RE: looking for an app that will take a " pdf manual" and convert it to some kind of an audio book

2017-01-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Chuck,

I can’t say I do,

I looked at it a few years ago and then never followed it up,

I would expect there to be podcasts or how tos out there somewhere.

Sorry I can’t offer much more.

Hi Simon,
Thanks that sounds like a possible solution.
I've never used that app though.
Do you use it?
Any voiceover you tubes or pod casts for it?
Thanks again
Chuck

Hi List,
Is there an app that will take a "properly formatted" pdf and convert it to
some kind of an audio book where I can then drop in book marks for fast
locating of parts of the manual that I need to concentrate on?
I got audio book builder yesterday and imported an mp4 audio chapter that I
converted by using "ad to itunes as a spoken track" but after reading most of
the audio book builder manual I am not sure what to do with the track it made?
I'm guessing it needs to be imported in to itunes but not sure?)
Thanks for any solutions?

Thanks

2017-01-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi List,

I'm asking this for someone on another list who is a zoomtext user primarily

Has anyone got info that could help this guy?

I've given him details on vo utilities for somewhere to start

Cheers,

I want to be able to use voice over and zoom together like I do with zoom text

I want voice over to only speak when writing or reading text and not stop me

2017-01-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
Yeah installed this a couple of days ago,

Gotta admit I'm not a fan of the default Kiwi voice and the additional ones
aren't great,

The new one is the default first voice you get when turning on voiceover,

Sounds American
But I'm really keen to try the new iCloud find my earpods feature that is meant
to be in 10.3.

Overall I think things are quicker in ios 10.3

Re: Looking for a good backup, and restore program?

2017-01-30 Thread Nickus de Vos
Hi
I personally use Time Machine for local backups to external hard drive's, then
I also use CrashPlan for cloud backups of my entire machine and all attached
external drives. I believe if something is not offsite, it's not backed up, in
other words a drive in your house with a Time Machine backup on it isn't really
a proper back up.

I haven't personally use carbon copy cloner, but from what I always hear it's
definitely worth the money, and very good especially to make clones of entire

Re: Contacts in Sierra

2017-01-30 Thread E.T.

Tim and all,
I started working on this and have some questions. First, I found
most of my contacts on the iPhone had been linked. Hopw did that happen?
A change that came in iOS 10?

On the Mac, disabled sync in all accounts. While there, I noticed in
the Mac's Contacts preferences. each account shows "cardDAV". I do not
remember seeing this prior to Sierra.

That made me wonder. Does enabling sync for the non iCloud accounts
actually mean contacts for each account or just one? I have a Google and
a Charter account. What I am asking is, if I enable sync for all
accounts, will they access a single Contacts or is this for say, a
Google address book?

I have seen the truth and it makes no sense.

Hi,

Yes, that would work just fine. Just make sure that you turn off iCloud syncing for
Contacts in System Prefs first before doing any wiping, otherwise, you'll lose it all.
Also, when it asks if you want to keep a copy of your contacts on your Mac, say
"No". This should help to make sure that there's no duplicates when you
re-enable syncing of contacts. It should have figured that out the first time, but
computers do mess up sometimes :).

So before I do any more on the Mac, I will look at the contacts on my iPhone.
If that looks good, I want to know if I can safely disable syncing of contacts
on the Mac and wipe them then enable syncing again. Would that work? Thanks.

Re: Amadeus Pro: Working with Audio Unit Effects

2017-01-30 Thread Ray Foret jr
Actually, you can. IF you take the steps I outlined earlier, then you open a
batch processor, you need to select the actions tab. Now, there will be an
empty table just off to the right. Immediately off to the right of this empty
table, you will find an add action button. Just to the right of this is the
edit action button but that’s for later. Press the add action button. Now,
you will find that the screen will populate with controls which will allow you
to drill down in to any effect you want to manipulate for the batch process.

2017-01-30 Thread maurice.mines
Good evening everyone, I have an interesting, and perplexing problem. I am
looking to change which backup software I use. I have pours have Time Machine,
for disasters. But I wanted to try installing carbon copy cloner, but the trial
expired before I could install the trial. So that is out. I’m thinking about
super, duper? But does anyone have anything that they really like? Be curious
to see the responses?

A few, but very few, know where I am, and what I’m doing. One might also be
curious to know that I use a braille sense right now as a braille display, but
I’m probably going to switch to the human where braille display line just
because the displays appear to be better made. And that’s just personal
opinion. The real question is about imaging software on the Mac? Thank you all
very much in advance? I will look at this thread tomorrow morning when I get up
and again just before the class where I’m not have to make a decision download
and install the software.

Sincerely Maurice mines.

aspects of this message, they are the result of either the software or the

Re: looking for an app that will take a " pdf manual" and convert it to some kind of an audio book

2017-01-30 Thread CHUCK REICHEL
Hi Nektarios,
Thanks i grabbed the app.
I read the short manual but can't seem to insert tags to get it to change
voices.
Do you have any VoiceOver podcasts or youtube links for it?
Can you drag like the manual says?
Thanks
Chuck

Re: Problem with iCloud mail on iMac

2017-01-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

The Status area is listed just after the "Enable this Account" checkbox. At
least in my Mail Prefs. So, when moving with VO-right going from the list of
accounts, then the three tabs for Account Info, MailBox Behaviours etc, then
Enable this Account, then the heading for Status, which should be followed with
On-Line and Available. Continuing right, there should be the Description and
its accompanying field then eMail with the pop-up of aliases.

I just remembered that you're in El Capitan and I'm in Sierra, so it's possible
that the Mail Prefs have a slightly different look. I can't remember for sure.
If you wish, I can locate an El Capitan machine to confirm and see if the
comparable layout in El Capitan.

Later...

you say the following for the account information for the iCloud mail box in
the mail preferences accounts tab
1. Make sure "Enable this Account" is checked. 2. In the Status area, does it
read On-Line and Available? 3. Under the eMail pop-up, does it have all your
aliases listed?

I am not clear on what you mean by the status area. Using VoiceOver how do I
access the status area?
When you mention the Email pop up do you mean the alias pop up? If so this pop
up does indeed show all 2 of my aliases.
I tried turning off Email in iCloud preferences under system preferences and
then re-enabling it. that did not help.

Re: Naming Your Personal Digital Assistant

2017-01-30 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
Hmm, i have named my both mac computers.
So they probably will be the two first which are:
1. Spinning Jennie and 2 Lilla Louise where lilla is a swedish word for the
small or litle.
The therd name would be Kristina or Christina.

Re: Installing a softrware on another HD

2017-01-30 Thread Dan D.

One possible solution is in terminal. One can create a symbolic link for
an application or folder to another which resides at another location.
This is done using the "ln" command in terminal.

When the link is established the name of an app will appear in the
applications folder but point to where it actually resides elsewhere.

When a mac call is made to the applications folder to open that application
it doesn't know the actual location, in this case another drive.

Hmmm, this is in Sierra on my Mac, I can't remember if El Capitan had a
slightly different layout or not. If it's different for you, let me know, and
I'll go round up an El Capitan machine and give you more precise ideas.

Re: Contacts in Sierra

2017-01-30 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes, that would work just fine. Just make sure that you turn off iCloud
syncing for Contacts in System Prefs first before doing any wiping, otherwise,
you'll lose it all. Also, when it asks if you want to keep a copy of your
contacts on your Mac, say "No". This should help to make sure that there's no
duplicates when you re-enable syncing of contacts. It should have figured that
out the first time, but computers do mess up sometimes :).

Re: Accessible games for Mac

2017-01-30 Thread Nektarios Mallas
Hello there.
Speaking of rs games, I installed the client and tried to play a couple of
them, but it seems that the program skips various prompts and messages for some
reason, making these games very annoying if not unplayable.
Anybody else noticed this behaviour or am I doing something wrong?

Regards.
Nektarios.

it said it would, with no major accessibility problems I can recall. Plus,
it's only $5. I seem to remember a podcast on the app, but I can't find it

RE: Naming Your Personal Digital Assistant

2017-01-30 Thread Simon Fogarty
I've never thought of naming my computers or digital devices,
I have been known to call them names mostly not very nice ones when things go
wrong.

In this situation I can think of a number of names that would be funny but
probably upset femmonists or politically correct people,

I do like Marks idea of computer, Terminator would be another one,

Geeves another I could see going down well in a crowded room,

But one that would spark trouble with the aussies would be "Mate"
A commonly used greeting or name for a friend used both in New Zealdn and
Austrialia,

So you'd wake your device and say "Hey Mate",
 Or Gid Day Mate!

Subject: looking for an app that will take a " pdf manual" and convert it to
some kind of an audio book

Hi List,
Is there an app that will take a "properly formatted" pdf and convert it to
some kind of an audio book where I can then drop in book marks for fast
locating of parts of the manual that I need to concentrate on?
I got audio book builder yesterday and imported an mp4 audio chapter that I
converted by using "ad to itunes as a spoken track" but after reading most of
the audio book builder manual I am not sure what to do with the track it made?
I'm guessing it needs to be imported in to itunes but not sure?)
Thanks for any solutions?

Thanks
Chuck
