Re: [MBZ] Today's 400E Fun

2018-02-24 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Put the shelf battery in the car. Couldn’t tell a difference, but system
voltage is running at about 14.5 VDC, which is a good thing.

Drove it a bit now that it’s legal. If it’s in LHM I could barely tell, as it
had no problem accelerating and shifts were at the proper rpm/speed.

Still idling high and surging at no load. ASR light is on still, too.

Ran my C3 on it and got all kinds of weirdness. Communications failures, weird
faults that don’t resurface despite not clearing anything, etc. I’m wondering
if I’ve got something going on in the diagnostic connector, as the C3 worked
fine on the R129 and W210 wagon, so I know it’s not goofy. There have been
reports by other 400E and 500E owners about issues with corrosion in the
diagnostic connector and all sorts of havoc it can wreak.

Got the O2 sensor replaced. Wow, was that a pig. Thank goodness for three
days of Kroil soaking….

Tomorrow I’m going to work on getting the lower body cladding back on with the
new clips I’ve got. Not sure I have enough, but more are on their way.

Nice car!

Check fuel pump relay, at flaky relay can cause hard starts and
intermittent power loss. So can a failing pump. I know, I've replaced
both of them in the TE.

[MBZ] early v. later R107 console carpet

2018-02-24 Thread clay monroe via Mercedes
I am trying to rebuild the center console on Frosch. I had the original and
one I pulled from an SLC in factory green with carpet. Both had been butchered
to stuff in aftermarket radios. Both also had aged plastic that would crumble
if you winked at it. To be able to fit the Becker back in, I had to get one of
the more modern consoles that require add on carpet panels.

I am using a template drawn from the new panels a buddy has. I removed my
green carpets so I could use them on the backing made off the templates. The
old school rugs are looking a bit too small. Am I imagining this? Has anybody
done this job? Green carpet is a NLA product from all the aftermarket
suppliers, as well as MB itself.

At the moment I am building up the re-enforcing structures on the back of the
panels.

You are labeled a "denier" to associate you with holocaust deniers and thus to
label you as a nazi or nazi sympathizer. When this type of verbiage is used in
lieu of an argument based on facts and logic, you can be sure that the user
doesn't believe that facts and logic will carry their case.

That's what turns a discussion about current events into an exercise of (the

Nice!If the flipper is a "Mercedes technician" why didn't he put in
the new antenna? that is a very easy job. Maybe 15 minutes.

This car would be a great candidate to put in an OM60x Diesel, then you
could nearly double the MPG.

The ONE solution I have not heard from the "ex-spurts" is the obvious,
and one of the best. Disband the fed Dept of ed., disband the state
Dept of Ed., Disband the "consolidated" skool districts with their
bloated administrations and superintendents, tear down the mega skools,
return control to the counties and parents, and open small neighborhood
skools. People got FAR better education at the one or two, or even 4
room schools that what is gained at the mega skool. There can still be
"Acadamies" between the one room school and the university for the
"expensive" subjects, like sciences and Industrial Arts. Most of the
"academy" needs can be picked up the the community colleges, who already
have the science and trade school facilities.

My grandmother went to the Denmark Academy after 8th grade in a one room
school. She could run circles around most of todays kolledge grads.

[MBZ] Today's 400E Fun

2018-02-24 Thread Dan Penoff via Mercedes
Started out adjusting the trunk snubbers I put on the other night so you don’t
have to slam the trunk lid to get it to latch. Works nice now.

Adjusted the throttle linkage per spec to make sure all of that was in order.

Put a new mast on the antenna, although I’m a bit befuddled about the antenna.
As long as it’s hooked up to the radio, it’s up regardless of what the radio is
doing or if the key or radio is on or not. The only thing that makes it
retract is if you disconnect it at the radio, not the antenna. Weird. If
anyone has any insight into what this might be, I’m all ears.

Ran a scan with the HHT emulator in the C3 and found the same codes, nothing
new. Noticed something that might be important, however. After running
several tests I started to lose connectivity with the various modules. I
checked battery voltage and it was below 12V. Hmm. The battery that’s in the
car has full cells, but it’s marked as a “second” with no other identifying
markings. No manufacturer, date, nothing.

I keep a spare Group 49 MB battery on the tender at all times, so I took it off
the tender and put the charger to it. Within a couple of minutes it was above
14V. I’m going to drop it in later today and see what happens. This could be
interesting, as so many things in these cars can go haywire with low voltage.
If the battery is kaput it could be dragging the alternator down as well.

Got the @#$% O2 sensor out. Guess three days of Kroil soaking did the job.
That and a ratchet with a three foot cheater bar on it. I dropped the exhaust
as far as I could by pulling all of the “O” rubbers off and let it sit on a
jackstand so it wouldn’t stress the pipes upstream. That gave me a lot more
clearance to get at the sensor, not to mention I had a six point socket that I
could get on it with enough clearance to get a ratchet on.

Break time now and after I’m done I’ll go out and put the new O2 sensor in and
drop in the spare battery.

Wouldn’t it be a hoot if the only problem the car had was a bum battery? I
would be pleased.

"Could the tragedy have been prevented?"Uh, yes The FiBi was
warned repeatedly, but was much more interested in covering their own
asses related to the multiple felonies the high ups of the FiBIs, the
DOJ, CCF, CCFF and DNC committed before and after the 2016 election.
Then there was the totally incompetent Shire Riff of Broward County, and
his incompetent "Deputies" who sat on their A$$e$ and did nothing while
at the skool. Then there is the skool system, who could have done
more. Worst of all are the parents who did not demand the skool be
secured.

Ronald Reagan said it well: "Gobermnt is not the solution [to
problems] Goobermnt IS the problem!" Goobers working for the goobermnt
are always in CYA mode. They could care less about what they were
hired to do. The 4 deputies at the skool are a case in point. Nothing
happenned until the police from the adjoining town arrived, and by then
the doofus was gone, and sitting at McDonalds, while the depities were
busy sitting outside watching the pimples grow on their butts.

I will call doctors and PAs.We all take calculated risks. I am
just pointing out that your chances of getting killed by a medico are
almost 1000 times higher than that of being killed by a rifle of any
kind. In the insurance industry, a 1000 times less likely event is
almost unheard of. (Huge difference) Our chances of being killed in
a car are in the neighborhood of 100 times greater than that of being
killed by a rifle. and the chances of being killed by an "A R 1
5 " are significantly less than that of being killed by a generic
rifle.

I will also stand tor your right to keep and bear arms as established
by the Second amendment as a means to prevent tyrants from staying in
power. I have not taken an oath to protect and defend the
Constitution, as every congresscritter has, but I am more willing than
the great majority of that knacker lot to stand up and defend the
Constitution. For those who elect not to have a defensive weapon,
there are friends and neighbors who will. Many of them you would
never suspect.

Remember, if there are no guns, another weapon will be used. Bombs,
cars, trucks, airplanes all have been used as weapons. The weapon of
choice for the ira, the PLA, and other towelheads is usually a bomb.
If a bomb is not available, they will use a car or a truck or an
airplane.

All right kids, let’s either stop or reign it in. Discussing current events as
we’ve been doing (nicely) is just fine, however, when politics enter the fray
it’s time to shut it down.

Please play nicely as you had been or put a sock on it.

Thank you.

Parkland Denials

All the standard words have been said and repeated across the media.
Politicians have all weighed in as well. But what is the truth about the
slayings in Parkland, Florida? Could the tragedy have been prevented and
can future attempts be stopped? Tune in for a conversation you won't hear

Re: [MBZ] Ban the cars

2018-02-24 Thread Curley McLain via Mercedes
I will call doctors and PAs.We all take calculated risks. I am just
pointing out that your chances of getting killed by a medico are almost
1000 times higher than that of being killed by a rifle of any kind. In
the insurance industry, a 1000 times less likely event is almost unheard
of. (Huge difference) Our chances of being killed in a car are in the
neighborhood of 100 times greater than that of being killed by a rifle.
and the chances of being killed by an "A R 15 " are
significantly less than that of being killed by a generic rifle.

I will also stand tor your right to keep and bear arms as established by
the Second amendment as a means to prevent tyrants from staying in
power. I have not taken an oath to protect and defend the
Constitution, as every congresscritter has, but I am more willing than
the great majority of that knacker lot to stand up and defend the
Constitution. For those who elect not to have a defensive weapon,
there are friends and neighbors who will. Many of them you would never
suspect.

Remember, if there are no guns, another weapon will be used. Bombs,
cars, trucks, airplanes all have been used as weapons. The weapon of
choice for the ira, the PLA, and other towelheads is usually a bomb.
If a bomb is not available, they will use a car or a truck or an airplane.

Curley, etal,

If you read the study details online, the 250,000 is not an absolute
number but rather an "extrapolated" number. And those numbers are much
like polls and statistics. The medical field does have problems. The
AMA does not police bad doctors. The state licensing boards don't
police bad nurses and other professionals. And now we have PAs and
other "less than full doctors" treating patients as though they know
and have been trained as much as a full doctor. You can "ban doctors",
but the next time you are seriously sick, "who you gonna' call".

Just another opinion...and you know what opinions are like, right?
