Re: How to prevent my mac from displaying log in panel after few minutes of inactivity

2016-12-03 Thread Scott Granados
I haven’t had this issue but I’m running the beta. The power settings are set
to wait an hour before starting the display sleep process on AC and 20 minutes
on battery.

Re: bookshare

2016-12-03 Thread Michael Babcock
thanks for that,
I just wish i had more reliable navigation, and it could be that i’m just not
use to navigating books in iBooks as i think this is the first or second time
i’ve used iBooks on the mac; the iPhone on the other hand is very user friendly.
I am sure i’ll grow to love Bookshare and iBooks once i get use to this
workflow; just as i said in the OP i was curious if others had different/better
workflows!
hope all are doing well.

Hello,
What I can’t figure out is how to terminate a stream once it is playing.
Also we can’t get it to work on a Mac. After logging in, all we get is a black
screen.

Camera shutter sound is missing

2016-12-03 Thread Phil Halton
I've lost the camera shutter sound on my new 7+. I've checked everywhere in
settings and can find no where to turn it on. Any ideas where I can get the
shutter sound back? All weather sounds on the phone appear to be happening
normally.

Re: caps lock as screen reader modifier on Windows VM?

2016-12-03 Thread Chris Meredith
FWIW, I have the same setup but use the right option key as the modifier—but
that’s because the accent key, when shifted, means “home directory” in Unix.

 Hi all,
I have Windows running on my MBP using Fusion. How do I get caps lock to
act as a modifier for NVDA? Even with VoiceOver completely off, Windows
doesn't seem to see the key correctly. Narrator speaks it when I press it,
so Windows knows about it, but NVDA just won't use it like it should. What
do people do to get around this problem, or is it specific to this new Pro
somehow? I'm using Windows 10, Fusion 8.5, and Sierra. Thanks!

Re: Question about my mac and the extension for the transformer

2016-12-03 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I would not be too concerned, but I would not try using the shorter plug in the
mean time. There is a good chance you could trade it in fairly easily. If I
remember correctly from my stays in UK, the connector on the transformer is
like a UK plug connector in any case.

Best wishes,

Re: Hannah's first impression with first ever mac

2016-12-03 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
It really depends on what kind of training you get if one is going to take to
the Mac OS or not. I strongly believe, if you do your research and speak to
people who have a Mac, then you are going to get the best experience out of the
product.

I remember well when I got my first Mac, after having a row with Freedom
Scientific, and because of the hands on training I got for a week, I was able
to make that transition. Now these days I don't have windows at home and only
use it for work and every day when something goes wrong with my windows set up
I slag windows off because it's not responding or that I have had to restart
the machine because I can't figure what's gone wrong and not to mention, dear
Jaws has crashed. However, it's good that one has a choice as both platforms
have their good sides. For me it's because of computers I was able to get a
job and because of Jaws, I was able to learn how to word process even though at
first it was 5.1 with Hal and then windows 95. So I am extremely thankful that
I was able to have that opportunity to learn computers.

Re: How to prevent my mac from displaying log in panel after few minutes of inactivity

2016-12-03 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I'd expect that if you have it set to require the password after eight hours,
that it wouldn't do this, but take a look under the Energy Saver System
Preference. There will be two tabs in there, one for when the computer is on
battery power and one for when it's connected to AC power. the display is
likely set to go to sleep after about 5 minutes. This is a good thing for
saving battery life. In either case though, the eight hours should normally
override the need for the password. I wouldn't recommend leaving it awake and
unprotected that length of time anyway, but that is really your decision. I
usually recommend that the display goes to sleep after about five minutes when
on battery and the computer goes to sleep either 5 or 10 minutes of inactivity.
when on power adaptor, that could be changed. In my case, I let the display
go to sleep at the regular interval, but tell the computer to never sleep when
on AC power. Again, it's your choice, but for security purposes, it's much
better to have it require that password after sleep or inactivity.

Re: Question about my mac and the extension for the transformer

2016-12-03 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, and my sighted daughter just confirmed that there will be two choices of
connection for the UK as well. That is, one little thing connected directly to
the brick, and the longer extender that can be used if you remove the little
adaptor from the brick.

Re: Question about my mac and the extension for the transformer

2016-12-03 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Not sure if I totally understand. The MacBook Pro would have came with the
charging brick, and two methods of plugging that brick into the wall.
Normally, the two-prong connection is connected directly to the brick, and
there's an extension that allows it to be made into a longer cord. You remove
the one connector and replace it with the cord extender. Now, upon further
thought, this is the North American setup, the European system may be somewhat
different, whereby the extension is required. I'm not sure though. It all
depends on the configuration of the prongs for the differing outlet designs.
The actual brick is the same, I imagine that the attachments for each
country/continent is different though though.

Re: Clicking Tone As I Type in Richtext Editor

2016-12-03 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Look at "Enable Live Regions" in the web area of VoiceOver utility this might
help You could also attempt to turn down verbosity, for Web sites I use a lot
like GMAIL, I tend to find them better to work with when set to verbosity low.

Best wishes,

Re: Question, may be slightly off-topic

2016-12-03 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

If you can find an Airport Express, it should do the trick. It supports
AirPlay, and can send audio to your system either via a 3.5 mm audio jack, or
you can use that same 3.5 mm audio jack to send digital audio to the sound
system. Other than that, you may need to get quite creative with your setup if
your turntable has a magnetic cartridge. The rest are primarily good old
analog RCA connections.

Hi Brandt, Sounds like you're rocking old time audio! There are a few
options out there for airplay. Some a/v receivers have airplay. I
don't remember which ones but I'm sure you could do a google search
for it.There are a few floor standing speakers that have airplay
built-in but they would be hard to connect to your real-to-real etc.
Hope this helps! Jeff

Question, may be slightly off-topic

2016-12-03 Thread Brandt Steenkamp
Hi there folks,

I am building an audio system for my living room, and am looking for a way to
use air play besides an Apple TV.

I'm one of those crazy people that prefer to build a system piece by piece.
Thus, purchasing a prebuilt "Hi-fi" with a built-in docking station is out of
the question. Some of the components I require, is not available in prebuilt
modern hi-fi Systems anyway. (turntable, tape deck, real to real, 8 track, etc.)

Warm regards,

Brandt Steenkamp
