Re: Now that blindmicemart (blindmicemegamall) is back . . .

2011-11-06 Thread johns.kary
Ok, what am I missing hear?
I go to the blndmicemart webpage and all I get is how to contact them and
nothing else.
I google the blind mice mart movie volt, and I get a page saying the movies
have been uploaded to sendspace, but no movies are listed on the page.
It says for our member's but there's no way to be come a member that I can see.
What's going on? am I missing something?
It's been an exceptionally long frustrating day, so it's entirely possible
the problem's all me, and I'm missing something very obvious. :)

stop saying "data detector"

2011-11-06 Thread Ryan Mann
Whenever VoiceOver finds an email address it says "data detector." I
understand why it does this, but sometimes it's annoying. Is there any way to
stop VoiceOver from saying this?

Thanks.

Re: apple remote desktop 3

2011-11-06 Thread Cody
Hety Tim, if there is audio throughput like in terminal services, perhaps I'd
be able to hear the other person's voiceover, then perhaps that could work. I'd
want to work interactively with a user over the internet…so i guess that won't
work…but yeah thanks for the input man

Re: garageband

2011-11-06 Thread Megan L
Hey,
Make sure that the first track is on bar one, beat one on your time line. Then
select your next track. You can either cut it, move to where you want it to
begin playing on the time line with your arrow keys, and then just paste it in.
Or you can hit VO command accent to start moving the item. VoiceOver should
tell you where the track's region begins, so just move it with VO right arrow
until it's where you want it to start playing and then press escape to stop
moving it.

Re: Apple VIS Campaign of the month!

2011-11-06 Thread Justin Ekis
Well, it would certainly be nice to do a large-scale campaign writing to
dropbox about accessibility problems with their mac software. However, applevis
is a site dealing with iOS apps. Since the DropBox iPhone app is very
accessible, they probably wouldn't persue this issue. Good thinking though.

Re: Now that blindmicemart (blindmicemegamall) is back . . .

2011-11-06 Thread Greg Aikens
Hi Christene,
Once you have opened the edit info dialogue, you want to get to the options
tab. There is a list of several tabs at the top of the window. Once on the
options tab there is a pop up box labelled "Media kind". If you want your
files to show up somewhere else, this is where you would change it.
Unfortunately, saving it as a movie is not an option for mp3's. I have mine
under music and list the artist for each as Blind Mice Mart. That way they are
all together.

Also, could you provide the link you are using to download stuff? As others
noted, the link is no longer on the home page. Also, the links I got searching
through google appear to bring up a blank page in safari and webkit.

Thanks,

Greg

The Blind Mice Movie Vault contains many, many audio-described movies and
television shows in mp3 format. I would like to get them onto my iPhone.
However, for some reason, when I download them, they are not being put in
 my
iTunes library. Is there a way to do tis one case at a time, or aother way
to get them onto my iPhone without resorting to the iTunes library? Should
 I
just "drag and drop" into the library, or is there some easier method? TIA.

Re: apple remote desktop 3

2011-11-06 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi cody,

ARD is accessible in most everything except when you are taking control of
another's computer. You can install packages, copy apps and/or files, text
chat, send Unix commands and a host of other things. The problem comes in when
you are Observing or taking control of another computer. These functions are
totally graphical, thus the APIs are not recognized between machines. Now,
maybe there is some sort of way to circumvent this but I've not investigated it
enough to make any informed comments. I've also never used it outside of a
given subnet. That is, I can do everything I need to do with ARD within my
site but if I try to connect to other computers within our organization that
reside in another site and thus another subnet, then they are not visible to
me. Again, there may be some sort of setting that will allow for that but I've
not yet found it.

HTH.

Type in braille app for iphone

2011-11-06 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello listers… I have found a pretty neat app for a typing allternitave. It is
called Type in braille, itunes link
is
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/typeinbraille/id474798075?ls=1
Here is the Help Guied from the website to help you get started using the app

http://www.everywaretechnologies.com/apps/typeinbraille/help

TypeInBraille Help

TypeInBraille is a mobile application that allows visually impaired users to
type using Braille symbols. To use TypeInBraille turn VoiceOver on.

How to Enter a character

In Braille, each cell consists of three rows. On each row there are two dots,
in one of these combinations: one raised dot on the left, one raised dot on the
right, two raised dots, no raised dot.
Four gestures are available to insert each row. You insert a Braille character
row by row. The iPhone touchscreen is vertically split into two rectangles, one
on the left, one on the right. The gestures are listed below.

One finger tap on the left rectangle: one raised dot on the left;
One finger tap on the right rectangle: one raised dot on the right;
Two finger tap: two dots;
Three finger tap: no dot.
Whenever you insert three gestures, each one corresponding to a row of the
Braille cell, the character is entered.

Example 1

Use the following gestures to enter the letter “a”:

one finger tap on the left rectangle;
three finger tap;
three finger tap.
Since some characters contain dots on the first and/or second row only, there
is one additional gesture to speed up typing: with the “one finger right flick”
you can specify that the character terminates. For example, you can also enter
the letter “a” as follows, using two gestures only:

one finger tap on the left rectangle;
one finger right flick.
Example 2

Let’s see another example with the letter “f”. Use the following gestures to
insert the letter “f”:

two finger tap;
one finger tap on the left rectangle;
three finger tap.
You can also insert the letter “f” as follows:

two finger tap;
one finger tap on the left rectangle;
one finger right flick.
Note that you can tap with two fingers wherever on the touchscreen. You are not
required to tap with one finger on the left rectangle and the other finger on
the right rectangle.

Example 3

Use the following gestures to insert the letter “l”:
one finger left tap;
one finger left tap;
one finger left tap.
Note that you can tap three times on the same position to save time.

How To: Insert a Blank Space or a New Line

Since a blank space is a Braille cell without any dot, you can insert it by
repeating three times the three finger tap. Alternatively, and much faster, you
can make the one finger right flick gesture.

To enter a new line, use this gesture: one finger down flick.

List of Braille characters

In the following we report the combination of gestures needed to enter the
characters.

Re: Question about e-mail

2011-11-06 Thread David Eagle
A conversation is exactly what we're doing right now. Basically, there are a
number of people all contributing to the same mail topic. Here's how it works:
find the conversation you want to read. Press enter on it or VO O to open the
message. You can scroll left and right through the messages with the cursor
left and right keys. The furthest right will give you the first message in that
conversation and you go through the later messages in that conversation by
pressing cursor left. To close the conversation press Command W.

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi again!
Well I've found that if all the tracks are tagged properly then it does not
matter how many tracks of a album there are!
They will all turn up in that album in grid view!
So you could have only 6 of a 11 track album but you can still get rid of them!
The only problem I've encountered was if a guest artist is named in the artist
field, then there can be 2 albums one with all the tracks with the artist name,
then another with the artist and guest artist and will only have that one
track in it!
Of course if the original artist has more than one of these best's then you
could end up with a few of those 1 track albums!

When you delete tracks from playlists you generally do not delete them

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Esther
Hi Paul,

Odd, but I don't have this problem. First of all, you don't need to select the
artist first if you want to directly select the album by title. That's simply
a convenience if you want to view a list of albums by the artist. This sounds
like a focus issue. I usually route my mouse cursor to my VoiceOver cursor
(VO-Command-F5) and then click with VO-Shift-Space when I am on the first entry
I wish to select. You can check what items are selected at any time with
VO-F6. If I then press Shift+Down Arrow, my selection is extended, and
VoiceOver tells me I have two rows selected. I can continue to hold down the
Shift key and arrow down to extend my selection. I can also press Command+A to
select all after that initial VO-Shift-Space.

When you do a VO-F6 after the first VO-Shift-Space, does VoiceOver correctly
identify the item you have selected? I'm wondering if this is a focus issue in
Lion, since I'm running Snow Leopard. Also, I was puzzled by a post Ray and
Candie made in early October about not being able to keep Mouse Keys on in
Lion. I'll explain that in some situations using VO-Shift-Space to click
doesn't seem to work. It's the software implementation of a keyboard click in
VoiceOver, so I call this a "software click", and it used to be that in apps
with transitioning accessibility (the early versions of iTunes and Automator,
for example, and in some third party apps) that clicking this way didn't
register as a click. (In the present case, it would mean that the track you
clicked on wouldn't be selected, for example, or announced when you checked
with VO-F6). However, if you click a physical mouse button, or press your
trackpad, or turn on Mouse Keys by pressing the Option key 5 times quickly in
succession when you have this configured under Universal Access options for the
keyboard, then pressing the "i" key on my laptop keyboard (or the "5" key on
the numeric keypad of a desktop keyboard for the Mac) works just like a
"hardware click" from mouse or trackpad.

Something similar did happen once for a version of iTunes in Leopard, when
using the column browser, for a very brief period of time, and we had to work
around the order of clicking and selecting. In this case, I might not see the
same behavior if this were a Lion-specific focus issue.

To answer your question about why you might want to use playlists, iTunes has a
very powerful feature called "smart playlists" that allows you to select
contents of playlists by rules instead of directly selecting individual tracks
or groups of tracks. The smart playlists support a feature called live
updating.

Here's a quick and simple example of how this would work. Suppose I listen to
an audiobook on my iPod nano, which only has a limited capacity. Further,
suppose that my files are MP3 files, because I want to use them on another
player that only handles MP3 files, and these files were ripped from the
individual tracks of an audio CD some time ago. I can create a smart playlist
for this audiobook with two rules: "Album is " and "Plays
is 0". I select all the tracks in this book from the music library, press
Command-I to "Get Info", and change the Media Kind pop up button from "Music"
to "Audiobook" on the Options tab. This switches the tracks from "Music" to
the "Book" library folder. I also set the pop up for "Remember Position" from
"No" to "Yes", which will bookmark the last played position so that listening
will pick up here when I start playing the track again.

In my iTunes library I can play this book from the smart playlist. My position
in each individual track is remembered, because I turned on "Remember
Position". Because I am playing from the playlist, I listen to each of the
book tracks in succession. As soon as I finish a track, the playcount for the
number of "plays" increments to "1", and the track rolls off the top of my
playlist, because the playlist is "smart" and is using the "Live updating"
feature to check the status of tracks.

Now consider what happens when I sync that playlist to the iPod nano (or it
could be an iPhone or iPod Touch). Only the tracks on the smart playlist (that
I haven't yet listened to) get synced over. When I play from the smart
playlist on that device, even though I'm not connected to iTunes on my
computer, tracks automatically roll off the top of the playlist as soon as I
finish listening to them. (They are still on my iPod, just not in my smart
playlist.) The live updating feature continues to work on the iPod, and always
keeps my current position. Further, if I sync my iPod again to my computer,
the smart playlist status will update so that if I play the smart playlist on
my computer, I can continue listening where I left off the book on my iPod.
Even better, when I automatically synced, all the tracks that I listened to,
that now no longer meet the criterion of "Plays is 0" get rolled off my iPod.
You can reuse t

Re: Producing electronic Braille field

2011-11-06 Thread Scott Howell
Gigi,

I do in fact have a Braille display and thanks for the tips. I'm actually
taking the course to help me along with setting up math problems. I could
probably just read over the Nemeth book someone gave me, but I thought perhaps
I could use a bit more help and a study guide might get me motivated as well. :)
Thanks,

Re: .brf book on voiceOver

2011-11-06 Thread Eugenia Firth
As far as I know, it's still on the Apple web site, at least it was earlier
this year. You have to go to accessibility, and then I think VoiceOver to find
it. I have the one for Snow Leopard, which I think is still the brf file. The
one I have is in two volumes, and Apple was letting us download without cost. I
bought the volumes from National Braille Press, I think for about $18.

Re: Producing electronic Braille field

2011-11-06 Thread Eugenia Firth
Hi there.
I not too long ago completed the NLS course on Nemeth Code using a PacMate to
create brf files.

First, do you have a braille display? You have less of a problem, I think, if
the goal is to teach Nemeth Code and not just to get yourself certified to be a
transcriber or a proofreader. Certain parts of Nemeth Code may have to be done
on a brailler because when you get into spatial arrangement of problems, then a
brailler is easier. You may not have to do that in a Hadley course; I had to
for NLS. So, once I got to where I had to do spatial arrangement, I switched to
a Perkins. I tried doing it with brf files, but I found getting the problems to
line up was a real pain without the brailler.

However, having said that, you might be able to do it quite successfully if you
turn off Auto complete so that your computer won't bother you. Then you can
turn on computer braille by setting your Mac on uncontracted braille and
turning on dots seven and eight so that you get computer braille.

I haven't tried to set the Mac to produce a file with a brf extension so that
other systems will be lied to and think they have a perfectly good braille
file. I've done that with Word Pad, I believe.

when I had to do it, I had to count the lines per page and put in carriage
returns where needed so that my lines did not exceed 40 characters per line. If
necessary, page breaks could also be put in where needed, too. I had to count
lines because my PacMate did not automatically make a new line every 40
characters.

Regards,
Gigi

Re: Now that blindmicemart (blindmicemegamall) is back . . .

2011-11-06 Thread Christine Grassman
Kristyn, I did as directed, but not sure exactly what I'm editing. If, for
example, I want it to show up in movies/videos, I would have to edit the path
where it states it's in music and the music library, correct? But when I
interact with this text, I can't change it. I did try writing in the title of
the movie as the album name, which then made it appear on the album list of the

Can anyone guide me further with this, off-list if necessary?

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Esther
Hi,

Colin's suggestion should work too, if it's a complete album.

Cheers,

Esther

 Hi Esther,
To clarify my last message, I forgot to add that once I have found an
album using the music browser, itunes will not let me select any tracks.
Usually, I can do it using the shift and vertical arrows, but this is not
possible after I narrow down the tracks listing inside the itunes music
table, by selecting an album using the command b music browser. Any idea
why shift arrows does not work? It would be the easiest way to find and
 get rid of tracks.

 Best, thanks in advance.

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Red.Falcon
Hi Paul!
Just for the purposes of getting rid of that album!
Why don't you change the view to grid and pick the album view!
I've got mine like this and all the albums are in order and all I've got to do
is open that album and select all and delete!
Album gone!

Producing electronic Braille field

2011-11-06 Thread Scott Howell
All,

I am taking this Hadley course and I have the option of Brailing the
assignments and mailing them to the instructor or sending them as Braille
files. I'm studying the Nemeth Code. :) So, how could I possibly pull this off?
I thought there was a software program that would convert text to Braille, but
is that sufficient for what I want to do?
Any input appreciated. Just figured it would save on postage and I have an old
Brailler that is rather testy and tends to make more a mess than dots and my
slate skills aren't such that I could produce results fast enough. :) Getting
slow in my old age.

Thanks,

.brf book on voiceOver

2011-11-06 Thread Brian Albriton
A couple years ago I ran across an actual book on voice over but have
lost track of it. I am getting some use out of the available online
help but if there is a book or two on VoiceOver I'd like to know.

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Esther,
Again this answer is worth saving for later reference so I did that, but I
still have questions.

1. I'm trying to find tracks, all belonging to one album from one artist,
present in my itunes library, and I want to get rid of them in itunes. Here's
what I do, but it fails.
1. Start itunes, go to the music browser.
2. Select an artist and then an album.
3. From the songs table, I hit vo command f5 to pull the mouse over to the vo
cursor, and then I click with vo shift space, just to get itunes focus into the
songs table.
4. Now, I move to the first song and I hit shift plus down arrow, keeping shift
down, and repeatedly I hit down arrow. This does not select any tracks, while
if I shift arrow down in the songs table when I did not use the music browser
before trying to shift arrow, selection works just fine. In other words: if I
open up itunes, and I start shift arrowing in the songs table, then selection
happens just fine. However, when trying to select tracks after having narrowed
down the songs table, by selecting an artist and album from the music browser
first, then selection does not work any more. Any idea what I'm doing wrong
here?

2. Why would you want to use playlists anyway? Are they necessary in order to
delete tracks? Only time I can think of, when a playlist is necessary, is if I
want to make an audio cd from selected tracks, because then, I must add them to
a playlist, in order for itunes to go burn them to cd. When wanting to delete
tracks from my itunes library, do playlists come into play at all?

Curious.
Paul.

Hi Paul, Doug, Aser, and Others,

A more useful general way to access your music in iTunes by Artist (or
Album, or Genre, or other categories) is to use the Column Browser, which
can be toggled on or off between the "Show" and "Hide" positions with
Command+B. You can configure this under the "View" menu on your iTunes
menu bar. Use either VO+M or the general OS X shortcut of Control+F2 to
navigate to the menu bar, press "V" to go to the View Menu, arrow down,
then press "C" or use arrow keys to move to the "Column Browser" menu

I usually use table view. After searching for the album tracks, you can select
all with command+a and move to trash.

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Esther
Hi Paul,

Can you select and use the Shift+Arrow keys in the songs table if you first
click in this table with VO-Shift-Space? First, I find that I can select the
album in the column browser and create the playlist directly from there If I
click on the selection with VO-Shift-Space and then press Command-Shift-N to
create a new playlist from my selection without having to navigate to the songs
table. If I want to create a playlist after navigating to the songs table
(e.g., I stop interacting with the column browser and navigate to the songs
table and interact), I'll first click with VO-Shift-Space and then navigate
around to do my selections, including holding down the Shift key. However, I
can only delete tracks if I select them from the songs table, and not from the
column browser.

When you delete tracks from playlists you generally do not delete them from
your iTunes library -- only from the playlist. If you want to force deletion
of tracks that you select from a playlist, you have to press Option+Delete
instead of just Delete. Then iTunes will prompt you with a dialog window
asking you whether you really want to delete these tracks from your library.

Hope this answers your questions. Write back if anything is still not clear.

Cheers,

Esther

2011-11-06 Thread Paul Erkens
Dear listers,
Because of the questions about dropbox alternatives, I did some googling, and I
stumbled upon quite a few. I went over the reviews on most of them, which I
found in an online Dutch magazine, and all of them are okay. Wuala, spelled w,
u, a, l, a, is a very secure one, see below, and as far as I think I remember
now, all have mac and windows support. Even windows mesh has mac support. Some
are lacking unix support, but iOS and android are supported on these services.
I think all of them are free. Some have 1 gb, 2 gb, and one even has 5 gb. I
recommend that you do the reading yourself, because it is so much information,
and it's already on the respective sites. So if you're interested:
Spider oak: www.spideroak.com.
sugar sync : 5 gb: www.sugarsync.com
windows live mesh: http://explore.live.com/windows-live-mesh-sync-p2p-using
sumo drive: for windows, mac, android and iOS: http://www.zumodrive.com/
Wuala: http://www.wuala.com/
Hope this helps. I don't know how accessible all their client software will be,
but this is a start. Interested to hear back from those of you who try these.
Paul.

Hi Esther,
To clarify my last message, I forgot to add that once I have found an album
using the music browser, itunes will not let me select any tracks. Usually, I
can do it using the shift and vertical arrows, but this is not possible after I
narrow down the tracks listing inside the itunes music table, by selecting an
album using the command b music browser. Any idea why shift arrows does not
work? It would be the easiest way to find and get rid of tracks.

Best, thanks in advance.

Re: itunes sort by artist

2011-11-06 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Esther,
Thanks for your as always thorough and clear response. I have been playing
around with the music browser a few days now and it seems to work for me. I
even cleaned up stuff I didn't even know I still had in my library, and I was
also able to correct a few genres.

I still have a question though. After I select an artist and then an album in
the music browser, why is it that I cannot select any files in the music table?
I want to delete an album once I found it. How do you delete an album once you
got it displayed?

Paul.

Hi Ray.
I too am searching for a DropBox alternative but haven't found anything as of
yet. I've contacted SugarSync about they're Mac app and have gotten a similar
response. I've also signed up for box.net but they have no folder syncing
capabilities unless you buy the business plan.
I'll keep continuing my search but am not very hopeful I'll find anything.
Hope this answers you're question,

Subject line asks it all. does anybody out there know of a good alternative to
Drop Box which will synch wiht local folders the wya Drop Box does? I ask
because, as I believe we all know, Drop box is no longer very if at all
accessible; and, to speak frankly, it looks to me as if the people over at
Drop Box couldn't give a damn whether or not we can use it. I say this last
not to be sinsationlists, but rather, to point out the sad fact that quite a
number of us have sent feedback to Drop Box complaining to them, (oh so

Re: Changing label in mail msg list

Ricardo, thanks for this. I'm still learning that section, but changing the
disclosure triangle's verbosity has helped. Lol, those 2 words right there are
a mouthful in themselves.

I'll keep playing around to see if I can shorten things further. I'd love it
if we could customize the order of items being read in the msg list and keep
the new mail layout. :)

apple remote desktop 3

2011-11-06 Thread Cody
Hey all,

I'm just wondering if investing in apple remote desktop version 3 is worth my
time, in terms of accessibility. My friend Geno, who just joined the list wil
no doubt need some help in the future on his mac. What I don't know is if I can
remote into his machine just like one would do with jaws tandem and take
control of his box and show him things that need to be done. For $80 it better
make my coffee, but does anyone have any experience?

The Blind Mice Movie Vault contains many, many audio-described movies and
television shows in mp3 format. I would like to get them onto my iPhone.
However, for some reason, when I download them, they are not being put in my
iTunes library. Is there a way to do tis one case at a time, or aother way
to get them onto my iPhone without resorting to the iTunes library? Should I
just "drag and drop" into the library, or is there some easier method? TIA.

Re: Accessible ebook reader for Mac

2011-11-06 Thread Esther
Hello Nektarios,

As Anne mentioned, you can avoid the VoiceOver crashes by just navigating to
the next page instead of interacting (Fn+Down Arrow to page down on my MacBook
Pro), which will also get you past the cover graphic. You do have to read by
page, but you can just press the right arrow key to do this for successive
pages, and you can make the font size small if you want more content on a
single page. Adobe Digital Editions Preview supports searching in the text and
setting bookmarks. It will work for reading DRM-free eBooks, or books that
have the Adobe ADE version of DRM, which includes books you can buy from Kobo
Books and OverDrive ePub books that can be borrowed by download through public
libraries in the U.S., Canada, Australia, the U.K. and some other countries.

An alternate suggestion for reading ePub books without DRM, if you don't want
to use the Copy Last Spoken Phrase to Clipboard (VO-Shift-C) and paste into
TextEdit, is to use iText Express. The Express version of iText is free, and
available from the Mac's App Store.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

I'm not tempted to try it myself since vlc does what I need but winamp for

Re: Accessible ebook reader for Mac

2011-11-06 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Nektarios,

If you just go to next page, it will read automatically, but if you want to
look at the text closely, or read with a Braille display, then unfortunately,
you have to use the Copy Last Spoken Phrase to Clipboard command (VO-Shift-C)
to copy the page into a word processor such as TextEdit. The good thing is that
you don't have to listen to the whole page before doing this.

Cheers,

Anne

2011-11-06 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello Anne.
How do you actually read something with this program?
I downloaded and installed it, but as soon as I try to interact with the text,
the program crashes on me.
Am I doing something wrong?

Re: Why Winamp?

2011-11-06 Thread Scott Howell
I have to concur that iTUnes orks perfectly and I have not had any problems
with it beyond some issues Apple introduced with the interface, but then fixed
within a reasonable time. The problems I have had with iTUnes has been of my
own making. Once you learn how iTunes works, I think you will find it to meet
nearly all of your needs. I have never found a need for any other media
software and if I needed to convert something iTUnes cannot play, no problem, I
have software for that as well. However, find I really don't have this issue
either.

Re: Flip4mac and Lion

2011-11-06 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hi,

flip works well on the Mac but, I don't think protected stuff will work. This
is a bit of a wrench thrown into flip if you ask me. I would try using
realplayer on the Mac and see if there is a option on the sight to stream using
that. Or, microsoft silverlight. Silverlight works but isn't accessible. The
media will start playing but you won't have access to the transport controls.

Unfortunately, the only way to develop for iOS is using Xcode, on the mac.
You can't develop straight from the phone, as far as I'm aware.

Hi Guys.
My sighted husband is also thinking about learning to be a developer of
iPhone and/or iPad devices. He does not have a Mac. I can't let him use mine
because I need mine all the time for my business. He went to iTunes U and
downloaded one of the lessons to his iPhone. The professor on there said
that he would need a Mac in order to send in his final program (I think I
have this straight.) If blind folks can put their program onto the iPhone
because the Mac versions are not accessible, how can he do this directly on
the iPhone and send in his program for them to evaluate it? I hope this
question makes sense.

RE: aspiring apple developer -- help!

2011-11-06 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi,

>From what I've read, and understand, people build their UIs all through
code, they don't use any sort of interface builder, since that's not
accessible at this current time. I'm also learning to develop for iOS as
well. Also, the iOS simulator isn't' currently accessible, so people just
put the compiled apps straight on the phone.

hi.
the best will be to start using the dummies books, and this is not meant in
any sarcastic manner. The reason might be that the books if there are any "
have not checked" might explain in depth to you why you are doing as you
are.
also a little know how about C will not hurt you the smallest. :) i wish you
good luck.

Flip4mac and Lion

2011-11-06 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Dear Listers,

Does anyone know whether Flip4Mac works well with Lion? I want to
stream audio in Safari but currently am not able to accomplish this
because of the lack of windows media player on the mac. What's your
experience and suggestions?

With best wishes

Andrew

Emulating is not a solution, it is only a work around. And it is not
possible under IOS, I think. :-(

aspiring apple developer -- help!

2011-11-06 Thread Venkatesh Potluri
Hi listers,
I am doing my Undergrad in Computer science. I have been using VO on
the mac since 2 years and VO on the iOS since 1 Year. I wish to
develop apps for the iOS. I would like your suggestions on a few
questions regarding app development.
1. where do I start?
I visited the iOS dev center and found a huge volume of resources.
many books, and videos. but I am not sure about where to start and how
to proceed with learning the required platforms for development.
2. is the entire development process accessible?
what concerns me related to accessibility is the UI design for the
application and the mapping of the functions to various interactive
elements on screen.(interface builder) From a video I saw, I
understood that one will have to drag various elements to a particular
area and map each element to a controller function. is my perception
wrong? of it is not, is there a workaround for this particular phase
of development that makes this process accessible with VO?
3. How do I test?
I learned that xCode provides a facility to test apps by running them
on an emulator and provides various statistics about resource usage.
is this accessible with VO?
4. when do I become a member of a developer program?
I wanted your say about the appropriate time to become a member of the
apple developer program.
Is it better if I pay for It now or go ahead with it after I am
familiar with developing for the iOS platform.
I apologize if this mail was too long and I thank you for reading
through the entire mail :)
Any answers will be of great help.

Thank you.
Cheers

Re: Accessible ebook reader for Mac

Hello Francisco,

I use Adobe Digital Editions Preview to read ebooks on my Mac. It can read some
protected books such as those from Kobo and it's free.

Here's the download link:
