Re: Music shortcut and repeating

2020-05-26 Thread Brad Snyder
As I said in my earlier post; I use Apple Mail, and the method Tim described
does not work in every situation.
For example, there are certain individuals on this list who’s email address
cannot be obtained this way. i’m not sure why this is, but I would think it
has something to do with the email client being used by the sender.
I brought this up only to point out that sometimes there may be a situation
where the sender’s email address cannot be obtained.

Hi,

Basically, you are correct. Seldom does anything work all of the time.
Although, I still maintain that these sorts of comments are unnecessary
complications. If the process I outlined did not work, then we would have
given people another option, such as using cmd-shift-h to display the complete
header information where it is likely that the address would be visible. Yes,
Thunderbird on Windows does handle the header information differently, so it is
not as easy to get the sender’s address, but it can be done if desired.

Have a good one.

Turning off Voice Over and on your Apple Watch.

2020-05-26 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi There.

Today I turned on my watch and voice over didn’t pick up the icons on some of
my watch such as heart rate and breathe. So I decided to turn off Voice over
and turn it back on. It resolved the problem. So next time this happens
regardless of what voice over is not picking up, just try this method. It
didn’t use to work but it’s happening now.

Regards, Kawal.

Hi!
I have a samsung external spinning harddrive which i normally connects to a 7
port usb 3 hub.
For some reason the drive does not work any more when i connect it to the usb
hub.
When i connect it to the mac directly it doesn’t.
THough it has worked when i connected it to the usb hub so i am wondering if
the hub begins to fail.
I actually have tried another usb 3 cable but it did not work.
All other devices works like a charm when they are connected to the hub so i am
not sure what’s going on really.
I am trying to find a thunderbolt hub with usb 3 ports.
But i am not sure if such a beast exists.

Hi Petrus,

On the Mac, you can figure out someone’s eMail address by doing the following:

• navigate to the message.
• press return on it.
• VO-left and VO should announce Message Headers.
• Interact with the Message Headers.
• VO-right to hear the name of the person.
• interact with that area.
• VO-space on the person’s name and a menu should pop-up.

The first item in that menu is their eMail address. The second item allows you
to copy the eMail address to the clipboard so you can paste it into an eMail.
A few things to note, if VO-space does not bring up the menu, then you may need
to interact one more time, or stop interacting one time. It’s pretty important
to be at the right level to bring up the menu.

Disk util is fine for a basic scan / look at what's happening,

You could do a first aid on it and see if it finds anything of concern on the
drive,

The other thing is that if the cable for the external drive is removeable then
possibly you should try another cable if not a complete drive bay as they do
some times cause problems.

Good luck.

Hello.

I have a few issues that is really driving me mad as I could do both these
things once before but it’s not happening at the moment. I cannot remember how
to do it.

This has to parts so this is going to be a long email!

1. I would like to subscribe folders to my Microsoft Outlook as sometimes I
use it on all three platforms as I have just acquired the ELBraille.

Anyway, I know the query button which you need to press is within the Imap
settings but I can’t find it.

So in the end for example, my Macvisionary folder will show up in my folder
tree view.

2. I wanted to add another global rule using iCloud.com because the advantage
of that is it doesn’t matter how you access your emails it’s the same on all
platforms.

3. I have done it a few times on iCloud.com but it’s hit and miss using Voice
over. If anyone has a method of doing it which works every time with that,
please do let me know. I almost did it yesterday but I kept cancelling the
rule so any help would be appreciated.

Before anyone says use Google, it’s never explained from a Voice Over
prospective but I know what to do but it’s not happening yet!

Thanks for all your help.

Kawal.

Re: iPhone X questions.

2020-05-26 Thread Jonathan Cohn
I was just reading a CNet article about charging today. The general
recommendation was to ry and keep your battery between 30-80% charged for
maximum battery life. It also mentioned that the quick chargers are designed to
push a lot of charge initially and then reduce the charging as the battery gets
closer to full. I think they were saying when you don't need the full life of
the battery, a 30 minute charge with a quick charger should give you 50% charge.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Deleting Time Macine Backups

2020-05-26 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Did just nothing happen, or id it seem like something was happening, but really
nothing did? I’ve never actually done it that way. After replacing drives,
I’ve started a new backup. I’m wondering if the “Delete Old Backups” item
there that you’re referring to only deletes old backups before the newest most
backup, so there is always one left behind. I’ll have to think about this some
more and do some testing. Good question.

iPhone X questions.

2020-05-26 Thread Jessica Moss
I’m looking at possibly upgrading from my iPhone 7+ that I’ve had about 3
years, to the iPhone XR, which, to my understanding, has better battery
life/camera resolution than the new iPhone SE, which I originally was thinking
about getting. For those who have this model, in your opinion, is it better to
get a wireless charger for this device, or just have a back up batter
charger/juice pack case for it instead?
I honestly know nothing about charging a device wirelessly, and it almost
sounds like it would actually degrade your battery faster, but would love to
hear everyone else’s thoughts.

Re: Music shortcut and repeating

2020-05-26 Thread Brad Snyder
No pissing match intended. I am not trying to bring up un-necessary
complications. I mention this only because the method you describe does not
work in all situations. As I said, your own email address is not visible on my
end in the last several post, and this is the case whether or not full header
information is displayed. Not sure why this is, but I felt it was important to
bring up for those who are less technically minded than you or I.

That’s it, so let's move on.

I was not dismissing your comments. As I mentioned, I believe that you’re
simply adding unnecessary complications. I’m not interested in getting into a

not display an eMail address in a pop-up menu. Yes, I did test this on eMails
that remain in my InBox, and if the outlined method does not present the pop-up
menu, then a cmd-shift-h displaying more detailed header information does
contain the eMail address.

Hi Jonathan,
Thanks, got it all sorted now. I was going to reply to Anders off list with
some more song suggestions that are over 10 minutes but haven’t worked out how
to find his address yet.

Hello,
If you used AppleScript to create this shortcut, then there is a “once”
parameter to the “play” method, if you set this to true, it should override
whatever is in the user interface.
Of course the JavaScript version of the scripting methods should also accept
this as a parameter, but I haven’t tested especially in a modern system that
has the Music application instead of iTunes.

Hi All.

Now it’s just my folders on Imap using outlook, just wish to know how to do
this as I’m using iCloud mail.

Thanks for your help.
