I agree the best think for us windows users is to use jbibtexmanager to
manage the bibtex database and use cite reference within lyx to insert

Indeed, that's the problem. Since Vivek uses startlyx.bat, the path of
least resistance may be as follows:
1. Start LyX the usual way (with startlyx.bat), which also starts the X
server.
2. Stop LyX using the File | Exit menu option, but *leave the X server
running*.
3. Open a shell (bash) window and enter the commands from the web page.
Note: On my installation, at least, the startlyx batch file opens an
xterm window, but the paths seem to be screwed up -- it can't find LyX.
Being too lazy to fix that, I just killed it, opened a bash window (by
running cygwin.bat), and did everything there. In order to make that
work, there are a couple of extra steps. Either immediately before or
immediately after entering the FILE= line (but definitely before calling
lyx), you have to enter the following two lines:
DISPLAY=127.0.0.1:0
export DISPLAY
Then proceed as in the web page.

4. I believe there is a missing closing quote on the web page, in the
last command (which I presume belongs after $FILE and before ).
FWIW, I tried the commands on the web page (substituting my login name
for jean). LyX started ok, but the file never loaded. On Claus
Hentschel's web page, I'm pretty sure he notes that commands requiring
pipes don't work on the Windows port. (Pipes on Windows are an
adventure.) (Like everything else on Windows.) After shutting down LyX,
the X server and the bash shell, I looked in ~/.lyx. The lyxpipe.in file
was there, and it contained the file-open command but not the hello
command (which I assume means that lyx had picked that command up from
the pipe).
_
Dear Paul
we are nearly there but not quite.
I did as above and see a new file created: c:\cygwin\home\Default
User\.lyx\lyxpipe.in

On pushing a selected reference from JBibtexManager it enters a line in the
lyxpipe.in document but nothing appears in the lyx window to suggest the
reference has been added.

On trying to push another reference I see the previously entered line in
lyxpipe.in replaced by a new line corresponding to the new reference I
tried to push but nothing in the lyx file.

I am close to making it work but not quite; what do we need to do let lyx
see and take the input from the lyxpipe.in file?

it also pushes the hello word to lyxpipe.in but not into the lyx file I
have opened.

see if the pipes are working in LyX. See

I tried the directions on the said page.
When using cmd prompt It doesnot recognise lyx as a programme or a batchfile.
When using Cygwin bash shell it cannot open a lyx file and says could not
access x windows
when trying to debug I get the message
$ lyx -dbg lyxserver

what should I do?

jbibtexmanager and lyx on cygwin

2003-09-30 Thread vsharma
Hi
Has anyone used jbibtexmanager to push citations into lyx running in cygwin?
I use the cygwin port and have found jbibtexmanager a very good tool to
generate bibtex from pubmed citations downloaded as xml, unfortunately I
have not been able to search select and push citations into lyx.
I am defining in the I have the following configuration Home is c:\data\lyx
Preferences in c:\data\lyx\.lyx has the following line
\serverpipe /cygdrive/c/data/lyx/.lyx/lyxpipe
In jbibtexmanager I have the lyxpipe defined as
c:\data\lyx\.lyx\lyxpipe
I wonder if this is an issue with running jbibtex in windows as a java
application and lyx on cygwin?
any help appreciated

Help with pagination

I use book(koma-script) class.
The Thesis is as follows
Titlepage
\frontmatter
Dedication
Abstract

\mainmatter

List of Figures
List of Tables
Chapter1

List of Abbreviations
Bibliography
The thesis needs to be numbered from Title page with arabic numerals.
When I use the \frontmatter, \mainmatter sequence to place the TOC
appropriately I get roman page numbers for the front matter how can I
change this to be continuous with the mainmatter including the TOC?
Secondly how can I have the List of Figures and List of tables in the
contents section?
Thirdly i would like the headings for the bibliography section to state
Bibliography rather than the name of the last chapter how can i get that?
thanks for your help

Lyx - error: cannot delete temporary directory

2003-03-29 Thread vsharma
I am using lyx 1.3.0 cygwin winxp professional
This has been reported in this list before
I have noticed the same for some time but it was not a great problem as i
did not get a complete crash and the files were reusable and it was more
like a windows nag
I have not noticed any specific behaviour that causes this
Has there been a solution to it now?
The error persists on installing 1.3.1 as well

Error converting into loadable format

2003-03-29 Thread vsharma
I am using lyx 1.3.1 cygwin winxp professional
This has been reported in this list before
I have recently made an eps file with powerpoint - acrodist using the
print to file method.
The file has a gif image
I have used the same method to insert graphics for over 50 images with no
problem
Now i have an error as above and cannot view the file in lyx
There is no problem now to see the file in dvi or pdflatex.
is this a bug?
I tried to see if there were any other convert.* files in \usr\local\bin
and renamed a convert.exe and a convert file to allow lyx to use the
windows version of imagemagick and this did not solve the problem.
I wonder if it is a specific eps file problem
Other old graphics using eps work fine and display fine.
any thoughts

Help Missing number, treated as zero float errors(solved) + new question

2003-02-27 Thread vsharma
I use ver1.3.0 Lyx support ver 1.7 on cygwin with windows XP Professional
All was fine until today I added about 20 new figure floats. some of these
were floats with two figures inside one on top of the other and these were
inserted with captions under the figures.
On running view DVI I got inundated with errors about 66 of them each
starts with the first error saying Missing number treated as zero some say
latex error not in outer par mode.
Can anyone help, i don't want to go to word with my thesis having come so far
Thanks
vivek
SOLVED
I used the package morefloats this is in ctan - misc folder.
I also used the package afterpage and put in the preamble :
\usepackage{morefloats}
\usepackage{afterpage}
and to flush all floats at a particularly difficult section used in Tex
\afterpage{\clearpage}
It seems to work for now but morefloats has limits - see documentation
NEW question for the lyx/latex gurus
1. I am sure i have read in this list some way using latex code to force
printing of floats within 1-2 pages of the section it is first placed in
otherwise to automatically issue the \afterpage {\clearpage command}
2. Is there some way to direct latex to shrink size of some floats by say
10-20% if it allows them to stay with the section and follow rule 1. I can
see this visually possible in my document but have not come across any
suggestions in either the Lamport book or the users lists.
thanks

and to flush all floats at a particularly difficult section used in Tex
\afterpage{\clearpage}
It seems to work for now but morefloats has limits - see documentation
NEW question for the lyx/latex gurus
1. I am sure i have read in this list some way using latex code to force
printing of floats within 1-2 pages of the section it is first placed in
otherwise to automatically issue the \afterpage {\clearpage command}
2. Is there some way to direct latex to shrink size of some floats by say
10-20% if it allows them to stay with the section and follow rule 1. I can
see this visually possible in my document but have not come across any
suggestions in either the Lamport book or the users lists.

Thanks

I used the package morefloats this is in ctan - misc folder.
I also used the package afterpage and put in the preamble :
\usepackage{morefloats}
\usepackage{afterpage}

\afterpage{\clearpage}

eps figures move out of page

2003-02-11 Thread vsharma
HI
I use Lyx1.2.3, CygwinXfree86 on WinXP.
I have some graphics produced by printing to file using powerpoint and
acrobat distiller
the graphics show fine on the lyx file but on the pdflatex output the
graphics are moved down and to the right cutting off the pictures,
unfortunately the eps file from powerpoint is too big to send as
attachement to the list
thanks

wmf2eps

2003-02-11 Thread vsharma
I use Lyx1.2.3, CygwinXfree86 on Windows XP.
I read in this list about wmf2eps utility, and tried using this as
indicated in the download instructions.
It seems to create a .eps file but as soon as i try to view it with
GSview4.3 (Ghostscript 8.00) for win32 it seems to cause the program to
crash and an error report generated for microsoft.
The writer of the software uses this in a unix OS
Has anyone tried wmf2eps in WinXP context? what can i do to improve this?
is there any other utility to convert wmf to eps for lyx purposes.
thanks in advance

!!Lyx Cannot find any layout description

2003-02-07 Thread vsharma
I use Lyx ver 1.2.3 on cygwin XFree 86 with Windows XP Professional

On trying to run runlyx.bat I get:
1. the x windows screen
2. a bash terminal
and
3. the message:
!Alert Lyx wasn't able to find any layout description. check the contents
of file textclass.lst

This seems fine and I have checked also checked
C:\cygwin\usr\local\share\lyx\layouts and the files are there as well

I attach the textclass.lst file which is my C:\cygwin\usr\local\share\lyx\
folder.

 I did reinstall Miktex, cygwin and Lyx but the same thing happens

I am still struggling

I hope i can sort it out by next 1-2 days or else i will have to go back to
word/Powerpoint etc UGH!
