Hi Chris! This is helga! How are you? I don't use Barnes noble website, but I
went to Safari in My Macbook Air and I'm able to move around the links! But one
thing, when I accessing the site, Voiceover was telling me the percentage of of
accessing the page, and it was acting a little weird, it was acting was that
every time it was telling me a percentage of loading! It was that it was
like estarering when talking, but after that when I move around the links in
the page, it works great! Hope this helps! I look forward in hearing from you
soon. Thanks and God bless! :)Hi

Hi, I don't know about all US, but T-mo internet plans are not "truely"
unlimited. You get an allotment of usage, but any company that has an
agreement with T-mo you can use without it counting against your monthly
allotment.

I choose not to use an iphone for reasons not at all related to coverage and as
such, I miss out on items like support for the 700 mhz and 2300 mhz signals.
As a result, my coverage outside the reno sparks area, in the detroit wayne
county airport, and some other places is curtailed.

What I do like about t-mo though, aside from truly unlimitted talk and text and
reasonable cell volume caps is the fact that I can roam to canada totally
unlmitted for free. I've been in Ontario for four months abusing the bell
network and I'm not paying for it because of t-mobile's canadian roaming.
That's outstanding value.

This is on an iPhone 6S+ though with band 12 (700 mhz) support. The
lower band has about 4 times the building penetration and twice the
over all distance of propagation than the band 2 or 4 frequencies
they normally use. Some areas had interference with television
channels though which delayed the roll out. Boston was one although
the issue with channel 51 in Rhode Island was resolved and the

the DFW area I believe. You also have plans for a 600 MHZ auction

Barnes and Noble web site driving me nuts!

2016-04-25 Thread Chris Gilland
Guys,

I'm not sure how many of you, if any use the Barnes and Noble web site to
purchase online books either digitally or whatever, but I'm telling you one
thing: I've not use the site in quite a while. Last time I did, it was
gorgeous, but now, to say it's a mess is an under-statement.

Every time I try opening the site with Safari, Crome, or for that mind, even
with Webkit's nightly build, Voiceover totally locks up going busy. A few
times, I tried navigating to the site, and it wouldn't even fully load. I had
to hit command+R to refresh about 5 or 6 times before it finally decided to
fully load.

When I called their support, they insisted it was an issue with my mac, but if
that's the case, then explain to me how come I'm having this issue on all 3 of
my macs, and also have the issue on my mom's mac mini as well. Obviously,
there is an issue, but B are refusing to admit it, which is a shame,
considering that their I O S app is so well designed.

Before anyone says, what's wrong with just using IBooks, I'll say there's
nothing at all wrong with it. I love IBooks. I just like having various
different EBook readers on hand. You'll never know when one may have a book
that another doesn't.

Anyway, is anyone else noticing this with the mac when you try going to the web
site? If nothing else, once there, try going to the account link. Then things
really will start to fall apart, I almost can guarantee it. If it does work
for you, it'll most likely be very very sluggish.

Chris.

It seems like T-Mobile definitely upped the game in terms of there LTE
coverage. I had there service for little over a year on my iPhone 5S, but by
now I’m sure indoor coverage is better. When I had there service the indoor
coverage was pretty bad. The benefits however were great, with now allowing

phone numbers, or other types of information, you can use that information in
other apps, such as Calendar or Contacts. For example, Mail can detect dates
and times in a message and suggest an event to add to your calendar.

Add events to Calendar

You can add events and invitations you receive in messages to the Calendar app.
If you have an Exchange account, you can reply to invitations sent from
Calendar, Outlook, or Outlook Web Access.

Accept a Mail suggestion: Click Add (you can review the suggested event before
adding it to Calendar). To decline the suggestion, click the close button .

Add events yourself: Move the pointer over a date or time anywhere in a message
until an outline appears around the information. Click the arrow, then click
Add to Calendar (shown only if you have already set up an account in Calendar).

Add events for an Exchange account: In the banner at the top of the message
containing the invitation, click Accept, Decline, or Maybe. If the event is
being canceled, click OK. To view the invitation in Calendar, click the
Calendar button in the banner.

Mail sends your reply to the event organizer and updates your calendar on the
Exchange server and in Calendar, when it syncs with the server.

Have Mail add events for you: Choose Mail > Preferences, click General, click
the “Add invitations to Calendar” pop-up menu, then choose Automatically.

Add information to Contacts

When you read messages, you can add email addresses and other contact
information to the Contacts app.

Accept a Mail suggestion: Click Add (you can review the suggested information
before adding it to Contacts). To decline the suggestion, click the close
button .

Add contacts yourself: Move the pointer over a phone number, email address, or
street address anywhere in the text. Mail outlines the information; click the
arrow, then choose an option from the pop-up menu. Or simply force click the
outlined information.

Add a contact from a Smart Address: Move the pointer over the Smart Address,
click the arrow that appears, then choose Add to Contacts.

Add a contact from the message list: Select a message in the list, then choose
Message > Add Sender to Contacts.

Add passes to Wallet

The Wallet app on your iPhone or iPod touch (with iOS 6 or later) lets you
store “Wallet passes” such as boarding passes, coupons, movie tickets, and so
on. When you receive a Wallet pass in Mail, you can add it to Wallet on your
iPhone or iPod touch. The pass is also added to Wallet on Apple Watch, if
Mirror iPhone is on in the Apple Watch app.

Hi Donna and Kawal,

I feel like we’re having a mini mobile speak reunion here. :). For me, when I
open calendar, interact with the day, and then press VO space on the event, the
very last item is a pop up menu where I can select accept, decline, or maybe.

Do you prefer twitter for Mac or night Owl? Are they both in the Mac app store?
I’m not personally concerned with needing the alt text. Someone asked me
because they are trying to add alt text to their images more often but prefer

Re: accessible twitter apps for Mac?

2016-04-25 Thread Daniel Miller
Hi Christina. Unfortunately, only night owl and Twitter for mac are the only
only accessible clients. I don't think Twitter for mac has been updated to
support the image description feature, and I know night I will definitely
hasn't, since that only gets updated once a year now.

What accessible twitter app do you use for Mac? Also do any Mac apps support
adding and reading alt text to images?

Thanks,

Re: 19 mb partition, where did it come from?

2016-04-25 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
As always, the best answer is to be found in Terminal. The diskutil command
has a number of subcommands related to partitioning. Type “diskutil help” to
see them. You should also check the diskutil man page, with “man diskutil|cat”.

In your situation I’d create new partitions from scratch with the “diskutil
partitiondisk” command. Type that and look at the usage help. If that’s not
helpful, feel free to follow up and I’ll give you more specific help.

Re: Selecting an option on the Social Security web site

2016-04-25 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Sandra,

Your trackpad does the same thing as the mouse. You can turn VoiceOver off and
press the trackpad to click the mouse. However, I just make sure that the
trackpad commander is off and click with the trackpad without turning VoiceOver
off.
Also, I installed a handy utility that allows me to move the mouse without
turning on Mousekeys. In VoiceOver Utility, under Verbosity/Announcements, I:
check the checkbox Speak text under mouse after delay, and set the delay to
zero. I can then move the mouse with the trackpad and hear where it is.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Typing Program

2016-04-25 Thread John Panarese
You have to navigate to the field sand buttons t first. You enter your name
and then start the program on the next screen. You have to listen carefully as
VoiceOver speaks the character it wants you to type and will say the next one
if you get it right. If you don’t, there is only the click sound. It works well
enough with the people I know who use it.

Re: T-Mobile squeaks out as nation's fastest carrier

2016-04-25 Thread Scott
No, you do not * have access* to 700 mhz with a 6+. Only the 6S and 6S+
support the 700 mhz band. The previous versions of the iPhone do not support
this band and support the 1800 to 2300 MHZ band for T-Mobile only so it won’t
penetrate that building most likely. THat’s almost certainly the problem. I
have a 6S+ and lock on to band 12 no problem deep inside large steel and glass
buildings with out issue. Also, the radio in general in the 6S / 6S+ / SE is
better and more sensitive and locks on to towers better than the 6. Each
iteration of the iPhone has had improved radios for the most part but the jump
from the 6 to the 6S was significant as was the jump from the 5S to the 6.

Re: T-Mobile squeaks out as nation's fastest carrier

2016-04-25 Thread gs
I am using an iPhone 6 Plus so should have access to the 700 Mhz band. I am on
the 50th floor and am not exactly certain how much that contributes to the
situation. Are cell phone antennas directional? I didn't think so but not sure
how the cell towers work these days. I'm only a few feet from the outer glass
edge of the building but admittedly, I am technically in an inner office. If I
get really close to the windows, there is a bit of signal sometimes but not
always by any means.

Thankfully, I have finally gotten access to some wifi that makes life a little
easier. For a while there I was not sure what I was going to do.

Chicago has something similar going on as does the DFW area I believe. You
also have plans for a 600 MHZ auction this year and don’t forget T-Mobile
interoperates with AT on 700 mhz so you can switch between networks if your
phone supports it.

If you’re working with an iPhone 6 or older that’s most likely your problem.

Re: Typing Program

2016-04-25 Thread waterwogster
How did you get it to work? I get to the first lesson and there are no
instructions. At least none that voiceover will read. If I move to the left, I
come across numbers and letters with images. There are a couple of edit fields,
but no clue as to what to type in them.

Re: 19 mb partition, where did it come from?

2016-04-25 Thread Andrew Lamanche
I run El Capitan and I have been having similar issues trying to partition an
external drive into three partitions. I ended up with 4 partitions - one of
them being only 6MB and yet I can't seem to be able to merge it into another
partition. In the end, I've left it as it is. I must have spent hours trying
to get the results i wanted. I find partitioning a disc quite a challenge.
I'm not quite sure what I'm doing.

Best wishes

Re: T-Mobile squeaks out as nation's fastest carrier

2016-04-25 Thread Scott
It depends on what phone you’re using on their network. If you h ave the new
band 12 support in your phone you most likely won’t have the problems you
mention. I work in a giant glass building with about 10K employees on 14
floors with an unbuilding Verizon repeater system and T-Mobile gets 3 bars of
LTE even in the center of the facility. This is on an iPhone 6S+ though with
band 12 (700 mhz) support. The lower band has about 4 times the building
penetration and twice the over all distance of propagation than the band 2 or 4
frequencies they normally use. Some areas had interference with television
channels though which delayed the roll out. Boston was one although the issue
with channel 51 in Rhode Island was resolved and the channel moved to 50.

Feedback on VoiceOver Accessibility in Numbers Version 3.6.X

2016-04-25 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi,

I have three issues to report with VoiceOver accessibility in Numbers version
3.6.X. All three have been recently tested with Numbers version 3.6.1 (2566) on
a 13" mid 2011 MacBook Air with 1.7 GHz Intel Core i5 processor, 4 GB 1333 MHz
DDR3 RAM and Intel HD Graphics 3000 384 MB.

1. VoiceOver no longer says column or row names when interacting with
column/row reference tabs using VO-shift-backslash. It only says the address of
the column/row (e.g. “column A”, “column B”, “row 1”, “row 2” etc) even if
there is a relevant header row/column. IN versions of Numbers prior to 3.6 it
would say the column/row name (e.g. “Date”, “Quantity”, whatever) when
navigating the column/row reference tabs if a name had been given in a header
row/column. It is better to have VoiceOver say the column/row names rather than
the addresses. If I am trying to move the “Date” column right of the “Quantity”
column, I want to know the names of the columns, I might not remember whether
the “Quantity” column is column G or F etc.

2. VoiceOver will not say the name of a table if the table has only one row and
one column (e.g. is only one cell). VoiceOver will refer to the table as
“column A table”. Interestingly, while VoiceOver clearly says, “column A
table”, when I “copy the last phrase to clipboard” using VO-shift-c, the text
pasted includes the name of the table as expected. So not sure what’s going on
there. It might be that the correct text is being displayed by VoiceOver but is
not being spoken.

3. Sometimes it will not be possible to navigate using only the arrow keys
after interacting with a table until first moving at least once with the VO
keys. This only happens sometimes, not all the time.

Re: Is there any way to accept an Outlook Calendar invitation in Mail?

2016-04-25 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi Kawal,

I am well, I hope you are, too. thanks for responding to my question.
Unfortunately, I'm on the other end of the equation. Someone sent me a
Calendar Invite in Outlook, and I needed to figure out how to accept it. I
never did figure anything out, but I emailed them back and confirmed the appt
that way, so all is well.
Cheers,
Donna

Re: 19 mb partition, where did it come from?

2016-04-25 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Hmm, weird. The only thing I can think is that you somehow jostled the slider
a tiny bit, and ended up with two partitions.

Anyway, yeah, just merge. Or better, erase the whole drive and just create a
new one that covers the whole thing, if that’s what you want.

No its not a vendors partition.
It seems to be a mac partition.

RE: Formatting a USB drive from a virtual machine

2016-04-25 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Grant,

I’m not sure I’m getting what your trying to do.

Disk Utilitiy is a Mac OS service / application, I don’t know that you could
format or partition a USB drive of a windows VM using disk util.

If you insert the USB to the mac and then format or partition the USB using
disk utilities and then connect the USB to your windows VM would this not do
what your trying to do?

You could format the USB under disk utilities as a FAT32 drive and then install
as part of the VM windows installation, however it will most likely want you
to reformat it as an NTFS file system

Hope that is helpful.

Subject: Formatting a USB drive from a virtual machine

Hello all,

In a VMWare virtual machine, I’m trying to use the diskpart utility to format a
USB drive so I can use it to install Windows.

When I try to do this, Diskpart gives an internal error and the drive unmounts
from the VM.

Has anyone had success performing this kind of hardware function from a virtual
machine? If not, is there a reason why it cannot be done? The device is, of
course, set to “connect to Windows” rather than “connect to Mac”.

Thanks for any advice.

Grant
