Hi Hem,

You know that you do have dictation on the Mac under Sierra. You can set up a
shortcut key to begin dictation. Using dictation to write this message.

Hello Leo,

You can select text between two markers in any text document on the Mac if you
do the following:

Click on this link to download Keybindings.zip

<http://cecimac.net/KeyBindings.zip>

In your Downloads folder, open the Keybindings.zip with Cmd-o.

Paste the resulting folder into your user library folder.

You should now be able to mark the start of your selection with Ctrl-Space,
navigate to the place you wish to end your selection and press Ctrl-x-x. The
text in between wil be selected.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi,

well if you red the question that started this thread, you'll notice that
basically your question and my question are the same. Though I wanted to copy
text from a web page, you want to copy from a text editor; in addition, as far
as we've been told, there is no way to place two marks in a text and
automatically select the text between them. Since this is the basic concept
behind the function that we are looking for, this probably cannot be done on
Mac, neither on a text editor nor on a web page.

Best,
   Leo.

make sure after pressing vo-return, not to stop pressing vo, then you can errow
to select as much as you want.

You can sorta do this if the text is in a block, but if there is graphics or
tables or even perhaps font changes I find the below method does not work.

1. Go to starting text and interact until it says interacting with text.

2. Press VO-return. VO says start selecting.

3. Move to where you want to end the selection while moving VO will make a
dragging type of sound. and press vo-return again. VO should say stop
selecting.

Now perform what ever actions you need on the selection. The good thing about
this, is if you somehow break the selection, the sound will stop.

Marie, don’t forget to plow through the getting started guide. You can find it
by pressing the help menu keys VO plus h. The getting started guide is down at
the bottom of the list. You might find some trouble in browsing at first, but
try to bring up the table of contents and you’ll find a wealth of information
about using voiceover on the Mac. Also check out the other items in the
voiceover help menu while you’re at it. I think you’ll find all you need there
along with questions on list you should learn quite quickly.

Marie,

You heard from John already. I recommend you visit his web site at
macfortheblind.com and look at his audio
tutorials. Many are cost-based, but there are about a half dozen basic
tutorials that are free, and are very well done. I learned a lot from John’s
tutorials, and also from those done by David Woodbridge on appleviz.com
(did I spell that one right?).

I did a lot of listening and struggling in my first 3 or 4 months using the
Mac, but am becoming more comfortable with the Sox approach.

I made it a point to become familiar first with the Mail and Textedit apps, and
then spent a whole lot of time learning how to get around in Finder. Calendar
and Contacts were a bit more difficult to use, and I’m still not comfortable
with Contacts.

Other places you should spend time poking around would be in the Voiceover
Utility and System Preferences.

And of course post your questions to this list. There are some real experts on
board.

I haven't used Microsoft Word for Mac very much, but it is clear that
accessibility with VoiceOver has been improved over time by Microsoft.

RE: Training for Word

2019-08-30 Thread Hemachandran Karaha
Hi Donna,

Thanks so much for such a detailed reply. I have an office 365 subscription.
Perhaps, I will try using the same on the Mac.

I don't necessarily need complex stuff such as tables and flow charts. I teach
English Literature in a University. All I will need is good text formatting and
a facility to collaborate with others. I looked up Word 365 keystrokes for mac.
They look comprehensive.

I haven't used Scrivener yet. I will be grateful if you could leave a note on
the programme.

Warmly,
Hem.

Hi Hem,

I have used all three programs: Pages, Scrivener, and Word. They are all
compatible with VO. I also share your reservations about working across word
processors. I would say, though, that I've been pleasantly surprised with how
Pages works with Word documents. the big thing is that you have to remember to
Export to Word rather than save. I haven't tried to export files with super
complex formatting or with tables, but if you are working with a text file, you
should have no problem using Pages. If you decide not to go that route, using
word is pretty straight forward. You can find the commands you need, along
with the keyboard shortcuts, in the menus. Note: I use Word 2016 on the Mac,
not Word 365, so there may be ways in which that experience differs.
Best,
Donna

Hello,

A hotspot is a universal location. If you set hotspot 4 on a progress bar ,
then in any application if you use control-option-command-4, VoiceOver will
speak the current state of that progress bar.

Web Spots are meant for HTML based documents, and the exact way that VoiceOver
knows how to determine if a web spot should be active is an mystery. But once
you set a bunch of hotspots on a page, you can switch between them with hot
keys or the web spot list in the rotary selector.

A sweet spot is just a web-spot that VoiceOver will set initial on when that
page loads. For example if you want the Sports headlines from your local
newspaper to be what VoiceOver reads when you open the site, then you should be
able to set the sweet spot to that area. Again, although VoiceOver is Supposed
to remember webspots and hot spots, I don’t think there is anyway to review
them like there is in other systems.

VoiceOver also has auto-web-spots which is VoiceOver guessing where major
sections of a page are. You can go to the next auto-web-spot with
control-option-command-n .

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Yes, I am indeed talking about append to clipboard feature. I am not proficient
enough to write Apple scripts. But I will be delighted to get my hands on an
accessible clipboard app.

Are you talking about the append to clipboard feature? I know that there are
several pasteboard / clipboard utilities, but I have never reviewed any of
them. One could probably even create a simple AppleScript and/or automator
script that gets the contents of the pasteboard, the contents of the current
selection in the active window and then appends them and places the result in
the pasteboard I personally have never felt much need for such a feature. But I
expect Googling pasteboard or clipboard utility Macintosh utility should get
you some results.

Well, VO-J will jump between UpperRibbon, Lower Ribbon and Content. However
probably even easier at least in Very latest inside build you can hide the
ribbon with command-option-R. This gives an experience very much like Word 2004.

Yes they are two different apps, but not having to use the internet is a plus,
so Voice Dream Scanner and Seeing AI are both good for different things.

RE: VM fusion question

Subject: Re: VM fusion question

Hema,

It’s a bit tricky, but let me see if I can explain it right: When you’re in
Windows, press Control+Command. Then, you can use Command+Tab to move away from
VMware Fusion to any other app you might have running. All the VO command will
work once you have done the Control+command keystroke.

Now, to get back to Windows under VM is where it’s a little tricky. First, Use
either command+Tab or the dock to get back to VMware Fusion. Then, wait a few
seconds. Wait a few seconds, and hopefully VO will say something like VMware
Fusion, full screen, the name of your Windows virtual machine. If this happens,
press Control+G to tell VMware Fusion to get control of the keyboard. If
Control+G doesn’t work, I have to press Control+Command+F. I will hear VO say
“space with applications” followed by all the applications you have currently
open. You then may have to use Command+Tab to get back to VMware Fusion once
more. Then wait a few seconds until hopefully you hear VO Say “space
containing” the name of your windows machine, full screen. Once that happens,
you should be back in your Windows environment and the keyboard commands will
work for you.

Please, anyone else who uses VMware Fusion, feel free to chime in if you think
you can make this explanation clearer. I’ve been thinking how to write this all
afternoon, and I’m still not sure I’ve explained it clearly but didn’t want any
more time to go by before posting.

I believe that some of the keyboard macro programs can do this type of
functionality. You could also create a tool using the automator app that could
show up in the services menu and/or the contextual menu. Once a service
automation is created, one can also assign any keyboard shortcut to that
automation.

Take control of Automating Your Macintosh from Take Control Books can give you
guidance in doing this.

Good evening, word can produce high-quality documents. If you need a natively
done Microsoft Word document it would be advisable and cost-effective for you
to use office 365. It is completely compatible with the Mac I use it
personally, and I’ve had no problems.

Although pages does right in word format it is not completely the word format.
There are some slight differences. I hope this addresses your question?

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

RE: new mac user

What are the things that are accessible in office 365?

It is important for me to collaborate with fellow acaddemics. So accessing
track changes, and the rest is important. I also like to know whether opening a

Pages can open and save Word documents, but if it is not compatible enough with
Word documents, Word in Office 365 is also accessible, although not as
accessible as Pages is, for me at least
