[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1258067] [NEW] Profile General tab should have better options

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Public bug reported:

from bug #605749:
General tab:
Occupation and Industry do not make a lot of sense, especially when portfolios
are used in schools for students. It would be good if the admin could change
these labels for an institution.

From Gregor in today's dev meeting:
It would be good if the admin could change these labels for an institution.

The new Europass HeadlineTypeLabelType element contains one value from
predefined set of values: preferred_job, job_applied_for,
studies_applied_for, position or personal_statement. We could support at
least that or also add our own.

** Affects: mahara
 Importance: Wishlist
 Status: Confirmed

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 605749] Re: Improvements for Edit Profile: other messaging services

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Idea from Gregor in today's dev meeting:

The users will be able to add multiple addresses with a form (or maybe
Pieform element) which will offer them a select/drop-down box with XY
most used social websites so they will first select a social
site/service and than in another textbox type/insert their personal
address, e.g. http://twitter.com/johndoe or http://facebook.com/johndoe
or http://en.linkedin.com/in/johndoe/

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 605749] Re: Improvements for Edit Profile: other messaging services, change occupation and industry

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
I've spun up bug #1258067 for the General tab wishlist item to keep
things separate.

** Summary changed:

- Improvements for Edit Profile: other messaging services, change occupation
and industry
+ Improvements for Edit Profile: other messaging services

** Description changed:

- Messaging tab:
+ Messaging tab:
One or more fields Other that users can fill in would be helpful because
students often use Facebook and chat there and adults may rather put in their
Twitter / LinkedIn / identi.ca etc. ID instead of the ones provided.
-
- General tab:
- Occupation and Industry do not make a lot of sense, especially when
portfolios are used in schools for students. It would be good if the admin
could change these labels for an institution.

Make comments / feedback directly on artefacts on the page

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Triaged

Bug description:
The artefact metadata page which is usually accessible by clicking on
the artefact is well hidden. It would be good if it were possible to
directly comment on an artefact from a (portfolio) page through a
little pop-up. A counter next to / below the artefact indicates how
many comments the artefact has. When you hover over that number you
can read the comments in a bubble without having to go to the
details page of the artefact. You could still click on the artefact
and view the details page and give longer feedback at the bottom of
the page and also upload a file there. But for quick feedback, the
possibility to leave it directly on the artefact on the page would be
  handy.

Bug description:
When a user creates an account with Persona by registering (and auto-
creation of accounts is turned on for Persona), the user's default
journal will not have their name, but only 's Journal.

During auto-creation of the account, the user must supply a first and
last name, but that might already be too late if the journal is
actually created before then. Thus, the mandatory fields should be
filled in first before anything else is created.

The default journal setting should not be changed to always be updated
to the user's current first and last name as users could have renamed
  it to something else.

Title:
Wishlist: Prevent new users from taking spammy actions

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
As mentioned in https://bugs.launchpad.net/mahara/+bug/1250641 , to
combat spam on mahara.org, this is a feature request to add a new user
probationary period, during which the user can't take actions that are
  potentially spammy.

In the prototype implementation it's limited to the forums:

  1. New (self-registered) users start with a number of probationary points.
  2. When they take actions other non-probationary users approve of, their
probationary points are reduced. When they hit 0, the user is no longer
probationary.
  3. A probationary user can't post links or images in forum posts
  4. If a non-probationary user posts a direct reply to one of their forum
posts or topics, their probationary points are reduced by 1.
  5. The number of probation points they start with is configured in config.php

Additional features it would be good to add:

  1. Make the probation points configurable via the admin UI
  2. Make the actions that are prohibited, configurable via the admin UI?
  3. Additional actions to prevent -- links in direct messages feedback,
creation of public-accessible pages
  4. Admins can clear (or increase) a user's probation points via the account
settings
  5. Report page to show probationary users.
  6. Notifications to admins when a probationary user attempts a forbidden
action, with quick-link to suspend the user
  7. Report page to show which non-probationary users approved of the
probationary user (so you can check for spammer-approvers)
  8. Report objectionably content link for forum posts
  9. Display of user's overall post count on forum posts
  10. Potentially some way of limiting all this to only certain forums
(although I can't think of a good conceptual model for that)

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1257953] Re: public group forum info do not show up in elasticsearch

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
If a site doesn't allow its content to be public, it doesn't allow
public pages or public groups. I don't think we would need a config
setting whether public content can be searched by the public or not
because you can always use Google et al. and search for the content and
most likely come up with something.

If a school doesn't want it's content be found, it won't allow public
pages / groups etc.

As for what should be searchable, I think when anything is marked
public, you should be able to search on it because search engines can do
so as well. Thus, it should not only be forums, forum posts, but also
public pages that the public can search / discover.

public group forum info do not show up in elasticsearch

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Currently in mahara if one creates a group and marks it as a public
group and adds entries to the forum these entries can only be found in
a search by members of the group.

They should be able to be found by anyone that is allowed to view the
  group's forum.

  To test:
  - Have elasticsearch turned on
  - Create a group and tick the 'Publicly viewable group'
  - Add some topics / replies in the forum section
  - Search for * and you should see your topics / replies in the search results

Log in as another user (not a member of the group)
  - You can navigate the the group eg interaction/forum/index.php?group=[id of
group] and see the forum
  - Search for * and you do not see the topics / replies in the search results

Also there is a problem with elasticsearch where you need to be logged
in to use it which shouldn't be the case for finding info on public
  forums

We need to keep in mind bulk user creation. Currently, you create

force them to change it. Isn't that pretty much like a link you click to
change your password?

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 1007223] Re: Allowing page themes disables iPad editing

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
Hello Richard,

We are not allowing page themes on mahara.org because the site is not
for portfolio creation. ;-) Since it's also a customized site, it
wouldn't be good for testing. I turned on page themes on demo.mahara.org
instead.

Cheers

Title:
  Mahoodle login problem

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  as per http://mahara.org/interaction/forum/topic.php?id=3762

Here is just the description with the description

The mahara lib/version.php file I have says 1.3.6 though. The moodle's
  version.php shows 2.0.2

In Mahara, if the institution has only XMLRC authentication, or
has others but XMLRC is given no parent, then the problem occurs
exactly as I've described (user data transfers to Mahara from Moodle,
but user cannot get passed 'logged out user home' and is never asked
  to change password)

However, If I put Internal auth as a parent to XMLRC on the
institution, then I get a go around, by the following odd set of
  events occuring:

I click the Mahara link under network servers in Moodle, and get
brought to the logged out user home in Mahara
I do nothing in Mahara, and I go back to Moodle, and click the Mahara
link again from the network servers block.
This time, I get transferred to the 'change password' page in Mahara
and it says on the side (in Mahara) that I am coming in from Moodle.
After submitting the changed password in Mahara, I get transferred
once again to the logged out home. But this time, since internal is the auth
parent, I can log in with the password that was just set.
No matter which way I order the auths in the institution, the new
user from Moodle defaults to Internal Auth. I can log in as admin in Mahara and
change the user's auth method. Then with the auth method changed to XMLRC, the
user (once logged into Mahara) can jump back and forth between Moodle and
Mahara. However, the user still needs to initially log in to Mahara, Moodle
still won't send the user straight in.

So, in conclusion, I have a weird go around that my students can
manage to use, with me having to go into each user account and change
the auth method) - but this really does seem like it should be an easy
fix. When porting over through XMLRC, Mahara just seems to be setting
some value incorrectly which is sending the user to the wrong page.

Also, the wantsurl doesn't seem to be getting set, it just shows
wantsurl= with nothing after the '=' in the redirect. And if there's a
place in moodle to set it for the jump, I don't see where.

Of course, maybe it is still something to do with my setup. I have
moodle and mahara on the same server, and I know nothing about
  OpenSSL.

Hopefully this detailed description will help someone see what the
  problem is.

[Mahara-contributors] [Bug 921994] Re: LEAP2 import does not check if the new user email is already used in Mahara

2013-12-05 Thread Kristina Hoeppner
The problem is not the manual creation of users or by CSV but when a
Leap2A file is imported or an external auth is used. When an admin
uploads a Leap2A file, the DB doesn't check if the email address already
exists in the system. Nor are email addresses checked when SAML or MNet
are connected.

An admin interface alone would not solve the problem because an admin is
not involved when a user connects via SAML forgetting that thy already
have an account just with a different auth method.

Site files accessible in Links and resources sidebar

Status in Mahara ePortfolio:
  Fix Committed

Bug description:
According to the Site Files documentation, files uploaded into the
site files section are meant to be accessible to all logged-in users
(via the Site Files tab on any file selector). The one exception to
this is files in the hard-coded Public folder, which are meant to
also be accessible to users who aren't logged in.

A user on the #mahara irc channel reported that Site Files sitting in
a subdirectory, however, are not accessible to normal users. I
  verified this behavior in 1.8dev.

  To reproduce:

  1. Log in as an admin user
  2. Go to the Site Files page
  3. Create a subdirectory
  4. Upload a file into that subdirectory
  5. Log in as a non-admin user
  6. Add a files to download block to a page
  7. In the block's file selector, go to the site files page
  8. You will not see the subdirectory you created in step 4, or be able to
access its files.

OK my bad. There is actually something like a secret URL, which is the
guest pass: http://www.flickr.com/help/guestpass/

However, the URL, e.g.
http://flickr.com/gp/username/randomnumbersandletters/ looks very
different from a regular flickr URL. I suspect that Gregor put some
filtering in to only allow the regular flickr addresses through to avoid
someone misusing the feature.
