Re: Labelling Button not sticking in iOS

2016-06-22 Thread David Griffith
Thanks - very useful feedback. I think it has stopped me probably
knocking my head against a brick wall to no avail.

I will try contacting the developers.

I have seen that happen before. My guess is that it has something to do with
how that particular app is coded. I’m not familiar with Voiceover’s internals,
but I imagine it works like other screen readers in that it stores the bitmap
of the item you are labeling. If for some reason the app does not construct
the button in the same way every time, VO can’t identify it. The state of the
control, i.e. selected or not) may also affect the ability of VO to detect it
and you may just need to explore a bit more to figure out what’s happening. I
forget the app where I ran into this now but I finally gave up on it because
nothing I did made the labels stick. Unfortunately the best answer may be to
find another app that works better with VO, but it’s a good idea to get in
touch with the developer if you can and see if they will fix it. If they
properly label the buttons in the first place then you don’t have to mess with
it.

I have tried to re-label these buttons using the Voiceover two finger double

At first re-labelling the buttons appears to work fine after I have entered
the new label text and then hit the save or done buttons in the custom label
dialogue. However then if I close the app and re-open it all my custom button
lables have disappeared.

Obviously I want Voiceover to remember my newly labelled buttons as I do not
want to re-enter them every time I open the app.

Does anybody know what I may be doing wrong?

Mark and others, we may have a serious serious serious problem I'd like to apologize regarding!

2016-06-22 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Last night, a friend of mine who'll be left nameless recommended this service
to me called Mintvine, which you all probably on macvisionaries got the invite
to. Let me start by saying, it is a legit service, but that's aside the point.

When I clicked the link in my dashboard to send an invite to people in my gmail
contacts, I was under the impression that it would then show me a list of my
contacts, and would let me check only the individuals I wanted to receive the
invitation.

What it *actually!* did without my concent, nor control, was, it automatically
sent the invite to literally everyone! in my addressbook. Because of the fact
that I had the address to post to this list in there, well? Yeah... you all
guessed it. It sent to the whole list! Trust me! This was absolutely *not!*
what I intended to have it do, and you bet the last aching bone in your body!
that I reported this to their support team, and requested it to be expedited to
the absolute highest priority they could push it to to have that feature fixed.
They swore to me that within less than an hour, the issue would be fixed. It
looks like that promise was fulfilled, by the way. things look correct at the
time of writing this.

My point is, I am not a spammer, and I had 100% no! and I repeat no! no no no?
no no! intention of sending that to the list! None! Nada! I feel like such a
mortified idiot!

Anyway, so that is what happened. I am so! so so sorry! Really! I am!
Profusely! and I swear on my last dying breath! you all won't get anything
more like that from me on list, end of story, no questions asked.

Have a fantastic day.

Chris.

Thanks. In a way, it is kind of too bad they didn't have a mainstream book
with voiceover stuff in it. How cool would that be?

Re: Timer on lock screen.

2016-06-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
hi,

Some posts from two or more years ago spoke of this issue. The fix was to go
into Settings, General, Date & Time and turn 24 hour clock on. Set a timer and
it would be on the Lock screen. Most people would then go back in and put it
back to 12 hour and the Timer remained working as it should. Not sure why this
is rearing it's ugly head again as I've never experienced this issue myself.

Apple leaves IOS kernel unencrypted in most recent release

2016-06-22 Thread Scott Granados
Found this interesting article about Apple leaving their kernel code
unencrypted.  This allows people to examine the kernel and look behind the
curtain a bit on how things work.  Most importantly it exposes vulnerabilities
to public scrutiny.  It’s not known if this was intentional or accidental
although speculation in the article leans towards intentional.  Read more here.

Re: Labelling Button not sticking in iOS

2016-06-22 Thread Larry Thacker Jr.
If they
properly label the buttons in the first place then you don’t have to mess with
it.

Timer on lock screen.

2016-06-22 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
On my Iphone i use to have the timer presenting the time left on the lock
screen.
But since the latest upgrade this is not possible for some odd reason.
What i wonder is if its a Voiceover bug or if its something apple has done for
design?
What i mean is if sighted people still can see the timer on the lock screen?
Thanks in advance.

A Must-Have App for iOS News Junkies Living in the United States

2016-06-22 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

I am delighted to recommend the CBS Local app to you as it is VoiceOver
accessible. The only bug I have found is that VoiceOver reads one of the
two menu buttons, located in the upper right corner of the display, as,
"headphones, button". So, when you hear VoiceOver say, "headphones,
button," go ahead and activate this button in order to display the various
affiliate live streaming options in your area. The primary menu button,
located in the upper left corner of the display, is labeled correctly.

The primary purpose of this app is to keep you up-to-date via the local CBS
television and radio affiliates in your area.

Be aware that you may change the local area at any time.

This is a free app, the description and link to which I will paste in below
my signature.

Enjoy,

Mark
