Re: Deleting bookmarks

2013-01-19 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
OK, so when you go into the book marks screen, there actually should be two
tables. The first table will have all your collections. This will have
things like your book marks menu, the book marks bar, etc. If you interact
with this table, then go to say... the bookmarks bar, then stop interacting,
now, in the second table which is below there, you should find a list of all
the bookmarks within that collection. If you move to one of them, you
should then be able to hit the delete key, and it'll go away. I'm not at my
mac right this moment, but I probably will be later this morning, so if you
can't figure it out, let me know, and I'll try to get you a bit more
spe3cific instructions.

Another thing that is really neet that you can do in the show all bookmarks
screen, just in case you were not aware, is that you can go to one of the
categories in the first table, then move to the second table with the actual
bookmarks. Now, get a load a this! If you highlight one of the book marks, or
select a group of them, call it as you see fit, then hit either command+C to
copy, or command+X to cut, you then, literally can move back up to another
category, move over to the second table, interact with it, of corse, then
command+V and paste that bookmark right into that category. Absolutely
awesome! if you're trying to reorganize things. Works like gold! I do it over
here all the time!

Hi
Thanks Tim and Chris. That worked. What's weird is that in the first table with
the categories, I seem to have about 100 bookmarks which came across from my
Windows machine's favourites. Can I move these to the bookmarks menu or do they
have to stay in that first table? I currently have three places to find
bookmarks and usually don't find anything as a result. I want to simplify my
life.
Thanks.

Re: Deleting bookmarks

2013-01-19 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

Yes you can move them from the first table to the second. Select the ones you
wish to move then press cmd-x to cut them out of that table. Select the
category where you wish to move them from the first table, stop interacting and
navigate over to the second table, interact with it and cmd-v to paste them
into that group of bookmarks.

It's best to use the Cut command in this case so that they do not remain where
you don't want them.

Re: Deleting Bookmarks

2012-08-22 Thread Andrew Lamanche
In order to delete a bookmark,
1. Bring up your bookmarks in Safari by pressing command+option+b
2. If you vo+arrow keys round this area, you will see various tables and
groups. To the left of the search field, which is probably where you land first
after bringing up your bookmarks, you have a table of categories. Interact with
this table and choose the category/section in which your bookmarks might be
located. This is probably going to be bookmarks menu.
3. Stop interacting with the table and move right beyond the search field,
where you will have another table of your bookmarks. interact. As you move up
and down the table, you will see names of your bookmarks, and/or names of
folders into which you may have grouped your bookmarks. Remember, listen
carefully to the names in case vo says collapsed. You can expand any collapsed
item to reveal more bookmarks with right arrow key and collapse it again with
left arrow key.
4. Once you have found your bookmark, press delete button, and the bookmark is
gone.
5. Hide your bookmarks with the same key combination command+option+b.

Hope this helps.

deleting bookmarks

2012-02-04 Thread Allison Manzino
Hi everyone,

Does anyone know how to delete a bookmark in safari? I have no idea, I can see
all my individual bookmarks, but want to delete some individual ones. Just
pressing delete on the bookmark does not work. When I press show all bookmarks,
I can see the bookmarks bar and menu, but I can't seem to access the bookmarks
themselves. ANy assistance would be grately appreiated. I have created folders
and can open bookmarks within those folders as tabs, but I can't for the life
of me figure out how to delete individual bookmarks from the bookmarks bar.
Thank you again for any help.

Re: deleting bookmarks

2012-02-04 Thread Esther
Hi Allison,

You delete your Safari bookmarks from the Show all bookmarks page that can be
accessed either with the Command-Option-B toggle shortcut or by navigating to
this option under the View menu on Safari's menu bar and selecting it. The
Show all bookmarks page is laid out as a search field and two tables. This
organization is similar to the arrangement for iTunes, Mail (at least in the
Classic view before Lion), and many other applications where in order to delete
or otherwise modify a track, mail message, or bookmark, you first select the
library, folder, or bookmarks collection, then perform the deletion, detailed
query, or other modifications from the table of listed tracks, messages,
bookmarks, etc. associated with that selection.

In the case of the Show all bookmarks page, this means that you first want to
make sure that the Bookmarks Bar is selected in the table of collections,
then the individual bookmarks of the Bookmarks Bar will be displayed in the
second table, where they can be examined, modified, or deleted. So if you
navigated to Bookmarks Bar on the Show all bookmarks page by using item
chooser menu (VO-I), for example, you'd still need to jump to the table of
individual bookmarks associated your selected Bookmarks Bar collection, e.g.,
by using VO-J, to find the individual entry and delete it by pressing the
Delete key.

Here are general instructions for deleting a bookmark from the Bookmarks Bar.
If you want delete a bookmark from your Bookmarks Menu, or other folder that
you've created in your table of collections, just modify the instructions to
navigate to and select that item instead in step 3.

1. Command-Option-B to move to the Show all Bookmarks page. VoiceOver will
announce that you're in a search text field the first time you do this. If
you're on the Show all Bookmarks page and you've already navigated to another
location on this page, you can press Command-F to move to the search text field
and then follow along with the next instruction steps.

2. Navigate with VO-Left arrow, or just Left arrow with QuickNav on, past the
vertical splitter to the table of collections, and interact. If you have
TrackPad Commander turned on (with VO+Clockwise rotor gesture on the TrackPad),
you can flick left twice from the search text field to the table, and interact
with a two finger flick right.

3. Navigate with VO-Right arrow, or just Right arrow with QuickNav on, or by
flicking right on the TrackPad, to the Bookmarks Bar (or to the Bookmarks
Menu or any other folder you may have created that you want to select).

4. Press VO-J to jump to the associated table listing bookmarks for the
collection you have selected.

5. Navigate to the bookmark you want by quickly typing the first few letters of
the bookmark name, or by using the arrow keys (or flicks with the trackpad), or
a combination of these.

6. Press the Delete key to delete a bookmark.

7. Use either Command-Option-B (shortcut for toggling the Show all Bookmarks
page on and off) or Command-Left bracket (shortcut to go back) to return you
your previous web page.

Note that your previously selected bookmarks collection will be remembered and
stay selected when you return to the Show all Bookmarks page. So if you want
to examine or delete another bookmark in your Bookmarks Bar, you can navigate
directly to the table of bookmarks by using VO-Right Arrow (or just Right Arrow
with QuickNav turned on, or right flick with TrackPad commander on), and
interact. If you want to navigate to another bookmark in your Bookmarks
Menu or other collection and have previously selected that collection, those
bookmarks will be available in the second table when you return to the Show
all Bookmarks table. You find those entries with item chooser menu, or
navigate to that table and its items with the VO-Right Arrow/Right Arrow/or
right flick actions (depending on whether you use QuickNav or TrackPad
Commander as alternatives).

Another helpful tip for more advanced options to work with bookmarks is that
you can use the search filtering to find bookmarks. If you type a search term
into that search box you land on or navigate to with Command-F in Show all
Bookmarks, you will begin to populate the table of bookmarks with matches as
you type. This is very useful for quickly locating multiple bookmarks that
match a search term, including those in different collections, and will match
partial words that you type in, too. However, by default the search results
are for all bookmark collections, so it will include a search of History, and
could contain many matches, if you have many items in your Safari browsing
history.

You can find out how many matches by doing a VO-Left arrow (or Left arrow with
QuickNav on, or left flick with TrackPad Commander on) from where you typed the
search text. Another VO-Left, etc. and VoiceOver announces your currently
selected bookmark collection (e.g.,

Hi Ed!
Use command+option+B this will land you on a search field! But if you Shift+tab

So select which one of those you want to go in to, and then just tab twice and
you'll have the table of the bookmarks of that folder just interact and delete
at your leisure!

Hi Chris!
This is the way I know!
1. open all bookmarks with option+command+b and you should be put on a search
field!
2. use shift+tab to the 1st table [ and if your Mac is set to interact when
tabbing] you can up and down through the options and select the one you need!
[like menu bar]
3. Then using the tab on it's own you can tab to the next table ]you'll pass
through that search field on the way]
4. You'll be in the table of bookmarks in that section just scroll through them
and when you get to one you wish to remove!
5. Just press delete and that bookmark will be gone!
6. When your done in there just shift+tab back to the 1st table and select one
of the other options that might have more bookmarks you need to delete!
And do the same as before!
7. And finally when your happy you've taken out all the bookmarks you need to!
Just press option+command+b to hide all bookmarks again!

Hi, Chris,

Thanks, actually, I had saved a copy of your entire message. I get to
the bookmark bar a different way, opening Safari, using VO-m arrow over
to bookmarks, select and arrow to the bookmark bar from there. Does the
method of getting to the list I'm working with make a difference?

It was the last 3 steps that have me stumped. To highlight a bookmark
do I interact with it? In addition to the other places I checked, I
also checked the VO Help menu and found nothing about highlighting.
Once I learn how to highlight the bookmark, I also need the way to
cut. I did find information that said command V is used to paste.

I'm also trying to find out how to delete bookmarks. Does it need to be
highlighted first and then the delete key would do the trick but I'm
back where I started- how do I highlight the bookmark?

thanks again for your assistance,

Re: moving and deleting bookmarks

2010-05-20 Thread Esther

Hi Linda,

I'll answer your question about how to move, edit, and delete bookmarks by adding to the
description Chris gave of using Command-Option-B to Show All Bookmarks.  This
command takes you to a Safari page that is specifically for managing your bookmarks.  It
is the first option when you arrow down in the Bookmarks menu on the Safari menu bar,
where it is listed with its keyboard shortcut.  By contrast, when you arrow down to the
Bookmarks Bar in that same menu, you're selecting individual bookmarks that are stored in
the Bookmarks Bar instead of navigating to a page where you can manage all your bookmarks.

The Show All Bookmarks page is laid out in two tables and a search field, much as in iTunes, the Finder,
and many other applications. Navigating between the tables and search field is simple if you have hidden your bookmarks
bar, toolbar, and tab bar -- just go to the View menu on your Safari menu bar (VO-M then press
V and arrow down) and select any items that say Hide in the first three or four entries.  You
can also use shortcuts to toggle between show and hide your bookmarks bar (Command-Shift-B) and toolbar
(Command-Shift-Backslash on an English language keyboard).

Now, if you have interacted with the scroll area, use the tab key to move through the Show All Bookmarks page. Interact with a
table and VO-Down arrow to explore the contents. One table will be a collection of items like History, Bookmarks
Bar, Bookmarks Menu, All RSS Feeds, and any folders of bookmarks that you create to organize your bookmarks
(e.g., with Command-Shift-N to add a folder, or VO-Down arrow and press the New Collections button with VO-Space).  Once you
have selected/highlighted an item in the collections table, you can tab to the second table to examine its contents. (This is like
selecting a folder in a Finder sidebar, a mailbox in Mail, or a library in the sources table of iTunes, and then navigating to table list
view, or messages table, or songs table that details the items of your selection.  The second table used to be called the outline view in
Tiger.)

For example, select Bookmarks Bar, then tab to the table that lists bookmark
names and address URLs.  Delete entries with your delete key. You can re-order the
bookmarks using copy, paste, and delete, along with your arrow keys.  You can also use
the contextual menu for each field to rename entries and perform other actions.   This
can include things like pasting in a java script action into the address field. (If
you've ever visited a page, such as Google Translation Tools page, where they tell you
that you can get 1-click translation by dragging a button to your browser toolbar, all
you need to do is navigate to the button, which is a link, and use the context menu to
copy the link.  Then take an existing bookmark, paste the script contents of the link
into the address field, and rename the bookmark.)

The bookmarks bar is only one entry in the table of your bookmark collections, and is
meant to be used for your most frequently accessed web sites. You'll probably want to use
folders for your other bookmark collections, and also create subfolders (either with
Command-Shift-N within  the second table, or by using VO-Down Arrow from the table and
pressing the New Folders button with VO-Space).

I'll just add, for anyone who has an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad, and who also syncs their Safari Bookmarks through MobileMe, that
reordering bookmarks can be done fairly easily on those devices. Double tap the bookmarks button, then double tap the Edit
button.  For each entry under your bookmarks collection you'll first have a delete switch, then, if you touch or flick right, the name of
the entry, and finally, if you either flick right or touch the right edge of the screen, you'll hear reorder, dragable; double tap
and hold, then move to desired location.  If you double tap and keep your finger pressed to the screen after the second tap, then
drag the entry up or down, you'll first hear the burbly noise that your pass-through gesture (double tap and hold) has been accepted, and
then you'll hear a plink noise for each entry you've moved past. Then double tap the Done button to get out of
editing mode. If you want to reorder individual bookmarks in the bookmarks bar, you'll have to first double tap the Bookmarks
Bar folder before double tapping the Edit button so that you reorder bookmarks rather than collections of bookmarks.

You can read more details about working with the Show All Bookmarks page in
the mail archive of my post:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg16516.html
(Re: a couple of Safari questions--bookmarks top sites and tool bars)
This post includes a description of using the search field and links to another
(older) post outlining how bookmarks work, including how to transfer them.  For
any of the Mail Archive linked posts, you can use the Control-N access key

selected the Bookmarks menu, stop interacting and move to the table at
the lower right. That should list all the items you usually find in the
bookmarks menu. Interact with it and navigate to the bookmark you don't
want and hit delete. If it's in a folder you'll want to open that first
and then navigate to the bookmark inside.

Re: deleting bookmarks

Option command B brings up all your bookmarks. In the left rail you can
navigate between the bookmark bar, menu and some other locations. Most
of your bookmarks are probably in the bookmarks menu. If you interact
with that and then navigate to the lower right split pane you should be
able to scroll through all the bookmarks in your menu. Hitting delete on
one of these will remove it.
