Re: Xcode: adding navigation bars and bar buttons
Thank you for the help! Could you explain in a bit more elaborate way? Do I do what you suggested after adding in navigation bar? Moreover, is the procedure similar for adding a toolbar? Re: Text boxes in Pages?
Hello again, I just realized I'm having a problem. I saved the template with its placeholders in place, then made a new document based on that template. As I down arrowed through the document body, VO announced my placeholder text, so I typed in values for it. M text got inserted, but in the middle of the line and *without* replacing the placeholder! For instance, a line in my template looks like the following, where text in brackets is the placeholder: Client name: [client name] After I filled in my file, that line looked like this: clieTest Clientnt name: [client name] What did I do wrong, to not have the placeholder placed correctly? Vo spoke the placeholder text, so it picked it up somehow. It just didn't override it with what I was typing. Thanks for any suggestions. On Jul 26, 2015, at 3:34 AM, Anne Robertson a...@anarchie.org.uk wrote: Hello Alex, I think you’d find placeholder text a better way for entering text that changes. Just type in some typical text in the format you want, then select that text, press VO-Tab for VO to ignore next key press, then press Ctrl-Option-Cmd-t to make it placeholder text. When using your template, the placeholder text will be highlighted when you navigate to it using just the arrow keys, and typing will replace it but keep the formatting. Hopefully, this time, I can make myself stick with it long enough to get a handle on this thing. Currently, I have a few basic questions: I'm making a template I can use to fill out client reports and bills (I'm an AT instructor and have to email my clients this information). I thought I'd put text boxes in where I'll be entering text that can change, and just type the text that won't. Here's a super simple example: Alex Hall [auto-inserted date] Client Name: [text box for client name] Number of Hours: [text box for hours] You get the idea. I'm running into a few questions, though. 1. How do I get the text box to fit the height of the line of text it's on? VO reports that it's 1.2 inches tall, which strikes me as rather large. 2. Do I even need a text box, or am I trying to use one where a different item would work better? 3. If I do need one, how can I insert text around it? I inserted one, but even if I go to the end of the line and hit return, then type, the box is pushed along to the end of my new line of text instead of staying where I put it. Re: apple beta discussion group created!
I frankly know you haven't done anything wrong, and that's why I apologised. You took the quote, but, part totally out of context. I said what I said, and had you actually taken the time to read my message, you'd a known that. Just for the record, I said I was sorry for coming across so rudely. I totally agree initially that I over reacted in how I presented my original question. This said however, I'm not sorry for the question itself. That's all I meant by the but thing. I'm sorry for how I treated you, but not for my initial question. Is that too hard for you to grasp? Look, you created a list. I don't agree with it, I think you're violating the NDA, I've never once seen where it says you can discuss it publicly or with other testers outside the community forums, and each time I challenge any of you to show me where it says that, you say go read the terms. I have done so time after time after time and don't see any reference, and none of you ever take me up on my challenge, and show me word per word where it says this is ok. The point is, you obviously don't like me, you don't appreciate me, so why do you keep writing me! If I really am a troll as you say, then grow up, move on, leave me alone, and quit getting the last word for Christ sake! I said initially I was sorry, but then you had to come back with your remark that I went against what I said initially, which you damn well know isn't true! If you don't want to hear my comments, then block me, as frankly, I'm tired of the bullshit! I made one? comment, is it really worth this much list drama that you guys are producing? Get over it! Move on! The fat lady sang! You all keep complaining about me, and saying just ignore me. If you wanna be mature, then practice what you preach! Chris. Re: apple beta discussion group created!
Wow…cut the poor girl some slack? She’s only trying to give users of the public betas a place to discuss things that are confidential, and that shouldn’t be discussed on this list. Maybe, admittedly that was a little bit harsh how I said things, I'll give you credit there, and again, for that, I apologize, but that being said, do you really honestly think that you're going to be able to verify that each person claming they're running the beta is really doing so? Again, don't take this rudely, if you do, then I'm sorry, but the cold truth, whether you wanna hear it or not is, be a bit realistic here. I'm not trying to bash you here, though it may seem that way. I'm just simply asking what I feel to be a valid question. Again, the way I did so initially probably was quite rude, I'll confess, guilty as charged, but do you really? mean to tell me that you plan to verify every single person who subscribes? Really? I believe that another way to do a forward delete is by adding the function key to the backspace key. That's what I've always done, and I had forgotten all about control D. What happens when you hit backspace? To be clear, we're talking about the key above the backslash and below F12 and Eject, right? Once you get it, this system makes more sense, at least to me. You can configure it differently, but I honestly get confused when I try to use Windows screen readers nowadays, since I am more easily lost in the text than I am on the Mac or iOS. If you want things to work how they do in Windows, head to the VO utility with vo-f8. Select the Verbosity item in the categories table, then vo-right to the list of tabs. Vo-space on the 'text' tab, then vo-right or tab until you find the while typing speak popup. Hit vo-space, use the arrows to choose speak text to the right of the cursor, then vo-space to confirm. You may now close the VoiceOver Utility. I hope this does what you want; if not, something else may have been configured on your old Mac that I'm not thinking of. Re: apple beta discussion group created!
OK, I apologize. Really? Re: Insert current date in Pages template?
Hello Alex, Here’s how to manage date fields in templates in Pages. Go to the Insert menu and choose Date Time. Press Return (by default, Pages takes the Date and Time format from the Full definition in System Preferences, Language Region pane). However, you can change the date and time format as follows: Go to the last item then press left arrow to highlight the date and time. Bring the mouse and do VO-Shift-Space. You’ll hear the current date followed by “Pop up button”. Click this button to get a menu giving various forms of the date. Use VO-w to spell out each one and select the one you prefer by pressing Return. The Choose Date Format pop up window opens where you can change the date and time format as well as its values. The unlabelled button to the right of Set to today is the Calendar button. Tip: you can label this button using VO-Slash. In any case, click the Set to today button. Clicking the Calendar button allows you to set any date you like. Press Return when you’re done. So, when you open your template, you can get the menu for the date field and click the Set to today button and the format will be that which you selected for your template. Re: Insert current date in Pages template?
Thank you, that's a big help, if somewhat convoluted. :) I gather that Pages uses a lot of this mouse stuff, instead of making things more efficiently accessible? As to the date, is there no way to tell the template to auto-fill the current date when I make a new file? I now know how to insert and format the date, but if I make a file in October based on this template, can Pages not automagically put October 3, 2015 into that field? I can do it manually, I guess I'm just surprised I have to, if that makes sense. Re: word count in text edit
Hi Jim and others, What a wonderful tip that is. I have been running into mac versus unix files since I’m using mac and windows side by side. Word count, sort lines, convert from mac to windows formatting etc, wow. Thanks a lot. And for those interested: yes, it’s in the mac app store. Still exploring all its capabilities. Hth, Paul. Re: Xcode: adding navigation bars and bar buttons
Hi, First, you would embed the view controller in a navigation controller from the editor menu. You should then find a navigation item in the controller seen when you expand the controller. You set the title of the bar in it’s inspector and make connections as well. In the connections inspector, drag from one of it’s outlets, e.g., backBarButtonItem, leftBarButtonItem, rightBarButtonItem to the bar button you dragged to that seen. -BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE- Hash: SHA1 Honestly Chris, I do delete most of the crap you send. If it's not totally unreadable due to a really bad abuse of punctuation, it's just rude, childish and I've not really seen you be all that helpful. So here's a thought. Rather than telling the masses of people that are tired of your attitude to ignore you, why not figure out why so many have a problem with you? Everything I've seen you post has been rude at best (I don't even like snarky because that's an understatement). Now I'm sure you're going to respond cursing and screaming with a bunch of bad punctuation, which is totally fine, I'm just hoping this has a possibility of getting through to you. Re: vm fusion
Hey Wayne. If you're not in a rush, I would hold off on installing Windows 10 especially with Fusion. According to this article from Cool Blind Tech, some features of Windows 10 including Microsoft's new Edge browser aren't accessible with most screen readers except for the current NVDA beta. So it's a question of do you really need Windows 10 right now? Because if you don't, I'd suggest waiting until all the bugs have been ironed out. http://www.coolblindtech.com/stepping-over-the-threshold-windows-10-in-1-words-thoroughly-reviewed/ Shawn Sent From My White MacBook Facebook Username: Shawn Krasniuk Twitter Handle: shawnk_aka_bbs Skype username: bbstheblindrapper Facetime: bbssh...@icloud.com On Aug 2, 2015, at 1:33 PM, wayne coles wayne...@gmail.com wrote: hi list is there any thing I can do to install win 10 on my fusion only I was told that I cant do it is that right thanks in advance -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: apple beta discussion group created!
Daniel, You’re right. However, when a person decides to act outside of the bounds of the conventions that govern a societies behavior, he or she must should be called to task for their actions. When they refuse to modify their behavior or incapable of doing so, then they must be removed from that society. It happens everyday. Sometime, it can be accomplished through ignoring the individual. Unfortunately on the other hand, sometimes a person must be forcefully removed, as in being removed from a list. A larger example of this in the world @ large would be imprisoning an individual whose behavior endangers fellow citizens. The idea that no one is ever called to task or publicly ridiculed by the hive is both impractical and idealistic to a fault. But, come to think of it, it does seem to be the politically correct thing to do these days. Let’s consider the feelings of the offender over the feelings standards of the offended. Re: apple beta discussion group created!
Daniel, well said. I've been meaning to say something about this for about a few weeks now, but I decided to keep my mouth shut because I didn't want to get flamed. But since flaming has become an every day activity here it seems, I don't really care anymore. So here goes. Ever since the current moderator for this list, Cara Quin has decided to become M.I.A., I found that this Mac Visionaries list has gone down hill in terms of integrity. Everything from talking about pirating Apple beta software from basically bashing people and telling them where to go. If Cara decided to read some of these emails, guys, how appalled do you think she'd be? This isn't the Mac Visionaries list she created. This is the kind of BS that I would expect to read and she'd expect to read from the Zone BBS mailing list. And Cara, if you are reading this, I'd suggest you do something about this or hand the reins of moderation to someone else that will do something about it. No disrespect to you but this needs to stop. Moderation is important for a mailing list or it becomes a sea of chaos and anarchy like it is now. I thought this list was for the discussion of OS X and VoiceOver, not a stomping ground for ridicule and what’s turning into near constant immaturity? Just saying... Also, if you're going to criticise people for responding to get the last word in, it seems you yourself should think about that criticism as well? Re: apple beta discussion group created!
I think it has a while to go yet before it hits the anarchy stage. As long as there are people here to draw the line, or braille it, the list won't get all that bad, in my opinion. Its not as flamish as the BARD list, and they have like 2 mods, I think. Sent from my iPhone On Aug 2, 2015, at 8:49 PM, Shawn Krasniuk bbssh...@icloud.com wrote: Daniel, well said.
