I also prefer having the fontsize in figures equal to that of the surrounding
text.
If the special flag was set you encountered a bug, either in xfig,
fig2dev or in LyX. Otherwise just set the flag, and the text should be
typeset by LaTeX.
How does xfig find out the size and font I used in the document, or does it
make latex take it over?
To do that, you really need the special flag switched on for strings in
xfig. If you did not do it in your xfig files, you can change it quite
efficiently using update functionality in xfig gui, or by a script on raw
xfig file format. All strings are terminated by \001 so it is easy to detect

Hi, When pdflatex converts *.eps files to pdf I get errors that these figures can't be converted and are not shown in the final pdf. When .ps files get converted, their boundingboxes are ignored so figures are not displayed properly. This is a sign of corrupted eps files. Missing bounding boxes can be restored by program called ps2eps, http://www.tm.uka.de/~bless/ps2eps After correcting your eps, you can try to push them through epstopdf again. Hope this helps, Vasek

LyX is using ISO encoding internally, while Win are using Microsoft modifications which are incompatible with ISO. This directory is different in different systems, that is why I wanted you to see where is yours. On linux, my temporary directory is /tmp. So, files lyx_tmpdir? or lyx_tmpbuf??? are in /tmp on my system. On yours, it would be probably C:\Documents and Settings\... You will find lyx_tmp... files there. Vasek

This directory is different in different systems, that is why I wanted you to see where is yours. On linux, my temporary directory is "/tmp". So, files lyx_tmpdir? or lyx_tmpbuf??? are in "/tmp" on my system. On yours, it would be probably "C:\Documents and Settings\..." You will find lyx_tmp... files there. Vasek

Oh, that would be the classical problem of MikTeX, which does not like spaces
in filenames.
Save your .bst styles in another directory (e.g. c:\localtex\bibtex) and try
again.

When I install LyX to my colleagues I usually use LyXWinInstaller: http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller So far, I did not have any problems with it. I have heard some of my colleagues saying that they killed LyX when running Reconfigure and they were not able to start it again. In this case, re-installation helped them. So you can give it a try. $HOME/.lyx/layouts/ directory. (This is on linux, probably somewhere in
Documents and Settings in windows...).
That file does not come with default instalation. You can easily create one by
copying e.g. book.layout with the new name and then extend it to your liking.
The svmono.layout file I have used with lyx 1.3.6. is attached.
You may need to do some changes to adapt it for 1.4.x.

Hi Juan, which system are you using? In Linux it is a matter of distribution, e.g. on Debian it is sufficient to execute sudo apt-get install aspell-es. In Windows, it depends on the installer used. If you used LyXWinInstaller (http://wiki.lyx.org/Windows/LyXWinInstaller), the aspell program is already installed. I have seen similar problem on my colleagues computer, we resolved it using the workaround with PATH as described by Angus. To my understanding, the trouble is, that saving the full path F:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\acrord32.exe in the preferences, adds extra around it, so that it looks like F:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader\acrord32.exe and, when this is read by lyx, it appears as empty string (). Vasek then everything works for the duration of that LyX session. But when I exit the program, and reenter the program, no viewer is listed when I select Edit-Preferences and look under PDF. However, the viewer IS listed in the actual preferences file. For some reason, LyX is failing to load this preference from the file. I tried Angus' suggested work-around of setting the path to include f:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 7.0\Reader, and then just set the viewer to acrord32.exe. Interestingly, LyX IS able to load the path from the preferences file, and the viewer of just acrord32.exe just fine. It can remember the viewer when it is acrord32.exe but not the longer full pathname, which is certainly a bit baffling. However, when I try to view the pdf with those settings, it IS able to open the viewer, but cannot find the temp pdflatexed file to open. Argh! I dont know much about key-handling in win, so I thought I will use lyx mechanisms for key-binding. But I guess, the best think is to look for a proper windows keyboard layout. thanks for info, I was not aware of 'xev', it's really helpful app. However, my basic problem remains... I was trying to set up lyx for a colleague who is working on Win. I dont know much about key-handling in win, so I thought I will use lyx mechanisms for key-binding. But I guess, the best think is to look for a proper windows keyboard layout. Basicaly, it is LyX frontend to \newcommand.
It is all well described in the User Guide (MenuHelpUserGuide), Section 5.6
Usedr defined macros in math mode.

Stephen, LyX and LaTeX are two different projects. In fact LyX is a frontend to LaTeX.
