Hi Erik,

I have never had any success with getting Rules to work. Not sure why. But
that’s why I was so glad to discover this solution.
Cheers,
Donna

2024-04-19 Thread Eric Oyen
I wish the same worked better for gmail. Like you, I faced a large incursion of
junk mail in my iCloud account. Your solution is one of several. Another good
one involves the use of rules on your mail client (in my case, the mail app
client found in OS X/XI/XII, etc). So far, it is proving to be a possible
workable solution. And yes, when you see over 1k spams in the spam folder on
gmail, you need all the help you can get.

Re: A very handy way to deal with junk mail

2024-04-17 Thread 'Jason J.G. White' via MacVisionaries
I run my own mail server. I have it configured to train its filter on
all of the mail that I move into the spam folder. Anything automatically
placed in the spam folder and later moved out of it manually is
automatically trained as legitimate mail.

I would expect commercial mail providers to do the same, probably in
more sophisticated ways.

I think that the way it works is that Apple adjusts its filters to filter out
those emails. For addresses like gmail, that would be the responsibility of
Google.

will pass this tip along.

Re: Mac Mail moving messages to Junk Mail

2023-07-26 Thread Brad Snyder
Rather than unsubscribe from every groups.io email group you are subscribed to,
you should be able to access your groups.io account online, and change the
email address associated with your account.

Re: Mac Mail moving messages to Junk Mail

2023-07-23 Thread Brad Snyder
In my experience, these are server side issues that must be addressed by
accessing your email provider’s web portal.
I suggest that you login to your email account using the providers web site, go
to the Junk folder, and mark any item in the folder that is not junk as “Not
Junk”..

They said if you move email from the junk folder to the inbox folder, that it

I also reset the junk filter with no luck.

Mac Mail moving messages to Junk Mail

2023-07-23 Thread mr.robertcole via MacVisionaries
Dear List,
For the last two weeks, My Mac Mail iCloud account has been moving emails to
the junk folder.
I disabled the junk mail, but it continued to move emails to the junk folder.
So I reenabled the junk mail feature, & chose to mark mail as junk, but leave
in the inbox.
Guess what? It continued to move them to the junk folder.
So be ware, this may be happending to you without knowing it.
So go check the junk folder.
I heard on a podcast that others were having trouble with the Mac junk mail.
They said if you move email from the junk folder to the inbox folder, that it
would train the junk filter, but this is not working. I am moving about 60
emails per day from the junk folder.
I also reset the junk filter with no luck.

Thanks for any help,
Rob

How to set up an all junk mail box IOS 16.3

2023-01-27 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I am running IOS 16.3 on my iPhone SE 2020. I have 3 Email accounts and have
set up mail boxes for all inboxes, all sent, all drafts, all trash, and all
archive. I did this some time ago on a different level os IOS and have
forgotten how I did it.
I would really like an all junk mail box. I did a duckduckgo search on how to
do this and am confused by the results. It seems that it is possible but I
cannot find out how.
Have any listers done this and if so how?
Many thanks and best regards … Paul Hopewell

Re: Help, I’m drowning in junk mail

2022-06-14 Thread Doug Lee
This is probably off topic so please pardon my reply, but having dealt once
with a wild fluke that caused over
100,000 junk mails per day for a while, I sympathize. :) No that number is not
a typo.

The answer depends on several things:

First, is there anything consistent about the junk mail--e.g., sender address,
sender domain, subject line or
key words in it? At a deeper level if you are comfortable finding and
inspecting mail headers, you may find
common header elements that are not normally visible in daily mail reading.
These can of course serve in mail
handling rules.

Is the address to which the junk is being sent exactly the same as your normal
address? I ask this because I
am in the habit of giving out variants that still reach me but that let me
filter out spam if one of the
variants starts generating it. As a bonus, this also lets me sometimes identify
who or what is responsible for
the spam. Unlikely for you maybe, but worth asking because filtering by
recipient address can be very
effective for some cases.

If you collect mail from more than one mailbox and find that the spam is coming
from one you don't use, you
could consider dropping that mailbox. I've lost track of how many times I've
seen a ten-year-old mailbox
belonging to a long-time friend suddenly start sending out spam. That doesn't
of course sound like your issue,
but it does indicate how common it may be for people simply to forget about old
mailboxes and not maintain
them. Of course, if this *is* your issue, you would likely have discovered this
when checking for common
elements, my first suggestion.

In my 100,000 per day mail case, I actually wrote a program to clean out my
upstream folder via IMAP just
before I downloaded mail each time. I doubt you have to go that far.

For the curious, here is what happened to me:

In August, 2012, someone started sending literally millions of spam emails but
listing my domain as the origin of the
spam. As is often the case with such mass spam generation, a great many of the
destination addresses were invalid. For
each of these, the various mail daemons, that being programs that process mail
for us, dutifully sent back an error
indicating that the message could not be delivered. Since the messages had been
crafted to consider my domain as the
origin, the daemons sent the error reports to me, to the tune of, as I said,
sometimes over 100,000 error messages a
day. The program I wrote made mail completely manageable anyway, but I suspect
that particular spam attack would have
stopped most routine computer users from keeping up for a while.

Re: help with junk mail

2021-05-30 Thread Brad Snyder
I don’t think this issue has anything to do with your Mac's Mail client, rather
this is an issue with your email provider who is marking the item as junk
before the mail even reaches your Mac's Mail app.
I suggest that you log in to your email provider’s web portal, where you can
access the Junk email folder and mark the item as Not Junk.

Re: Apple Mail on IOS: how to set up All Junk mail box

2020-11-18 Thread Dave Carlson
I’ve found that the labeling is dependent on your provider. For example with
gmail the labels on the Mac are “Archives” and “Archives” whereas on the iPHone
they are “All Mail” and “Archives”. Go figure.

Apple Mail on IOS: how to set up All Junk mail box

2020-11-18 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
Thanks for the tip of pressing the edit button above the list of all mail
boxes. I tried this but alas All Junk was not in the list of possible mail
boxes while All Sent, All Drafts, All Rubbish and All Archive were in this
list. Strangely on Bigsur on my iMac All Junk is in the list of possible mail
boxes. Mail set up on IOS and Bigsur are identical.
I recall that in the past I had to do something to create say All Archive and
if I could remember what I did I could do the same to create All Junk.
Any ideas?
Many thanks …. Paul Hopewell

I am running IOS 14.2 on my iPhoneSE 2020. I have 3 Email accounts. Some time
ago on an older IOS release I set up All Inbox, All Draft, All Archive and All
Bin mail boxes which are all very useful. Alas I cannot remember how I did that
and google offers no help. I now want to set up an All Junk mail box.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Many thanks … Paul Hopewell

If you can do this, it would be in the Edit area of the folder list. So, first
hit back until you have a list of Folders to choose from, and then click the
edit button and see what shows up.

How to stop iCloud calendar spam and junk mail, Apple Insider

2019-08-26 Thread M. Taylor
How to stop iCloud calendar spam and junk mail
By: William Gallagher
Monday, August 26, 2019 3:15 PM

If you're suddenly being bothered by iCloud calendar spam invitations, here
are the steps you need to take to get rid of it all in Apple Mail on Mac and
iOS.

Apple generally does such a good job of cutting out spam that we don't even
have to think about it. Yet, sometimes there will suddenly be a new tidal
wave of the stuff that breaks through. While Apple did seem to have dealt
with the biggest one some years ago, attacks are on the rise again.

Here's what to do about it -both to rid yourself of the events today and
hopefully never get any again.

Calendar invitation spam
This type of spam will come in two flavors. One is when you get some junk
email and it includes an invitation alongside the usual Accept, Decline, or
Maybe buttons. The problem here is that whichever of these buttons you
click, it sends a notification back to the sender.

Which means that sender now knows your email address is a real and active
one. Accept, Decline or Maybe are each just the same way of telling that
spammer to target you more.

So you can't press any of the buttons. You could just delete the email, but
there is a better way -and it's provided by Apple.

When that happens, and it's an iCloud invitation, Apple has you covered. In
the email, right under those buttons, there will be a line that offers you a
way out.

"Do not recognize this sender? Report Junk," it says.

Click on Report Junk and then delete the email.

The harder, more intensely irritating spam event, is when this invitation is
not sent over email but is instead pushed out by an assailant. If an event
has appeared in your calendar without you adding it, that's what has
happened.

When that's the case, though, this event hasn't just been added to your
overall Calendar, it's actually been added to one calendar in your set of
them. If you've never tried dividing work and home events into different
calendars that get displayed together, you may not even have known that you
can do this.

As well as, for instance, "home" or "work" calendars, though, you can create
as many as you like and name them in any way you want.

So create one called Spam.

You can create a new calendar and move all spam into it. Then either don't
display that calendar, or delete it entirely -along with those events

On the Mac, you do this by:
. Open Calendar
. Choose File/New Calendar
. In the Calendar sidebar, click to name this new calendar

On iOS devices, you instead:
. Tap Calendars at the bottom of the screen
. Tap Add Calendar
. Name it
. Tap Done

In either case, you now have a new calendar and by default, it's always
displayed alongside your regular one. You could choose to stop it being
displayed by just unticking it, on the Mac or iOS, and so never see anything
in there.

To get of these errant events, though, click on one and assign it to your
Spam calendar. Do that to as many as you have, and then do delete the
calendar.

On the Mac:
. Right click on the calendar
. Choose Delete
. From the dialog that appears, choose Delete again

On iOS:
. Tap Calendars
. Tap on the i button next to your Spam calendar
. Scroll to the bottom
. Tap Delete Calendar

In either case, you have removed that calendar -and also all of the spam
events in it. And you didn't send the junk mailer any notification.

Stop it from happening again
Apple changed its systems specifically to help stop you getting any more of
this, and it did so by altering Calendar's preferences -on iCloud.com.
There's nothing you can do, not officially, on a Mac app outside of Safari,
or on iOS device, but you can set a preference online.

It'd be good if this were a setting in Mail on iOS or Mac, but at least here
in iCloud it should catch spam events before you see them
. Log in to iCloud.com
. Click on Calendar
. Click on the cog icon at bottom left
. Choose Preferences
. Click Advanced
. Select Receive event invitations as an Email

Now if someone wants to spam you, they'll have to try to call you and hassle
you that way -and we've details on how to reduce those calls, too.

Re: Keeping things out of junk mail

2017-11-21 Thread Jonathan Cohn
While that command will work, I believe Stacy was asking to turn off
auto-spam flagging. This can be a little difficult since usually both the
computer and the mail provider will do junk/spam filtering. I believe if
one is using GMAIl then there is no way to turn off their spam filters.

There are option in the Apple mail preferences though, the third button in
the toolbar has controls to adjust Mail's junk mail actions.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan

Re: Keeping things out of junk mail

2017-11-21 Thread Andrew Lamanche
Hi,

The shortcut key combination for marking an email as spam is command+shift+j.
I seem to remember from the time when I still used El Capitan that the same key
combination works to mark an email as not spam. Try to highlight the emails in
your Junk mail folder and then press the key combination above to see if you
can change the spam to not spam.

Re: Removing Junk mail on IOS

2017-08-14 Thread Jonathan Cohn
If you are accessing your e-mail via the IMAP protocol, then everything
should match on both systems. Unfortunately until the wide spread use of
SmartPhones as an alternative to accessing e-mail a large number of
providers just allowed POP to retrieve e-mail messages. POP can only
control one folder per a user and has options for retrieving part or all of
a message in an INBOX. If all of your e-mail accounts have IMAP enabled on
the Macintosh, then I would encourage you to delete the account on the
iPhone and then re-add it in.

Re: junk mail

2014-06-22 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

I believe that it is kind of a Gmail/Archiving/AllMail kind of thing. Gmail
handles things in a special way as part of its pseudo iMap configuration.
Simply deleting the account then re-connecting likely does nothing as the
offending message is stored on Google's servers. The best way to handle this
would probably be on the Gmail web-interface.

2014-03-02 Thread Pamela Francis
Hi Teresa and others,
I have had a similar issue. I have moved the specific mail to the mailbox I
want, however especially with this list and or any of the lists I may belong
to, even if the email address is Marked as VIP, it still falls into my junk
folder. Occasionally there are certain respondents to any of these lists who
fall into my junk folder, others in my inbox, however the list email is Marked
VIP. How do I fix this permanently? It's a major pain in the rear attempting to
follow a thread, when having to look through both my inbox and my junk folder.

Are you having issues?

First of all there is not always a junk folder. By default the Mac just puts a

should open the folder. Note: however that GMAIL has a SPAM folder which is
not (by default) linked to your Junk folder on the Mac. If you want them
linked which might get confusing since both hte Mac and Google can put items
in the folder and learn correctly or incorrectly from each other what to
expect as Junk.

So if the previous sentence makes sense and you do want to link Google's SPAM
with Mail's junk then do the following.

1. Find the SPAM folder and select it.
2. from the Mailbox menu find Use this mailbox for and select junk.

After you do this there might be a new folder in your google account with the
messages you had marked as spam. It is also possible that the Mailbox
behavior section of the account preferences has an option dealing with
local/remote storing of junk.

Junk Mail shortcut?

2010-01-16 Thread Michael Busboom
Hello listers,

I am trying to find a way in the Mac Mail program to quickly relegate messages
in my in box to my junk mail folder. Is there a shortcut key for accomplishing
this? I would be surprised if there weren't.

I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard.

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Hey Mike!
That's an interesting question. I so rarely get junk mail through google these
days. I've tried to set up a shortcut item to move mail to various folders and
have not had good luck. It seems that if the folder is nested I can't get it
to work. I know you can create shortcuts for corresponding menu items but I
don't see a junk menu item anywhere in mail. Hopefully somebody else can help
you. Just wanted to say hey anyway!

Great getting a note from you, Jim. Even if there isn't a shortcut key for
accomplishing this, I am relieved that a more experienced user doesn't know of
a method for accomplishing this either.

Unfortunately, I get a lot of junk mail on my busboom.at domain and will be
speaking with my ISP about getting better filters.

Thanks anyway, Jim, and see you on Skype soon, I am sure.

Re: Junk Mail shortcut?

2010-01-16 Thread Tom McMahan
There is a moveto comand, but unfortunately you would have to select
the box, in this case (junk) but it would be kind of nice to have a
different key combo specifically to just move any given message into
junk when you would catch it.

When I've gotten what I call chronic junk from an address, I've set
up rules and within the section for what I want mail to do with
messages related to that address I select (automatic deleet), then
also to be smart about it, add task, and select play sound then
select from the pop-up for sound to be played. I have a bunch of
extra sound effects stored in librarywhere Mail can access. For
these rules, well, they get a toilet flush. Never see the mail, just
hear it go by-by. The sound part is only an option though, don't
have to be done at all, was just being a smart A-- when I was setting
it up that day.

I agree, a picularity to Mail I think, most of the mail I move goes
to a box I created called Audio, so can use commandoption T while
specific message is selected, but if I then find one that needs to go
somewhere such as Junk, then have to then do VO Shift M and select it
in the sub-menu which isn't all that short.

Fortunately I don't get a lot of junkmail, well, not at this time at
least.

Same problem here, and I'm not sure why either because selecting a
box and doing move to again only works well if you plan to move a
fair amount of mail to the given box like I do with the one box. A
sort of store for later box instead of like in your case of wanting
to move (junk) over.

 Hello listers,

I am trying to find a way in the Mac Mail program to quickly relegate
messages in my in box to my junk mail folder. Is there a shortcut key for
accomplishing this? I would be surprised if there weren't.

I am using the latest version of Snow Leopard.

 Thanks in advance,

 Mike
