Re: Adium And Events

2011-08-09 Thread Naama Shang
Hi
I am not sure I am understanding you correctly, but I managed to have a
different system default voice in Lion. I have Fiona as my system voice, and I
used to have Tessa as an activity voice for adium.
Now I still have Fiona, but switched back to Alex for VO.

Anyone having the follwing issues with safari and mail?

2011-07-31 Thread Naama Shang
Hi,
I have noticed the following issues since upgrading to lion:

1. Safari -- If I start interacting with html content, I can VO for a few
lines, and then VO would lag and restart itself, and I'd be placed at top of
page again.
Any suggestions, please?

2. Mail - I am not seeing duplicates. For instance, if I am subscribed to a
list with multiple addresses, I only see a message once instead of multiple
times.
Also, if someone sends me messages to all my addresses, I see only one. This is
very frustrating.
I am using Lion, macmail in classic view and I have an iMac from June 2011.

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Naama

Re: Why use a TrackPad?

2011-07-26 Thread Naama Shang
Hi,
How is the track pad useful on the web? Does it let you read smaller chunks of
text? I find that sometimes voice over reads chunks that are too big,
especially if I want to read by line.
I hate to ask it this way, because I don't wanto to compare voice over to
anything else, but would the track pad navigation provide anything similar to a
Jaws cursor? *don't kill me, I'm still new)
Thanks,

The biggest difference between the multi gesture trackpad and the touch

On the Mac, the track pad is used in conjunction with the booster keys on the
keyboard, Shift, Control, Option and such.
While I do use my trackpad, mostly I use the full keyboard. The trackpad is
really useful while on web pages, for example. You cannot use the trackpad to
do actual virtual keyboard entry, as you do on the iOS devices.
While I have an Apple Bluetooth keyboard to use with my iPod Touch, I usually
use the touch screen instead. I only use the keyboard when I'm going to be
dewing lots of typing on the Touch.
Hope this gives a little more insight.

 Hi David,
In my opinion, because the small apple keyboard lacks the control key on the
right side, it makes typing certain vo key
combinations, such as the commonly used voa, or vo f, kind of a pain.I
suppose one could use the keyboard commander and the
right option key plus letters on the left hand to accomplish these things, or
purchase a numeric keypad and use the num pad
commander. But if you have an macbook pro already, you have a track pad. So
I'm not sure why you'd want to buy another one. I
think a numeric keypad would greatly enhance the MBP, since it would open up
the full range of num pad commander keys to you.

Hello,
Ok, I shall try to be more specific.
I generally have mail, yorufukurou and finder open and I can command tab
between those.
Until I upgraded, any other app that I opened, could be also command tabbed to.
Now, no matter which app I open, disappears after even a second of me not being
focused on it. I have like 7 or 8 apps open at the moment, but I can only
command tab to the usual three, and no more.
I know the rest are running, because I hear adium, for instance, and I can see
all the apps I have open in my app chooser.
I hope this explains a bit.
Thanks,

Re: Focus blue Braille display not working properly on iMac

2011-06-24 Thread Naama Shang
Hi,
While this is possible, it is happily powering the pacmate braille display.
Maybe it takes up less pwer than the focus blue.
If this is the case, it is rather disappointing, since I really wanted to use
my focus blue. I wonder if I connected it via a hub, it it would work better.
On 24 Jun 2011, at 13:44, erik burggraaf wrote:

Hi All USB ports are not created equal. Sometimes a usb port can't deliver

So it sounds to me like the USB ports on your mac aren't delivering enough
power to drive the cells of your display. To test this, simply unplug the
uSB cable and switch to bluetooth on your mac.

Focus blue Braille display not working properly on iMac

2011-06-23 Thread Naama Shang
Hi,
I have just connected my Focus 40 blue Braille display to my iMac via USB and I
am getting no Braille. I can control the iMac from the display and of course,
Voice Over recognised the display, but I still get no Braille.
I have tried pressing the right routing button, as was once suggested by
someone here, but no joy.
What am I missing?
Help please,
Thanks,
Naama

Hi there,
Don't think so ,as it was working fine on pc. Also, pacmate braille display
works fine, but `i prefer the focus blue. Also, if it had been a power issue,
would I still be able to input into the mac?
Cheers,

 Hello Jeff,
Since I don't like having to turn off VO everytime I switch to using my VM,
I've found that one can solve the keyboard focus issue by going to Fusion
preferences/general and navigating to the popup button after Games. Activate
this popup button and navigate down to Always optimize mouse for games and
 you should be all set.
 Hope this helps.

Here is the way I solve this. Once in the virtual machine, turn off voice
over and press command control enter, this puts the virtual machine in full
screen mode. Your keyboard focus will remain in the virtual machine. If you
need to do something on the mac, press command control enter again and
reenable voiceover. After the first time doing this, if you switch back and
forth between fusion and other apps, it seems to work fine.

Hi Naama,

Welcome to the list. When using the Time Zone feature of the Date Time
System Preference, the easiest way to set your Time Zone is to enter your
closest major city in the Closest city field.

1. Open your system Prefs.
2. go to Date Time.
3. Select the Time Zone tab.
4. Navigate right until you reach the Closest City combo box.
5. Enter the first few letters of the closest major city to you, possibly
Jerusalem in your case.

Your Mac will automatically set the Time Zone once it knows that city. I
also make sure to have the Set Time Zone Automatically button to Off.

This should do the trick for you.

Later...

New member with a timezone question

2011-06-19 Thread Naama Shang
Hello,
My name is Naama and I currently live in Israel. I have just received my
very first mac a few hours ago -- it is a new iMac.
I have gone through the out of box experience successfully, and I am
noticing that my timezone is not set properly.
I did not get an option to set my timezone, even when I set the location.
When I went into system preferences, into the timezone tab, I checked the
box that said to automatically set my timezone, but this did not work. Maybe
Israel is not included in the timezones the mac can find automatically. It
defaults to Pacific Dayligt time, and I cannot seem to change it.
I cannot interact with either the map, or the timezone button. I am of
course connected to the internet.
How do I get my timezone to be correct?
Thanks,
Naama
