I never considered but am considering now: is it possible in Lyx or Latex to wrap text around a picture for real? What if I have a transparent PNG and want the text to wrap REALLY around the picture considering transparency? Error exporting to plain LaTeX when doc includes pdf graphic
Dear LyX users, I have recently started getting a strange error when I try to export a LyX file to plain LaTeX via File - Export - LaTeX (plain). When I attempt to export, an error message appears reading LyX: Cannot convert file No information for converting pdf format files to eps Define a converter in the preferences As one might expect, I have only seen this error occur when the document includes a pdf file as a graphic. However, the error seems strange since I am not trying to convert anything to eps, just create LaTeX code. Despite the error message, the LaTeX file actually is created and seems to be correct. However, it (a) is annoying and (b) leads me to think something else may be wrong, so I would like to fix it. First of all, does anyone have any insight into why LyX would ask for a PDF - EPS converter when the requested conversion is not to eps? Second, does anyone know what I should do to fix this problem? I currently have two converters defined: PDF (pdflatex) to EPS: pdftops -eps $$i $$o PDF (ps2pdf) to EPS: pdf2ps $$i $$o Minimal working (and non-working) examples below. Other possibly relevant bits of information: I use LyX 1.6.4 on Windows XP SP3, with MikTeX 2.8 (complete version); the file is exported to pdf via pdflatex without any problems; this error started some time (but not immediately) after I began using the -epstopdf- package, however the error occurs with documents that do not include this package nor include any eps files. Re: Wrapping text REALLY around a picture
I use normally the command \vspace*{}and I try a balance between the width of the figure box and the margin between this box and the wrapped text. With something like this: \begin{wrapfigure}{r}{5cm} \vspace{-10pt} \includegraphics[width=4.7cm]{figure} \vspace{-10pt} \end{wrapfigure} You can change the values to deal with that you need. - Original Message - From: "Luca De Marini"To: "LyX Users List" Sent: Friday, November 27, 2009 5:23 PM Subject: Wrapping text REALLY around a picture Hallo list, I'd like to understand a fast thing I never considered but am considering now: is it possible in Lyx or Latex to wrap text around a picture for real? I mean, in lyx I can do something like that to wrap text around a picture but, in reality, I wrap it around a square into which there's the picture. What if I have a transparent PNG and want the text to wrap REALLY around the picture considering transparency? Looking at this page: http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX/Floats,_Figures_and_Captions And studying it, sounds to me it's impossible to achieve such a goal, am I correct? i'm looking for something like this, in the following page of abiword: "Tight Image Wrapping" * * *http://www.abisource.com/release-notes/2.4.0.phtml* * * *I'm not trying to do this:* http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dc/Latex_example_wrapfig_vspace.png I already know how to do it but that's not what I'm seeking ;) Greetings, Luca
First of all, does anyone have any insight into why LyX would ask for a PDF -> EPS converter when the requested conversion is not to eps? Many thanks. -- lyx file that exports fine to both pdf and plain latex -- -- does not include a pdf graphic -- #LyX 1.6.4 created this file. My usual way is to View>DVI, or export to PDF, or whatever, and then print that. It is possible to print from within LyX, but you probably want to check the exported file anyway...and all LyX does is export to DVI and then print that. rh
