Re: [MBZ] OT GUN They took their ball and when home
Even out west there is huge fear of fire arms. It has more to do with the supposed civilized folks who inhabit urban areas instead of the good people who live in suburbs or rural locations. Even though a few urban denizens may hunt for sport, there is a greater percentage of small town residents for whom hunting is a way of life. Used to be that people abandoned school for deer hunting in high school in November. At least in the rural town school I attended. My oldest kid grew up in urban seattle and all the kids live in fear of guns. Taking off a week to hunt Bambi is considered a hate crime. Closest his peers get to gun love is to blast away virtual enemies in a video game. West coast city folk live in fear of guns and the people of color who wield them. Same as the city folk of the east. Rural residents are not so overcome by guns or waste mental energy on fire arms. It would be akin to getting involved in arguments over what is stocked in the out house. clay On Jan 18, 2013, at 8:54 PM, Brian Toscano wrote: > I still can't understand the irrational fear some people have of guns. > > I think it is just a stigma passed down to them by their environment. > Possibly because in the Northeast and other areas that are anti-gun most > gun owners are cops and criminals. > > In other parts of the country guns are just part of life and no big deal. > > What annoys me the most is that these anti-gun people seem to want federal > bans on guns as if they know what's good for the entire country (and the > rest of us are just ignorant rednecks and hillbillies) > > > On Friday, January 18, 2013, Rick Knoble wrote: > >> On Jan 18, 2013, at 8:20 PM, "Mountain Man" >> > >> wrote: >> >>> The tactic sounds interesting, but totally not necessary for my life. >> >> >> Dude, we gotta get you a job, so you can have a life... >> >> Rick >> Sent from my iPhone >> >> ___ >> http://www.okiebenz.com >> For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com >> To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ >> >> To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: >> http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com >> > ___ > http://www.okiebenz.com > For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com > To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ > > To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: > http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new and used parts go to www.okiebenz.com To search list archives http://www.okiebenz.com/archive/ To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://mail.okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com

Re: [MBZ] OT GUN They took their ball and when home
I guess that the point you are attempting to make is that the idea of such heinous attacks without an assault rifle (or at least a firearm of some sort) is not plausible, or that the number of victims would be much smaller. If your theory were correct, then such acts would not occur, or would be very rare, or there would be much fewer victims in a place where firearms are tightly controlled. But the following shows that your theory falls flat in the face of FACTS: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_attacks_in_China_%282010%E2%80%932012%29 25 dead and 115 injured! By the same logic: No guns were used at the OKC Fed building, therefore no one could be killed. Sounds good to me. I guess you thought the idea of someone bashing kids' heads with a hammer is absurd and funny. Remember that a hammer might not kill as surely as an AR-15, so perhaps the fatality rate might not be as high. But a quick death might be kinder to a child and his family than a lifetime of severe disability from permanent brain damage. The FACT is that evil or madness will not be stopped by eliminating firearms! Re: [MBZ] OT: Neck surgery
Craig, my wife Teri, had over 7 years of pain and the same issues you speak of. Finally she did the same thing and went to a spine specialist. She was told the exact same thing and ALL our friends and family said "don't do it, you'll never be the same". Well, we too prayed about it and chose the laminectomy and fusion. It has been 2 years and our friends were right, she isn't the same. She is 200 percent better! It was the best thing we ever did. She can pick up grandchildren for the first time, walk 3 miles at a time and do things she hasn't done in years. It was a good 6 month recovery time but trust the Lord and go for it, you will never be sorry. The 6 inch scar is a small price to pay for pain free living. If you want any more info about it just give me a call. Sent on the Sprint® Now Network from my BlackBerry® -Original Message- From: Craig Sender: "Mercedes" Date: Fri, 18 Jan 2013 18:39:11 To: mercedes Reply-To: Mercedes Discussion List Subject: [MBZ] OT: Neck surgery I have been through a very providential set of circumstances recently that has brought me a medical diagnosis of my recent tingling of limbs and chest/back and some difficulty walking. Shirley had a periodic checkup for her seizures scheduled with her neurologist in Santa Fe at the end of December and I drove here there. During her appointment, which was short, being just a "Hi, how are you doing" kind of thing, I asked if I might ask a question. I related my feelings of tingling and one time when I stood up from sitting on the floor painting baseboards I felt like an electric shock sensation in my legs. The neurologist had me get up on her exam table, did some poking and prodding, and said I needed to get an MRI of my head and neck. I saw my Primary Care Physician's (PCP) Certified Family Nurse Practitioner (CFNP) assistant, who started the proceedings. I got the MRIs on 9 January. I was back in the PCP's office on 14 January. Because of all of the neurology jargon in the MRI report, the CFNP referred me back to Shirley's neurologist. I immediately called for an appointment and got one for yesterday, 17 January (something unheard of in that doctor's practice -- it usually takes months to get in). During yesterday's appointment, Shirley's neurologist (now mine) said I should see a neurosurgeon who had an office downstairs from hers. She recommended we make the appointment on the way out of the building. We did that and were told there was a cancellation for today. At the appointment this morning, the neurosurgeon showed Shirley and me the images from the MRIs. He pointed out some significant narrowing of my spinal cord in the region of the 7th cervical vertebra and the 1st thoracic vertebra and said I had a sick spinal cord. He said I needed surgery. He said it wasn't an emergency, but that I did need to get it taken care of soon. His assistant came in to talk scheduling and was ready to schedule surgery for me on Monday. I said I wanted to talk with some people, so I did not schedule. His assistant gave me a packet of materials with all the information about pre-surgery blood tests, EKG, and X-ray and sent us on our way. The packet says the surgery is a cervical laminectomy and fusion of two vertebrae. So! We definitely need prayer for wisdom about how to proceed and that the Lord would open the doors to the right place and surgeon for proper care and recovery, among other things. Thank you all!
Re: [MBZ] OT: Neck surgery
One of my co-workers had this done a couple years ago. He was having problems with walking any great distance and climbing stairs and though he was having heart problems, but when his hands started going numb and he got leg pains, he discovered that a disk in his neck was bulged and pressing on the spinal column. The surgery he had was to cut away the bulge in the disk and insert a tapered metal spacer in the front of the spine between the vertebra and screw it in. Worked great, he's had no problems since and a full recovery. This is the same thing Payton Manning had done last fall, C7 in his case. He's still playing professional football, so I'm sure its a well known and reliable way to fix the problem. << I say let's give this entire exchange a decent burial...>> I agree, as long as I have the last word in this dialogue, Andrew! Guns ARE dangerous! But they are not more dangerous than hammers, knives, baseball bats, cars and other objects that kill and maim many when misused. BTW I am not impressed with your incorrect and inappropriate use of the Latin term reductio ad absurdum-- NOT absurdo. The toothpick and banana reference is indeed absurd, but the Wikipedia reference I gave below (which you no doubt didn't bother to look at) lists attacks against schoolchildren WITHOUT firearms which actually took place in a country with strict gun control. These events prove the plausibility of the argument that it is the human being that is the threat, not a particular object. Citing facts does not constitute a reductio ad absurdum argument. You need to work on your critical thinking skills! There is always something that can be used as a weapon. I have been trained to use a Bic pen or even a NY Times as a deadly weapon. Keeping those persons who would use violence against others off the streets is the better answer. Yes, submerge in engine oil, compress and release until no more air comes out and the force required to compress is very high. Dimitri. If the grooves are smooth and not nicked or ragged, I'd reuse them. The "banana guide" is on the lesser tension side and not subject to the greater stresses of the IP side. I have never replaced one. The EPC and the books that are available do not say whether or not the pulley must be removed first. Judging by the relative position in available pictures in the Haynes manual, the pulley must be removed first. YMMV.
Well, department of justice statistics show that number of homicides by knives is just a little less than homicides using a rifle. If you add in blunt instruments and hand/fist/feet, all those exceed the number of homicides by rifle. If we had flown back on Friday or Saturday it would have been a whole lot more. We went to Kona on the big island on the 27th of December. If I recall correctly the whole flight from Winnipeg to Calgary and then to Vancouver and then to Kona plus the return flight noted about was about $1200 each. Not bad really given the distance is something like 4000 miles each way and we hauled along enough luggage to last 2 weeks. The short hop on Hawaiian (sp?) Air from Kona on Hawaii to Honolulu on Oahu was more than $100 each if I recall. They charged us something like $15 per bag as well. You don't peen the new chain to the old. I used the new link, but not the plate, and it stayed in place just fine on the two chains I've done. Re: [MBZ] SNOW
True, but it was still a lousy performing vehicle in the snow even with some weight in the back. The Aerostar was nothing more than a small truck chassis with a minivan body on it. The center of gravity was really high as well, which made it handle poorly. Body roll was a real problem, I thought. For a work vehicle it was great. Lousy as a passenger vehicle, IMHO.
