Re: New Member and a question
Hi George, Here is the instructions you wanted I found this in the mail archives Move vo to the mailbox in the favorites bar, then route the mouse there (vo-cmd-f5). Disable cursor tracking with vo-shift-f3, then lock the mouse down with vo-cmd-shift-space. add a copy to device menu in iTunes
Hi All, I have an idea for apple for I tunes when you are in your music books etc library and you have selected media to copy to your I device if instead of copyuing and pasting to your Iphone or Ipad or Ipod if they could add a copy to device menu choice when you are still in the library that you are copying the media from you would not have to move out of that library until you have finished copying media to your chosen device . Prep for Mountain Lion with New Take Control Ebook from Joe Kissell By Tonya Engst http://tidbits.com/article/13104 Joe Kissell earned his cred as an author who could explain the Mac OS X upgrade process back in 2003, when we launched the Take Control series with his “Take Control of Upgrading to Panther” ebook. In fact, that book spawned an entire genre of writing about how to manage the sometimes-stressful upgrade process. Since then, Joe has maintained his mastery thanks to countless hours spent considering upgrade strategies and testing installation scenarios, and he has helped many thousands of readers upgrade with confidence. The fruits of his labor are now available in his sixth such title, “Take Control of Upgrading to Mountain Lion,” along with a $5-off introductory discount offer. We’re also announcing a discounted pre-order of Matt Neuburg’s “Take Control of Using Mountain Lion,” which is the sixth edition of his initial Panther-related title and which builds on nearly a decade of experience to help Mac users who want to learn Mountain Lion’s new features, be reminded of existing and updated features from pre-Mountain Lion versions of Mac OS X, or strike a functional balance between the two. Of course, Mountain Lion isn’t out yet — Apple is poised to release it later in July — but Joe and Matt have been deeply immersed in the process of creating a pair of ebooks that will smooth your transition to Apple’s latest big cat. There’s no reason to wait for Mountain Lion to ship to start preparing for the upgrade, and “Take Control of Upgrading to Mountain Lion” is ready for you to read now, with a free 1.1 update that we’ll publish as soon as Mountain Lion ships and Apple lifts our non-disclosure agreement. For similar reasons, we can’t release “Take Control of Using Mountain Lion” until then, but you can pre-order it now and download it as soon as we can make it available. Both books are available separately with $5-off introductory pricing ($10 instead of their $15 cover prices), but they work together to help you upgrade successfully and get started with Mountain Lion’s new features, so you can buy them together and save $10 ($20 instead of $30). Read on for details. These offers will expire when Apple releases Mountain Lion into the wild. Take Control of Upgrading to Mountain Lion -- Join Joe for a pre-upgrade check on software and hardware compatibility. You’ll also benefit from Joe’s advice on making a suitable backup to simplify your upgrade or recover from an upgrade disaster, dealing with multiple Apple IDs, and deleting extraneous data from your disk so you can start using Mountain Lion with plenty of space. Joe also provides real-world guidance for handling these special concerns during what can be a stressful upgrade, especially if you’re upgrading from a pre-Lion version of Mac OS X: Managing iCloud: During your Mountain Lion installation, you’ll be asked for an Apple ID, but should you enter one? And, if you have more than one, which one? You’ll find advice for sorting out your Apple ID before you enter the installer. Upgrading from Tiger or Leopard: How will you download the installer from the Mac App Store on one of these Macs? What about Rosetta for PowerPC-based apps? Joe answers these questions and discusses the special challenges you’ll encounter when trying to upgrade efficiently from 10.4 Tiger or 10.5 Leopard. Considering FileVault 2: If you secure your data and documents with disk encryption now, or would like to under Mountain Lion, get advice on what to do before you upgrade and learn about the much-improved FileVault 2. Planning partitions: Read about what Joe thinks of partitioning and what you might want to do about it before installing. Choosing an upgrade method: With Mountain Lion, the default is an in-place upgrade, but what if you want to perform a clean install to wipe out any lurking directory corruption and ensure that your disk is nicely defragmented as well? Joe talks you through the differences. The 1.0 version of “Take Control of Upgrading to Mountain Lion” is 81 pages long. Once Mountain Lion ships, we plan to release a free 1.1 update

Re: Just about to give up!
Hi Veronica, I know this may seem a silly question are you using the outgoing mail server for your service provider for your internet connection for the smtp outgoing mail server because any mail will not send if you have not set your outgoing mail server as your internet service providers mail outgoing server e.g if you are using most mail server it will be mail.service_Providers_name.com for your incoming and outgoing mail server unless the mail server is out of the ordinary. Just a thought Oh and the ports for incoming pop3 is 110 and outgoing smtp is port 25. I feel so stupid when I read this list and see how much some of you are doing, yet I can't seem to get the basics out of my way so I can enjoy the more complex stuff. Okay, I did get Drop box to work. I found out that the Braille Sense OnHand is supposed to work with Macs once Mountain Lion comes out. I don't know. Is it not my time? I just wanted to write and see if there's anyone out there who understands where I'm at right now. I learned Dos. I'm quite good at Windows. I didn't have any trouble learning the iPhone. That was my first thought, but I assumed that you had tried to have him do that first. Gigi is correct, it helps to keep your fingers slightly curved as well as separated when you do the double tap. The other possibility for new users is that they have turned TrackPad Commander off, if they've also managed to mute VoiceOver. In that case, hold down the Control and Option keys, and make a rotor gesture in the clockwise direction with two fingers on the trackpad, then try the two-finger triple tap again. Alternatively, could this be one of the situations where VoiceOver is busy? This is more likely to happen in Safari, or perhaps in Mail if lots of windows are open, and occasionally in the iTunes Store. What happens if he uses Command-Tab to switch to another application, and then toggles VoiceOver off and on again with Command-F5? That should bring back VoiceOver even if it has been accidentally muted. Just trying to think out loud about possibilities. HTH. I agree that the trackpad on the Mac doesn't respond like it does on the iPhone. I don't have the same problem on the iPhone. I toggle this on and off by pressing FN+F10, but that's because under System Preferences Keyboard on the Keyboard tab I have the box checked for Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys. If this box is not checked, you would just press the F10 key by itself to toggle muting on and off. Alternatively, just pressing the key to raise volume (FN+F12, or F12) will also undo muting. There is a way to assign a key to the Mute VoiceOver Toggle command, but I don't think there is any keyboard shortcut set by default to that. It would be too devastating to come across this by accident. HTH. Hi Esther, I have had issues with our service provider for our internet connection and out internet went down for 8 hours yesterday I checked today and found that I now can connect to the server I have tried to connect with so I had all the settings correct because I just checked a few minutes ago and it connected in seconds very cool. Re: Keyboard shortcuts
Hi Jurgen, You can assign program short cuts by using the keyboard commanders in voice over utility and choose commanders and stop interacting and VO right arrow to keyboard and then VO Space bar and then VO right arrow to the check box that says use keyboard comanders and press Vo Space bar then Vo right arrow to the keyboard commanders table where you can assign quick keys to open your most used programs. You will find ones there for safari and mail by default the keyboard commanders uses the right option key then a key of your own choosing, but there are already some being used like s and the right option key for safari and m and the right option key for mail. First interact with the keyboard commanders table and check what keys are being used you can Vo up and down arrow to check which keys are already being used and to check which actions are being activated by VO right arrow to the action for each key so for example once you have interacted with the commanders table VO up and down arrow till it says the S key then VO right arrow till it says command open program safari, you can only use one key for each action. To add another action for two key press actions do the following. Stop interacting with the keyboard commanders table and VO right arrow to the add button it will then automatically land you on the keyboard commanders table press the key you want to use like I use the letter e for text edit, then you have to interact with the keyboard commanders table where you have just put the e for text edit then make sure you are on the e in the table then VO right arrow to the next section which is command menu press VO Space bar and then VO down Arrow till it says custom commands VO right arrow it will say open program press VO Space bar then VO right arrow till you get to the browse area then interact and find text edit stop interacting and then VO right arrow to the Open default button and there you go you have created a two key short cut to text edit . So to go to text edit you only have to press the right option key and the E key . You can do this for as many times as you want but you can only use 1 letter for each operation . I have done this for skype text edit Vlc player mac mail and safari and DVD player. Hope this is not to long winded . Labeliing Buttons in Navigons Points of interest where 3 buttons are not labeled on your Iphone or Ipad
Hi Everyone, Here is a way to label buttons that are not labeled on your Iphone or Ipad in particular Navigons Points of Interest section where 3 buttons are not labled. In Navigon go to the search for POI button and then single flick to the first unlabled button which is petrol stations do a two double finger tap and hold and it will beep several times and then a text edit field comes up and put petrol stations and then flick to save and now that button is labeled. Now flick to the second unlabeled button which is rest areas do the same as previously described but this label is Rest Areas. Then flick to the last of the three unlabled buttons and it is Food do the same as first described. If you have any trouble doing this i can run you through doing this easy process over skype. So I had the Apple Store folks look this over. It's very fast for them to do the fix if the card has come loose. But you have to push back the ribbon cable attached to the card, and make sure that none of the wires has snagged when you push down the metal flap and close things up, so I'd recommend that you have one of the Apple Store people do this check if it's easy for you to get to a store. I also found out during this visit that you can schedule appointments for the Genius Bar at your local Apple retail store through an online web form. The process is entirely accessible. Here's a link to an old post that described how to do this: http://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/msg19144.htmlhttp://www.mail-archive.com/discuss%40macvisionaries.com/msg19144.html (Accessibile Web Reservations with your local Apple Store) I think this pretty much still works as outlined.
