Re: [MBZ] 300TD on ebay - russet brown
This guy is pretty slippery... hes been selling cars like this for a long time on eBay. He ended up with bad feedback and started under a new name. He does nothing to the cars before selling... you can see that one of the head lights looks blown out on this car. He really does nothing. Just buys and flips. I met him once... a friend bought a car from him. The car wasn't bad, but certainly not as problem-free as he described it. I also suspect a good amount of shill bidding since the bidding goes up quickly and is not consistent with other auctions. I still think this is a pretty nice car, but beware! Its the second time he's had it up. Last time it closed at $6800 with reserve not met. Re: [MBZ] Diesel purge leftover
I bought a Chinese knock off of a pop tester, maybe 10-15 years ago. Looks like the one in the MBZ book and cost about $200 back then. My injectors were all within the pop pressure spec so I didn't have to mess with shims. But I did use an injector cleaning kit to ream out the tiny passages in the nozzle; this kit is a bunch of tiny wires in assorted sizes and a handle to hold them as you clean the various nozzle passages. Or you can just replace the nozzle assembly but reman injectors from Rusty cost about the same as new nozzles (or did back in the day). I see Kent Bergsma sells a kit just for this purpose (https://mercedessource.com/node/6016) which is probably a good deal but consider that you can get a whole set of new Bosch injectors from Rusty for about the same price. -Original Message- From: mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com [mailto:mercedes-boun...@okiebenz.com] On Behalf Of Dan Penoff Sent: Wednesday, July 11, 2012 3:23 PM To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: Re: [MBZ] Diesel purge leftover Jaime, What do you use for a pop tester? I usually recommend a generation or two old of HP's workstation class computers (a step up from business class which is itself a step up from home type). The smart money one right now is the xw8200 which is 3 generations old. Dual xeon 3.2Ghz processors, 4GB of RAM, WinXP pro. Great for most anything the home user needs. The xw8400 is a worthy machine for a bit more money, it can be had with dual dualcore or dual quadcore processors for much less than its original price. I'd consider the xw8200 the w123 of the HP world, the xw8400 is the w124. I SCORED a few months ago and stumbled into an xw8600 that is a rockin fast machine. I got mine super-cheap by accident. -Curt Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2012 11:40:11 -0500 From: Rick Knoble rickkno...@hotmail.com To: Mercedes Discussion List mercedes@okiebenz.com Subject: [MBZ] OT: Computer Question Message-ID: bay402-eas193572e2f66f41d88b7f6abdd...@phx.gbl Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii A while back someone (Curt maybe) recommended HP business class work stations for good solid home computers. As I remember it the spec is pretty far apart, something like 5 bar. ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Easiest test: get the engine good and hot. Open the hood, rev the engine to about 3000rpm and you should hear/feel the fan roar. At higher RPMs it should disengage, theory being that if you are at higher RPM you are moving quickly enough that there will be natural airflow through the radiator. If you want, you can always test by rigging up a lock on the fan to prevent the clutch from slipping (wire wrap or something). If it still runs hot with the fan locked, that implicates the radiator. In all probability, the radiator is shot. I had mine recored; it was a piece of cake to remove (no oil cooler and no transmission cooler). They did a fantastic job on the rebuild for about $300. Long shot: does your thermostat housing have a bleed screw like the M115 and OM617.91 engines? If there's air trapped at the thermostat, that could prevent it from opening fully. D. My local Bosch injection shop used to test and calibrate injectors to +/- 2.0 bar for around $25 each. Not sure if that price is still valid, but for the amount I didn't think it was bad. And yes, getting them that close together in opening pressures made for a very smooth idle and ramp-up as load increased on the engine. Sorry Jim, forgot to say these are the euro lights. Rebuilt them, as the ones I got off ebay had lived underwater and killed the reflectors. Two adjustment screws down low to up/down and sideways adjust. One light broke both these adjustment points so I had to fashion a solution. Side ways no longer functions for sideway adjustment, I have to remove the unit and do it by hand. The other light has decided it too no longer wants to be aimed without removal clay 1974 450sl - Frosch - Two tone green 1972 220D - Gump - She is green, simple and ran 1995 E300D - Cleo - Used by the Queen of Denial POS 1987 SDL - Beware Nigerian Scammers On Jul 12, 2012, at 6:22 AM, Jim Cathey wrote: cockeyed head light aiming in Frosch. Re: [MBZ] Ot cell phone booster
There are several types of boosters, depending on what you need. There are cheaper ones that you can just plug into a room in your house. There are others that are directional antennas that you can point to the cell tower from the roof, etc. and then put a repeater in your house. What kind of booster depends on what you need and how good your existing signal is. Switching carriers or using WiFi calling are other options. Where I live there is back feed off a directional Verizon tower such that any Verizon phones will bounce between towers. The result is 99% dropped calls. Sprint has a similar problem, but T-Mobile and ATT work perfectly. Switching carriers is not always easy. There are contract issues, and a carrier that is a dead spot at your house may work perfectly everywhere else you go whereas the carrier that works well where you live has poor reception many places you go. It depends on the phone and carrier. T-Mobile BlackBerry's often have UMA which uses a WiFi signal instead of your cellular network. Now their other phones have a WiFi app. Same number - it just uses WiFi instead of the cellular network. We have an older WiEx model (YX027-PCS-CEL) model that does both CDMA and GSM. It works extremely well, providing coverage in the centre of a large steel/concrete manufacturing facility where there was previously almost no signal at all. The data service also works. The key is to make sure the antenna is on the roof, or at least decently separated from the indoor repeater. Kaleb wrote: Anybody used any of those cell phone boosters out there? http://www.fordaustraliaforums.com/forum/showthread.php?48022-New-toy-Brake-fluid-tester Unscrew fluid reservoir cap, stick in probe, press button, see pretty light/s, determine there is stuff all water in fluid, put cap back on, clean tester, have beer after working so hard. Roger method: take car and credit card to dealer, hand over both, have cup of latte whilst browsing complementary magazines, receive car, drive off. OK to be fair I suspect that the modern brake system in a Merc is not as simple as the flint stone models most of us have. Now before you get all, but the fluid in the calliper could be full of water, consider that without disassembling the calliper (or using the below method) you will always have old fluid in the caliper because the bleed nipple is a the top and not the bottom of the calliper. So when someone says they changed the brake fluid, they only changed ~60% of the fluid. Another thing to consider is that when MB or others say that the fluid should be changed every two years they work on the worst operating conditions, with a great deal of safety margin. Do they care how much people spend on unnecessary fluid changes? Nope. Now to do a best job on changing brake fluid, it should be changed when the brake pads are replaced and the calliper piston is pushed back into the cylinder, that's what I do. The advantage of this is that you can open the bleeder valve and push all the old crappy fluid out and not back up into the system. Which brings me to ask the question: Are jokes allowed in this forum? Do they have to be about cars, or about Mercedes cars? Are there any good Mercedes jokes? I could use a good BLOWS ICE COLD joke about now. No. But then they should be prefaced with OT and not contain any vulgarity. That is what Banned is for, among other things. Are there any good Mercedes jokes? None that I know. I could use a good BLOWS ICE COLD joke about now. I will send some Lucas jokes.
