[MBZ] OT Induction cook top

2018-02-11 Thread Max Dillon via Mercedes
Just installed, mounted in white Formica counter.

Should I run a bead of caulk around the perimeter?

Nothing in the installation guide about doing that, I was thinking the glass
needed to be floating so it could expand and contract and not break. However,
lots of food and liquid is going to get under the edge of the glass if not
sealed.

I'll bet a mount is broken on that power steering pump. Put a clutch pulley on

Turbo injectors are different, with a higher pop pressure, but a NA engine

I don't think it would hurt any if you used a turbo cam and sodium cooled

Using a 1979 or newer head with the hardened cam and followers wouldn't hurt.

Black Green Metallic. Which isn't really green.
https://www.copart.com/lot/35420277
Some spots of surface rust that I Scotchbrited away and covered with POR-15.
Black interior, decent but dirty.
I was thinking of selling it for $2500 after driving it for the winter, but
that was before I bent the hood and before I decided today that I don't like
driving it in the winter.

I knew Maytag, when it was still maytag, was having trouble with its
"neptune"  (new design) washer transmissions.  When I heard they were
going to quit building the "Dependable" washers they had made since
the 50s,  I went out and bought a set of "dependables"   The washer
has been great, but the dryer belt broke in a year or two, then the
motor on the dryer crapped out. I ground off the welds on the motor
and bodged in 2 new bearings, and it ran longer than the original, but
eventually failed again. At that point, I broke down and bought a
replacement motor, and it has been trouble free.

All the "energy efficient" washers are crap.  A traditional toploader
whirly pool/kenless is probably about as good as you can get now.

The tree of Liberty does need to be watered regularly.

I propose that all people who aspire to leadership positions or political
chicanery should be allowed to go as high as they can within ten years. At the
end of that period, they are taken out for the crowds to witness their
execution. This would make space for new ideas and deter career political
dreams. A grand Celebration for all. There should be no retirement fund for
these folks, as they will not survive politics. That saves the taxpayers, as
there would also be no need for security details keeping track of “retired”
leaders.

Well, when a set of winter tars cost near as much as the vee-hicle, and
the rubber on it is in VG condition, (and it is an "appliance" vehicle)
it makes sense to flip it and buy another, possibly one with good winter

No help to Kaleb, but I did the rear bearing on our dryer last year, and
that was pretty easy even thought it is stacked on top of our washer.

We bought a front loading Kenmore washer in the last year of the previous
century, and 18 years later it is still going strong. Kenmore is
re-branded ...? I suspect this is Maytag, made just before the Neptune

[MBZ] Michelin Latitude Tour HP

2018-02-11 Thread Mitch Haley via Mercedes
Found this review at TireRack.com from a ML320 owner:
Noticed a serious lack of traction in any snow condition. Definitely a summer
tire only.

I agree with the above wholeheartedly.
First time I had it out in the snow back in November, I tried to do a low speed
stop and the ABS kicked in when I was barely touching the pedal. Rolled right
through the stop sign.

Second time, today, in a foot of snow, it went worse in the trail that my
Saturn Ion had broken yesterday than the Ion did while making it. Stopped at
the end of the driveway and couldn't move it an inch in either direction. Two
guys pushed me out, their combined force felt about the same as the combined
effort of four Michelins with 4000lb on them.

This thing is not only scary in handling and braking compared to my Ion with
Pirelli Winter Cinturatos on it, I'm at least as likely to get the ML stuck in
deep snow, and the Ion has a lot less ground clearance and weight. I'll
probably sell it in the spring to get rid of the tires, don't want to buy a set
of 17" when the ML already has a set of high dollar tires with tons of tread
life left.

Mitch.

[MBZ] The PiTA SD

2018-02-11 Thread Buggered Benzmail via Mercedes
So I went and looked at this SD the kid was trying to sell. He had maybe 3
teeth but was a nice guy. It started right up and ran fine, sounded pretty
smooth actually. The door was bent but still opened, he had another one to put
on was a different color. Had replaced the seats except for front passenger
with same color blue leather seats, they looked half decent. 2 new tires on the
front. Front suspension work and some other steering bits he hadn’t yet
replaced. He said he bought it from the original owner a coupla years ago who
bought it new, aside from the dinged door and fading paint it seemed like it
would be an ok driver. I didn’t look at it all too closely Not that I need it
but if anyone is interested in a cheap SD it would be a reasonable deal for a
driver/beater.

That is an opportunity to teach her. What they call a "Teachable Moment."

Funny how people who love to spend OPM falter when Unk Sam wants to
excise money form them.

And it would have been hilarious if it weren't so sick, how the

Tinyurl, or another URL substitution service would do it - but they
also obscure the URL. If the person posting is diligent and
mentions the domain and explains the destination I don't mind.
However, most don't.

Some recent examples. With full URLs it's not too bad since I can
tell by the domain and extension what I'm clicking on. But when
using tinyurl, where am I about to go? Is it a craigslist post?
A youtube video? A photo? A PDF? Is it office or family safe? I
like to look before I leap.

[MBZ] More rodbender

2018-02-11 Thread Kaleb C. Striplin via Mercedes
So just confirmed I do have a part number plate riveted to the bell housing on
the passenger side. I would say I have a crate engine here. Question is, when
was it installed.

It’s got an aftermarket radio which as I suspected when pulling up the trunk
liner and wiring is all jacked up. Lord I hate that. The amp is missing also. I
guess my only alternative is to either live with the radio they is in it, or
put it back to original which is what I would prefer. I bet I would have to
pull the complete harness out of another car unless I can splice this one back
together.

I removed that shower curtain rod they had wedged between the power steering
pump. When removed the pump is causing a loud rattle. It does not really appear
to be loose but when you pull it forward the rattle stops. See video.

https://youtu.be/ngguAm61LsM

I have the title from the original owner which was signed over the a place
called Peddle, inc out of Austin tx. I looked them up and it appears to be a
dealer of some sort which talks about getting an instant cash offer. Maybe the
po wanted some quick cash and they just sent the car to copart. I don’t see how
anyone made any money on the deal though.

I have a very conservative friend who decries every dollar the government
spends, and every tax dollar he pays, yet he was the first in line when OK
offered a tax rebate for electric vehicles (bought over-grown golf cart
things for running around his 40 acres) and said "Thanks, tax-payers!".

Yes, totally.
However, the same greed is rampant among the plebes. Which of us
would turn down the alleged receipts these critters acquire? Probably
none of us, really. It takes a better man than us to walk away from a
bank account. How can we say anything about "them" since we are the
same? How can we lambast millenials since they were raised by us?
Since Good Lord is in challenge here, let's just hope for better... or
worse...

Forge china to oblivion, americans could use the cash. OTOH, china
plebes could probably use the cash and job. Hedgefunds need to be
