I use TextEdit as a verification tool for things like paragraph numbering and the location of tables. When I need to work on a table in Pages, I copy it into Numbers, work on it there, then copy it back to Pages where I haven't yet managed to look at a table. I'll try Barry's trick when I next have to deal with a table in Pages. My situation is that I receive documents in French to translate into English, so I'm not creating documents from scratch. I need to spend a lot more time on Pages and the other iWork09 applications this summer to write a user guide. There's definitely a need for one specifically for VO users as the standard way of doing things frequently doesn't work for us. Hello Anne. I went to the Apple Store and we tried the different outlining types. My instructor was able to see the numbering but we couldn't get Voice Over to speak them. Hello Barry. I created a simple table using tabs as the column delimiter and the carriage return as the row delimiter. I then converted the text to the table. I was able to move over the table and Voice Over said that it was highlighted. I then went into the inspector checked the wrap radio button and selected the Object float radio button. The inspector opened but I couldn't read anything. Suggestions? Thanks so much. I want to also point out that vo can read floating tables and most other objects with little or no difficulty. When they are floating, they are found in the lay-out area. Also, you can convert an in-line table to text and back again. A text table has tabs as column seporators and new-line charictors as rows. RE: Pages09
Hi, I for one would be happy to pay as it would really help me make the final shift away from windows to Mac for everything that I do which is what I want - I dislike using two systems. Good luck with the task - would offer to help but my french is not good enough to do a translation! Re: Pages09
Hello Anne. Thanks for your response. I'll play with Pages and numbers a little more. I also am a one to one member and can get help at my local Apple store. My goal is to learn from the trainers while sensitizing them to Voice Over and accessibility in general. If we can share tips and tricks as we go along, then we9'll all learn to use these applications. A user guide would be very helpful and I appreciate the time it takes to write one. Thanks so much. Hello Anne. I like to create agendas for meetings. In addition, I like to write legal documents with outlined numbering like 1. 1.1 1.1.1 2.0 2.1 2.2. etc. I also like to use tables in my documents and to write letters and memos. Finally, I like to create address lists that I can translate into Braille. In these situations I would like to use mail merge facilities. Finally, are their more templates available for pages09 that are not in the template chooser? Do you also use numbers? Thanks so much. You cannot recognise the presence and colour of background highlighting. However, TextEdit will recognise background colour, so if it's a case of knowing it's there, TextEdit will solve the problem. There are other minor irritations, but on the whole, the iWork09 suite works well. I use it all the time to work on documents created with MS Office and to export them to the Office equivalent. If you can be more specific about the kinds of documents you need to use, I should be able to help you.
