[MCN-L] Parking Management for Staff and Visitors
I’d like to hear from any museum that has a way to enforce staff parking policies. Or if you even HAVE a staff parking policy! What are your policies/procedures, and do you have a tech solution to help enforce staff parking. Thanks! Re: [MCN-L] mcn-l Digest, Vol 124, Issue 5
We have been looking at Xibo, and that was our top choice for a bit, however we’ve started displaying a lot of dynamic content, mostly from our calendar for things like the day’s program schedule, or the next available guided tours and I’m a bit hesitant to push that kind of content to a browser that’s historically not known for being super standards compliant. Have you run into that issue at all Douglas? Also, thanks for all the other links, we’ll add those to our list. Right now Rise is at the top of our list. Does anybody have any experience with them? https://www.risevision.com/ The flexibility is attractive, but the prices on their hardware is very reasonable, cheap enough to order it in for a test to see how well it works before deploying across all screens. https://store.risevision.com/products/?cat=Media%20Players Shane Richey Digital Media Manager Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art 600 Museum Way Bentonville, AR 72712 479-418-5735 (direct) 479-409-0275 (cell) 479-418-5700 (main) CrystalBridges.org > On Dec 9, 2015, at 6:00 AM, mcn-l-requ...@mcn.edu wrote: > > We've had decent luck with Xibo, an open source solution. > http://xibo.org.uk/ > Although we've been hesitant to push its boundaries in terms of video, it > works great with all kinds of other file types and managing multiple > screens. > Would be great to have some colleagues using it too, then we could trade > tips and tricks, etc. > It's not the only option out there, of course. > http://www.concerto-signage.org/why-concerto > http://www.smallbusinesscomputing.com/News/Marketing/5-open-source-digital-signs-for-small-businesses.html > All the best, > Douglas ___ You are currently subscribed to mcn-l, the listserv of the Museum Computer Network (http://www.mcn.edu) To post to this list, send messages to: mcn-l@mcn.edu To unsubscribe or change mcn-l delivery options visit: http://mcn.edu/mailman/listinfo/mcn-l The MCN-L archives can be found at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mcn-l@mcn.edu/

[MCN-L] 360 video - YouTube
Looking for an easy entry into YouTube’s 360° video features and was wondering if any of you have had any experience with compatible cameras. I know that highest quality would be with a multi GoPro rig, but we’re looking at easing in before we go all out. Something along the lines of the Ricoh Theta S. [MCN-L] Digital Signage options
We have a number of digital signage installations through our museum that we use for way finding, schedule/program information, etc… We have been using SMP-WEBDUO players to manage the content for the last 4 years, but we’re getting to a point where the hardware is starting to show its age. Breaking down, crashing, shutting down unexpectedly. We would like to replace the hardware and the content management system that we use and was wondering if anybody had any systems that they’ve had good luck with. The functions that we are looking for are: - ability to schedule content and power on/off screens - central CMS that can control multiple screens - easy to use (the SMP-WEBDUO is a bit complicated and cumbersome to update/change settings) - we’re fine with browser based systems, but would like them to be modern browsers (anything requiring IE6 gets struck from the list, and probably ridiculed) Thanks Shane Richey Digital Media Manager Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art 600 Museum Way Bentonville, AR 72712 479-418-5735 (direct) 479-409-0275 (cell) 479-418-5700 (main) CrystalBridges.org<http://crystalbridges.org/> ___ You are currently subscribed to mcn-l, the listserv of the Museum Computer Network (http://www.mcn.edu) To post to this list, send messages to: mcn-l@mcn.edu To unsubscribe or change mcn-l delivery options visit: http://mcn.edu/mailman/listinfo/mcn-l The MCN-L archives can be found at: http://www.mail-archive.com/mcn-l@mcn.edu/
[MCN-L] Permission/Privacy statement for underage users on public kiosk
We are about to launch a kiosk for an upcoming exhibition that will allow users to take a photo of themselves, modify the photo and then send a copy of it to a public Tumblr page that will act as a repository for the images. We are currently using the following copy: By submitting your photo, you are agreeing for it to be published in the Tumblr photo stream for this app where other users can like, comment, download, and share it through social media. You are also giving Crystal Bridges permission use your photo, with credit, on the Museum’s website, in the Museum, and on Crystal Bridges’ social media accounts. Does anybody have any experience using a public kiosk in this way? Did you include language that required the user to be above 18? Thanks. [MCN-L] Outdoor Digital Signage
This is a two part question about digital video signage outdoor. First - I’m looking for a few relatively small screens to mount in an open sided pavilion. They won’t get much direct sunlight or rain, but I’m in Arkansas, so it gets hot and humid in the summer and cold in the winter. The all-weather screens that we’ve used in the past are sturdy, but they’re not the most attractive screens. The bezel is chunky and plastic, the screen isn’t super clear and colors are washed out. Does anybody have any go-to brands? I’m looking for smaller than 32” and they’re just display monitors, no touch screen required. Second - We’re looking at moving to Xibo for our digital signage. I have got some very positive feedback from a few other Museums that use it, I was wondering if anybody had any more stories or advice on using Xibo. Thanks! [MCN-L] What ticketing?
We?re currently in a similar search at Crystal Bridges, though we?re looking to replace our whole CRM system, which is TAM. The two current frontrunners in our search are Altru and Tessitura and I have concerns about both of them. We?ve only had an in-depth demo with Altru, and while it looks pretty solid from the constituent record side, it seems limited on how well it will integrate with the systems that we?re currently happy with (website, email communications and facilities management, etc). I?ve heard some horror stories about Tessitura, but don?t have any real insight into the way it works at this point. Good luck on your search.
