The \thanks command really is a sort of footnote command:

\long\def\thanks#1{\footnotemark
\protected@xdef\@thanks{\@thanks
\protect\footnotetext[\the\c@footnote]{\@IEEEcompsoconly{\itshape
\protect\@IEEEtriggeroneshotfootnoterule\relax}\ignorespaces#1}}}

so that's probably why. Of course, that doesn't make it transparent to
new users what to do,
though it is illustrated in the template, I believe.

 Hi Marco,

So you can compile other documents to pdf (ie, your installation of
miktex and lyx were successful)?). Did you import your tex file into
LyX? On which system was your document compilable? What is your operating
system and version of LyX? These are all questions that you should have

It looks like you have a font problem. Have you tried changing the font?
Assuming the problem is where the error suggests, try changing the font
there. In math mode, to change font, click on the math toolbar (usually at
the bottom) on the button that looks like a 2x2 matrix of A's.

Does the document compile fine if you take out that line?

 Hi Xu,

 Thanks for the email!

my version of lyx is 2.0. Using texniccenter i have no issue in compiling
my documents to pdf with miktex...

My operating system is windows...my computer is new...

I tried to follow your suggestion but it still does not work...I have to
say that i am not an expert in these kind of stuffs but the issue might
also be related with the italian version...

do you have any other suggestions? even if lyx is open source, do you
know if there is a way to get lyx in cd-rom (I am willing to pay for this)
 ?

 Thanks again,

 Best,

 Marco

 Hi Marco,

So you can compile other documents to pdf (ie, your installation of
miktex and lyx were successful)?). Did you import your tex file into
LyX? On which system was your document compilable? What is your operating
system and version of LyX? These are all questions that you should have
 answered in your original email.

Marco,

The problem seems to be you're missing a font. Either install the font or
change it. You might have to export to latex (fileexportlatex(pdflatex)) and
look at the latex code to see where the file is trying to use that font.

Hi Marco,

So you can compile other documents to pdf (ie, your installation of miktex and
lyx were successful)?). Did you import your tex file into LyX? On which system
was your document compilable? What is your operating system and version of LyX?
These are all questions that you should have answered in your original email.

It looks like you have a font problem. Have you tried changing the font?
Assuming the problem is where the error suggests, try changing the font there.
In math mode, to change font, click on the math toolbar (usually at the bottom)
on the button that looks like a 2x2 matrix of A's.

Does the document compile fine if you take out that line?

- Yes, i can compile. if i create a simple new document (file\new) and then

- On the contrary, when I open a slightly more sophisticated document with math

window with several lines of errors and the related descriptions. I will try to
summarize the main errors (they are repeated for a large number of times):

and lyx were successful)?). Did you import your tex file into LyX? On which
system was your document compilable? What is your operating system and
version of LyX? These are all questions that you should have answered in
your original email.

You will probably find it worth your time to read the LyX Math user

Installing a dictionary doesn't instal Aspell. This is done by LyX's installer.

Herbert,

I have read everything I can find on \framebox and \vspace, and I have
tried putting a negative \vspace at different positions in the last line

Well, I just re-discovered that the proper command is \raisebox to adjust
the vertical position of a \framebox. Thought I'd add this so that future
list archive divers can find the answer.

Regardless, the tabular environment is the way to go for this form.

What happens when you create some german text (with plain text

If it fails, you do not have installed particular package (do you

Which of them you have -- decide for one and trash the other?
What happens when you create some german text (with plain text
editor in a file say filename.txt) and then you run this command
in console:

   ispell -dgerman filename.txt

If it fails, you do not have installed particular package (do you
have Max OS X or Linux; if the former, do you use fink?) with
ispell/aspell German dictionary. Do install it.

yeh, i got it to return the full path. so now it finds my style, but
still in lyx i get two errors per citation, one saying

and then one saying "\btxvolumelong{} the control sequence" ...

It usually means, that some package was not downloaded with
\usepackage command in the preamble. Isn't there something like
geralpha.sty somewhere around? If yes, then just put

\usepackage{geralpha}

to Layout/Document/Preamble.

WOW!! that did it! You just saved my day! i put in
\usepackage{geralpha}, but it didn't work, so i looked in lyx's tex
information tab and found it had the germbib.sty installed, so i tried
that one and it worked! thanks a million.

Looks good, but I couldn't find the "camel.sty" file.
 Any hint?

download camel.ins and camel.dtx. than run
latex camel.ins

it extracts camel.sty

Where i find it?
Ah, I'm running Linux Mandrake 7.2.

I don't think you need camel (it is a bibliography package).
You only need index.dtx index.ins
