Re: ID tag editor for mac?

2013-04-04 Thread David Griffith
I have noticed over the last few days that you have been going through a
process that I underwent when I bought my iMac.

Essentially then I attempted to replace every function and utility I was used
to using on Windows with a Mac equivalent. I had limited success with this
project and eventually abandoned it. Once I invested in Fusion I found it
much easier to continue to run free Windows utilities that I was used on the
mac. I have for example, never found a suitable replacement for Mp3Tag on the
Mac, I never found a free file renumber that was as good as bulk renamer ,
never found a free daisy book generator, and so on.
This worried me for a while.
In practice this is not a problem as I can run all these free utilities under
Fusion window on the Mac.

I now take the approach that there are some things that the Mac does that are
better than Windows and use the Mac to explore what these are. My own view in
that in the area of free accessible utilities there is much more
choice and functionality on the Windows platform. With Fusion on the Mac you
can realistically have access to both. of these.

Similarly I decided not to use computers of any description fro listening to
Audio Books as there are better devices for doing this with, whether it be an
iPod, or bespoke daisy device.

I wish you every luck with your hunt. I would recommen d Apple Vis as a good
source of recommendations for not just iOS Apps but also MacApps, so you may
also want to look there.

Re: DigitEyes and IPhone 4s

2013-04-04 Thread Esther
Hi Paula,

Have you used barcode scanning apps before? The DigitEyes web site does have
lots of good tips, but the main problem is locating the barcode. I know of
some users who were learning to use DigitEyes, first used the free RedLaser
barcode scanner app to locate the barcode. That app is very fast, and is
easier to use to locate a barcode. The problem for international users is that
it's mainly set up to identify products in the U.S., and won't get you access
to the databases that DigitEyes has -- for example, for products in Australia.
But if you're starting to learn to use DigitEyes, and want to train yourself on
how far away to hold the product, how to move around to locate the barcode on
the label, etc, it certainly helps to know where the barcode is! There are
also lots of tips and suggestions on the DigitEyes web site on how to scan.
Also, some places may sell these organizer storage racks that are designed to
hold a number of standard sized cans, laid on their sides,
in your cupboard shelves. This can make it easier to rotate the can under
your iPhone camera while you locate the barcode that is generally near the
seam. Because the cans are exactly sized to fit together on their side in the
rack, you can slowly adjust the section of a can that faces your iPhone camera
without having the can roll all over the counter.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Thanks so much for the tips. I will grab that free app and give it a go.
Maybe using both of them, I'll be able to get it to work. If not, I guess I
shall contact the developer and tell them it's not particularly usable.

Red Laser app

Hi All,
I downloaded a free app called Red Laser with my iPhone.
This is a QR code scanner, and it reads these squiggly symbols that give you
information, and can take you to a web site.
I tried it on a tube of tooth paste, and it not only told me what it is, but
it gave me pricing for my area.
I'm not sure if it also reads barcodes, but it is a very accessible app.

Re: DigitEyes and IPhone 4s

2013-04-04 Thread Glenn
It helps to have good light, I found that a florescent light works well.
Also, make sure you are finding the barcode, like on boxes, it is always on
the back, same with bags, so feeling the seams will help you locate the
back. On boxes, the corner seam that you can tell where the cardboard came
together, is on the back side.

Re: deleteing all files in I tunes

2013-04-04 Thread Sarah k Alawami
1. go to prefs, 2. go to advanced

3. go to the check box that says copy items played into iTunes library and
uncheck it.

Now hit ok, then go to your ptr section and remove all items in there.

Take care..

 Hi all,

I have over 15,000 OTR shows brought over from my pc. They are laid out

every time I try to play a show it stores them there. How do I get rid of the
files that are currently in the library and prevent this in the future?

 Thanks

Subject: Red Laser app

Hi All,
I downloaded a free app called Red Laser with my iPhone.
This is a QR code scanner, and it reads these squiggly symbols that give
you

information, and can take you to a web site.
I tried it on a tube of tooth paste, and it not only told me what it is,
but

it gave me pricing for my area.
I'm not sure if it also reads barcodes, but it is a very accessible app.
Glenn

Slightly OT: Ask a Question library service for the blind

2013-04-04 Thread Orin
Hi all,
Feel free to email me privately about this one. I know there is a free Ask any
Question type service for the blind where you can ask any question, primarily
something for research and they'll get back to you.
I want to ask them something related to my plot of a novel I'm trying to
develop in Scrivener.
Any help would be appreciated.

Re: accessible games for the MAC

2013-04-04 Thread Travis Siegel
As always when this question comes up, I direct you to my softcon mac
pages. There's regular programs, ported programs, and yes, even
games listed there. I have a couple new things I need to add, and
the front page could use a makeover, but otherwise, it's still as it
was when I put it up 8 years ago.

http://www.softcon.com/mac/
enjoy.
