Hi John,

Yeeah I've used a couple of different service management / crms systems and
although they would probably do the job,
To me they would be to over the top for her.

I’ll have her take a look at this as well. She is doing the research, so she
is calling it CRM software. I don’t have any experience either way, so I’ll
take your word for it.

Thank you for the recommendation.

RE: The Mac startup chime is making a return in macOS Big Sur

2020-06-25 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi devon,

Trust me,

I can get pretty bloody loud on a new mac book air

I set one up a couple of weeks ago for a staff member at work,

I wanted to wipe it completely and start the image again from scratch and a
couple of times the volume went up to higher than normal and it was very clear
and easy to hear 4 offices away.

And that was a new 2020 13” mac book air.

True. The start-up chime is iconic. I remember my old Apple IIc had its own
chime sound. I was totally dismayed when Apple did away with it on the 2016
MBPs.
I too have restored the chime on my 2019 MBP 13 and my new mini.
Wish I could get it on my iPhone/iPad. That would be awesome.

Apple is officially bringing back the Mac startup chime with macOS Big Sur,
four years after removing it in a previous version of the operating system.
The classic Mac sound was removed from Apple's lineup of computers with the
introduction of the 2016 MacBook Pros with Touch
Bar. Ever
since then, macOS has been silent on
startup.
That changes in the first macOS Big
Surbeta. AppleInsider confirmed
the chime's reintroduction on a 2018 Mac
mini and a 2016 15-inch MacBook
Pro.
Based on social media posts from developers running the first beta, it looks
like the startup chime is widely available on other models, too. It appears
that users can toggle the sound on and off, since there's now a new "Play sound
on startup" option in System Preferences.
Apple first teased the chime's return during its WWDC 2020 keynote. While it
didn't actually confirm the fact, Apple's macOS Big Sur features page does
state that "system sounds are all-new and even more pleasing to the ear," and
were created using snippets of the originals.
During Monday's WWDC keynote, Apple VP of Human Interface Design Alan Dye said
that the new sounds are "familiar to the Mac, but remastered and more refined."
Although a software update in 2016 removed the startup chime, a later update to
macOS Catalina actually added them under-the-hood — though it required a
Terminal
command
 to actually enable them.

I know this is probably something you’ve done but
Have you selected the correct account type?
iMap obviously

and then ensure that you have the correct server and ports / encryption type
selected?

Even selecting the ssl rather than ssl / tls can cause things not to work.

It works pretty well for me as well. I’m guessing there could be plenty of
reasons for different results. The model of phone and the camera on said phone,

I can’t seem to get it to do what I want is reading the touch screen on the

I’ve noticed, not really with the short text portion of the app, but the
exact same thing you’re describing with the barcode option.  It seems to
be really quirky when trying to scan for a barcode, then when it finally
detects it, it displays the “text not recognized” message. So at this
point, I either just use the short text option and try to ID the item as
best I can, or if I need directions read to me, I just call an Aira
agent and have them read them to me.

I’ve noticed, not really with the short text portion of the app, but the exact
same thing you’re describing with the barcode option. It seems to be really
quirky when trying to scan for a barcode, then when it finally detects it, it
displays the “text not recognized” message. So at this point, I either just use
the short text option and try to ID the item as best I can, or if I need
directions read to me, I just call an Aira agent and have them read them to me.

Is anyone else having issues with the Seeing ai app? Its horrible for me. The
app no longer automatically finds text. I have to manually choose take a
picture, as well as it keeps saying nothing is visible.. I’ve even tested on
items I’ve read before.

I’ll have her take a look at this as well. She is doing the research, so she
is calling it CRM software. I don’t have any experience either way, so I’ll
take your word for it.

Thank you for the recommendation.

Re: Seeing Ai issues?

2020-06-25 Thread Jessica Moss
I’ve noticed, not really with the short text portion of the app, but the exact
same thing you’re describing with the barcode option. It seems to be really
quirky when trying to scan for a barcode, then when it finally detects it, it
displays the “text not recognized” message. So at this point, I either just use
the short text option and try to ID the item as best I can, or if I need
directions read to me, I just call an Aira agent and have them read them to me.

Re: Why the Mac's migration to Apple Silicon is bigger than ARM | Appleinsider

2020-06-25 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
One of the glories of homebrew apps on Mac hardware is that you can
still send output to your various media devices.

Life is not so on Microsoft under WSL. Though I wouldn't be without my
Ubuntu on my office provided Windows machine, I do see this demarcation
as a serious barrier.

Presumably, this won't go away on the new hardware platform, though it
will clearly require new drivers.

Best,

Re: Seeing Ai issues?

2020-06-25 Thread Phil Halton
I haven’t used it lately. I’ve been using voice dream scanner almost
exclusively for reading text. However, if all else fails, I have found that
sometimes deleting the app and reinstalling is the only option. Sometimes it
helps. Perhaps a recent update is the culprit but redownloading has worked for
me in the past.

RE: Customer relationship Management software that is accessible with VoiceOver

2020-06-25 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I'm not sure you are using the correct terminology here,

CRM customer relationship management software is what a call centre would use
for logging incoming / outgoing calls to service teams or customers.

If you are looking for something to log accounts / accounting billing related
information
Then may be look at something like XERO!

But going back to your cRMS question, have your person check out Dynamic 365
CRM,

It's an office 365 or Microsoft 365 package now that is available on ios
devices and through the web on mac computers.

It has gotten better with accessibility but I've not looked at it for about 6
months so it may have improved or gotten worse.

But check it out.

VoiceOver

Hi everyone,
Does anyone know of a CRM package for the Mac or iOS that is accessible
with VoiceOver. This would be for free lance people who need to schedule
invoices and keep track of their business easily. I have a client looking for
an accessible package and though I found an app called, Bonzai, the interface
on the Mac is really crappy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You can get the start up chime back now if you use the correct command

The Mac startup chime is making a return in macOS Big Sur

Re: Outlook on the Mac has been fixed for me!

2020-06-25 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi.

I have two questions to ask.

I tested it last night and noticed that Voice Over wouldn’t speak what I typed.
 Have you had that?

My second question is (on the windows version) you can put another email
address in the from button if you have it showing so for instance, I could put
my alias in which I’m writing from or my proper email address which is so and
so at me.com so how do you do that on the Mac version as I was
trying to find it.

Thanks for your help.

Kawal.

Re: downloading with Safari on a Mac

2020-06-25 Thread trevor scott
the way I do it is;
command option l, then it says clear. Tab once and you get the downloads, tab
once more and that’s where you find ou whether it has downloaded or not.
If it says stop then it is still downloading and if it says show in finder then
it is finished.
If you VO right arrow to the right a few times it should tell you how much it
it has downloaded so far.

Also, if you don’t want it to download to downloads, you can go to Safari and
command comma to preferences and change a lot of things and one of them is
where you want to download to.

Cheers

I'm still running Mojave. I'm downloading a file and I think it may have
gotten stuck so I press command-option-l to check the status and I get
things like "zoom out" and "make text smaller". seems like it might be a
focus problem. how can I get it to show me what I want to see?

 thanks.
