The same (almost) here. In my case most of the .pdfs won't appear but
a few will do. But, as you say, the compile ok in the final pdf.

Copy the script convertDefault.py from

Comment out the lines

You have two choices:

- use the LaTeX-package soul and then the TeX-code command \st{your text}
- use the package ulem and then the TeX-code command \sout{your text}

Attached is an example LyX file. It is in German but you will understand
it anyway as you only need to understand the examples in the tables.

lyx 1.6.5 will not open lyx 2 docs

installing lyx 2 svn and changing a document that
I should not have.

Now I cannot open that document in 1.6.5 - I just
get an error message about lyx2lyx failure: the
lyx2lyx script failed to convert it

The option to export to lyx-1.6.5 does nothing that I
can discern (is it supposed to work?)

Am I just out of luck and must just by hand re-make
the changes or is there some way to get the document
to open in 1.6.5?

thanks for any advice,

I'm not positive what you mean, but if what you want is to have the PDF
file open with the bookmarks tab on the left collapsed, click Document
Settings PDF Properties, turn on hyperref support, and add
pdfpagemode=None under additional options. Alternatively, you can put
\hypersetup{pdfpagemode=None} in the document preamble. (Beamer

[solved] Re: Problem using old Lyx document

2010-03-04 Thread Michael Born
Thank you all for helping.

I had to invest much more time than anticipated, but... I now have two
pdf files of the old thesis - looking exactly like the printout. One I
obtained by putting the disassembled thesis into a copier, which scanned
it to a pdf (not very good quality).
In a virtual machine I got a Suse 7.3 running - haha, that was fun.
I could not find a Suse 7.2-iso. Suse 7.3 had lyx 1.1.6fix2 included
that was still to new and made a ps where some page numbers where shifted.
Finally I found a binary of Lyx 1.1.5fix2 on the very well maintained
lyx.org server (the Lyx 1.1.5fix2 sources gave me make errors).
Lyx 1.1.5fix2 writes the same \lyxformat 2.16 and produced a ps file
that looks identical to my printout.

I'm happy, now.

Cheers,
Michael

Yes. But in your files no page margins were set. The margins were once
created by the a4 package. The bug was that LyX once used such a
deprecated package. (a4 was already deprecated when LyX 1.1 was actual.)

My problem is that the library has this document (diploma thesis) from
2000 as a printout. Now, they want a pdf of this thesis and it should
look the same. Because a thesis is some kind of official document and
it's not allowed to change it afterwards. Thus, I would like to get the
same page numbers and table of contents from the .lyx document.

Then you have no other choice than to install LyX 1.1 AND an old
 TeX-distribution, I assume teTeX 2.0.2.
If this is not possible, have a look in forums to be able to use the a4
 package correctly.

With the document class changed to article (KOMA-script) the empty
 pages disappear

Yes, because this is an article class and because your document is
single-sided. If you need white pages, then at least use double-sided.

and the newpage lyx command is ignored.

I cannot reproduce this. This works fine in the LyX documentation files
 that also use KOMA-script.

After many trials with Lyx, a friend and I decided to do it directly
in LaTeX in the preamble:

%

% Controla los márgenes {izquierda}{derecha}{arriba}{abajo}.
\marginsize{4.5cm}{3cm}{3cm}{3cm}

I don't have any idea as why Lyx is not precise when margins are
changed. Printed region in an even page should be overlapped with that
of an odd page. We had to do it with the code above. Maybe somebody
has a technical answer on this problem. Until then, you can use this
snippet of code.

If this is not possible, have a look in forums to be able to use the a4
 package correctly.

Any clues about how to do it?

Make sure the document is set to Two-sided: DocumentSettingsPage Layout

Then try the default (which depend on your Document class), or set them to
your liking in DocumentSettingsPage Margins. Notice that It will ask you
for an Inner margin and an Outer margin, which is what you asked for.

Re: REVTeX 4.1 layout: alpha

2010-03-04 Thread Manoj Rajagopalan

Hi Manolo,

Thanks! I will attach the AIP sample (aipsamp.tex) that came with RevTeX
4.1, and my LyX port of that file (aipsamp-lyx.lyx) in a separate email to
you (too big for this list). I'll also attach PDFs generated from aipsamp.tex
and from aipsamp-lyx.lyx.

It would help if you could port the APS sample that comes with revtex to
lyx and compare the PDFs or DVIs generated from those. The easy part is in
applying the layout. The time-consuming part is in copy-pasting the latex
source and converting the tex markup into lyx equivalent. To speed this up
see the last appendix that I created in aipsamp-lyx.lyx (how to use lyx with
revtex).

Latest RevTeX 4.1 can be downloaded from http://authors.aps.org/revtex4/ -
they have already fixed a few bugs

At present, I am experiencing trouble with the \listofvideos command. LyX
properly inserts this command where I want it but my latex doesn't compile
and therefore my DVI and PDF are not being generated. Let me know if you
happen to see the same. If there is a bug we could file a report. The video
environment is a new feature that they have just begun to support.

If you have suggestions for improvement those would be welcome.

Thanks once again!
Manoj

The smaller inner margins are useful only on a perfect-bound book that lays
flat on the table. For something bound more restrictively, like staple
binding, you need a much bigger inner margin so you can see the beginnings of
lines on odd number pages and ends of lines on even number pages.

You can set the margins with the Book document class also, and probably all of
them. From within LyX, Document-Settings-Page_Margins, then uncheck the
Default box and put the desired stuff in Inner and Outer.

Mention features from the REVTeX 4.1 documentation
that should be tested (and fixed in the layout if
broken) before final release of this layout.

* New environment: video
* \listofvideos seems broken (latex doesn't compile)

Nicely done. See my other message about your compilation error.

* Using \cite instead of \footnote for footnotes as
the REVTeX guide suggests. So far \footnote works but
may not be acceptable by journals. Will using the LyX
 citation inset generate proper latex?

I don't see any mention of this in the revtex user's guide. I don't see a
problem with this. Revtex produces a .bib file from your footnotes and use the
bibtex mechanism. For submission you need to inline the bibitems anyway.

* New feature: structured abstracts using the description environment

This works (at the level of LyX) out-of-the-box. One can insert description
or other list environments and increase their nesting depth (using TAB or the
toolbar buttons).

* Test newly added support for arXiv.org in BibTeX

This should just work. More interesting are these features, which would require
changes in the LyX citation dialog (or use of ERT):

  - Multiple references in a single bibliography entry.
  - Prepending and/or appending text to a citation.
  - Online citation \onlinecite (this is not new in revtex 4.1, but maybe now is
an opportunity to implement it in LyX)

* Port the LaTeX AIP sample to LyX and visually diff the generated PDFs
* Port the LaTeX APS sample to LyX and visually diff the generated PDFs

This would indeed be a nice accomplishment.

Here is a workaround from a previous post

WTF? There is no such thing as ghostscript 8.7 on official Ghostscript site:

On the other hand there is not link on old site to new site:
http://www.ghostscript.com/

However on one of CTAN mirrors there is 8.71:
ftp://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/support/ghostscript/GPL/gs871/

Has anyone know whether mentioned bug is corrected in 8.71?

 You have two choices:

 - use the LaTeX-package soul and then the TeX-code command \st{your text}
 - use the package ulem and then the TeX-code command \sout{your text}

Attached is an example LyX file. It is in German but you will understand
it anyway as you only need to understand the examples in the tables.

Great example file!

Uwe, is there a way to sort-of-blur the cell-contents in a table so they
are not any more readable? Something like when you want to hide away
some results?

lyx 1.6.5 will not open lyx 2 docs

2010-03-04 Thread William Seager
Sorry if this is a duplicate but ... I made the mistake of
installing lyx 2 svn and changing a document that
I should not have.

Right. I'll try to spend some time on this tomorrow.

Yes, it works.

There should be a .lyx16 file next to the original .lyx file, which can

I'm not positive what you mean, but if what you want is to have the PDF

obtained by putting the disassembled thesis into a copier, which scanned
it to a pdf (not very good quality).

Yes. But in your files no page margins were set. The margins were once
created by the a4 package. The bug was that LyX once used such a
deprecated package. (a4 was already deprecated when LyX 1.1 was actual.)

My problem is that the library has this document (diploma thesis) from

I don't have any idea as why Lyx is not precise when margins are
changed. Printed region in an even page should be overlapped with that
of an odd page. We had to do it with the code above. Maybe somebody
has a technical answer on this problem. Until then, you can use this

Make sure the document is set to Two-sided: DocumentSettingsPage Layout

Then try the default (which depend on your Document class), or set them to
your liking in DocumentSettingsPage Margins. Notice that It will ask you

Manoj

 Hi, Manoj.

I'll be happy to help you troubleshoot the layout. If you have LyX files
that you want me to compile, or anything, let me know.

 Cheers,
 Manolo

  Hi lyx-users,

REVTeX 4.1 was recently released and all APS and AIP journals require
this format which may be backwards-incompatible with v4.0. I've the
extended revtex4.layout that accompanies LyX to revtex4-1.layout and am
attaching it. I request help with testing the layout.

I have ported the sample document aipsamp.tex that comes with the
REVTeX 4.1 distribution to a lyx file and the PDFs generated from both
sources are almost identical so I believe I have addressed most of the
  issues.

This list doesn't accept emails over 60kB so I am able to attach only
the layout. Should someone be interested in the other files, please
contact me directly by email at this address.

  Thanks,

title page using koma script book

2010-03-04 Thread Richard Brown
Uisng koma script book, and having on my title page only a title,
subject and authors, for some reason I get a white page after the title
page whereas I need to put the title verso there. I can't see any reason
why this is happening: what should I check?

TIA

Richard

Richard,

in the KOMA script there are also the Uppertitleback and Lowertitleback
environments. Maybe this is what you need?

Sure. Use the menu Document-Settings-Text Layout and use there a
vertical space of your choice.

Re: REVTeX 4.1 layout: alpha

2010-03-04 Thread Manoj Rajagopalan

Hi lyx-users,

I have created a new wiki page for this layout:

http://wiki.lyx.org/Layouts/Revtex4-1

Here I provide a link the layout file and list features to be tested and/or
implemented.

Thanks,
Manoj

Re: Setting page margins..

I have a problem with the definition of the page margins in a LyX document..
In particular, I would like to create a book-style document, where the
internal margin is always a bit bigger the the external one so that once I
print and bind it, the document will be easily readable.

It's the opposite: the inner margins of a book is always smaller than
the outer ones. I recommend to use the KOMA-script book document class.
Then use the document class option BCOR to specify the binding
correction your need for your book. The other margins will be calculated
automatically depending the on the font and the font size of your
document. Therefore use the default margins.

This method is also used for the LyX user's guide, so have a look at its
document settings as example.

A minipage before the ERT could do this (not extensively tested).
