There's no need for any of this. When you order your new phone from the Apple
online store, you provide your phone number and your carrier and your phone
arrives ready to activate. It will automatically activate when you turn it on
for the first time. All you have to do is confirm some information and the
phone automatically activates. I've done this many times. It works flawlessly.

Hello Phil,

When you receive your phone from the online Apple store, you can either take
the new phone to your local Verizon Wireless store and they will activate it
for you or if you prefer, you can call Verizon Wireless and they can activate
your new phone, remotely, assuming you can provide the IMEI ID number of the
new phone.  The ID number will be listed on the side of the actual iPhone box;
not the shipping container but the Apple packaging, itself.

In either of these two scenarios, your current wireless phone number will be
transferred to the new phone.

When updating from an older phone to a new one, I recommend activating a new
SIM card rather than simply transferring your current SIM card to the new
device.

Phil, try not to overthink this, okay? Given that you want to stay with
Verizon Wireless, do not be concerned with whether the new phone is locked or
unlocked.

Just go ahead and buy your new phone, from the Apple Store, and all will be
well.

If you can, after receiving your new phone, take it to your local Verizon
Wireless store and they will get it up and running for you in a matter of
moments.

Good Luck and let us know how it goes.

Because I don’t really want to go to an Apple store I’ve been thinking about
buying a new iPhone and having it shipped to me direct. And, because I really
don’t want to mess around with changing out Sim cards from my old phone to the
new I’ve been considering just having the sim card set up and pre-loaded by
Apple. Sounds like a great solution for me but then I realized that that would
mean that my iPhone would be locked to the carrier for anunspecified period of
time. I’m perfectly happy with my current carrier and have no plans of changing
any time in the near or far future. What disadvantages am I looking at if I go
ahead and buy a locked phone versus an unlocked. By the way the carrier would
be Verizon. Sent from my IPhone

Re: New iPhone locked or unlocked

2022-03-10 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
An e-SIM may be an option in some cases, too. If you travel internationally,
obtaining a SIM card from a local carrier for the duration of your stay is
often better than paying what can in some circumstances be very heavy roaming
charges from your existing carrier.

Probably going to buy a new phone well my money still has purchasing power.
Going from a 10r to 13. And I’ll most likely have them set it up for me.

Re: Dropbox for Mac client, menu accessibility

2022-03-10 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Thank you – I’ll try the solution proposed. I also think they ought to fix the
menu invocation.

They have an accessibility page and a VPAT, but I couldn’t find contact details
for their accessibility department. In any case, I only have a free account, so
I’m not a paying customer at this stage.

Hi, I experience the same on my MacBook M1 Pro. I guess it's the new version
which eventually is compatible to the M1 chips. Unfortunately it's no longer
possible to see the status of up and downloads.
To open this menu it's not enough to use VO Space. You need to route the mouse
pointer there and perform a left mouse click.
All the best

Re: New iPhone locked or unlocked

2022-03-10 Thread Brad Snyder
iPhones purchased directly from Apple via the website or the Apple store app,
are always unlocked, and not tied to a certain carrier even though you may
specify a carrier when ordering your new iPhone.
I have purchased my last several iPhones from Apple this way, and can confirm
that the iPhone you receive is ready to go and not locked to my carrier.
As far as I'm concerned, this is the only way to purchase a new iPhone.

Re: Dropbox for Mac client, menu accessibility

2022-03-10 Thread Jürgen Fleger
Hi, I experience the same on my MacBook M1 Pro. I guess it's the new version
which eventually is compatible to the M1 chips. Unfortunately it's no longer
possible to see the status of up and downloads.
To open this menu it's not enough to use VO Space. You need to route the mouse
pointer there and perform a left mouse click.
All the best
Jürgen
